  1. this shouldn't sound unusual on Home Stereo Equipment With Online Music Purchasing · · Score: 4, Insightful

I guess this is what we are going to in the near future, all of our appliances will have some sort of computer inside them, a computer that's capable of doing what the appliance needs.
So later we may read a /. story about a refrigerator that allows you to buy groceries online, it's just a matter of time.

  2. my case on Patching Paranoia - How Fast Do You Patch? · · Score: 2, Informative

I have 6 machines at home to administrate, all are connected to the same LAN, 4 are RedHat Linux, and the rest are Windows 2K/XP, I have no problem for the RedHat boxes, as up2date automatically detects new updates and notifies me, so I download and patch, and as you know, no need for reboots, one of the reasons I love Linux.
As for the 2 Windows machines, I try to apply critical updates as soon as possible, I download them off MS Download Center so I reinstall them in case of a format.

What I've found the most interesting after reading the article is MP3 support, both of Nokia's Symbian OS based phones (3650, 7650) don't have it, and it's even more cool to be able to use MP3's as ringtones.

  7. sounds cool ... on Warp Pipe Project Ramps Up For Mario Kart · · Score: 1

when I first read about Warp Pipe Project a couple of months back, I wasn't interested that much, cuz most of the GameCube games were only playable over the Internet, now with Mario Kart and several other titles, this project has sure become something interesting for Linux geeks who have a GameCube.
I just hope that Nintendo doesn't go after the team, using their programs requires a GameCube and a copy of the game, but who knows how big companies react to such projects.

  8. forcing patches? on Bill Gates: Windows Patched Faster than Linux · · Score: 1
... including plans to force users to patch automatically...

Most Windows admins know that patches should be installed only when they are really needed, because M$ has a bad history of releasing patches that break systems instead of fixing them, Windows XP SP 1 is an example.
This doesn't sound good to me, unless they are willing to test their patches extensively before forcing users to install them.

They are charging $19.95 per year.

Bluetooth was named after a Viking who was a Danish King, his name was Harald Blatand. Weird huh?

  11. I think it works on Epic to Sponsor Unreal University · · Score: 3, Insightful

UT2K3 was released last year, I got a copy back then, the game was fun to play for a while, then it became a bit boring, so I started to look for mods, and I found some interesting mods, but none kept me playing for a long time.
Later, when Epic started to promote the UT2K3 engine for mods (Something Unreal contest, releasing the engine for free ...) I noticed a increased number of mods, I also noticed that the quality got higher, actually, UT2K3 is back to life for me now, one of my favorite mods is FaceOff UT2003, it has nothing to do with UT2K3 fancy SiFi setting, it's a real world combat game, something like TacOps or CS.
Another great mod is Deathball (created by TeamVortex who made the greatest UT mod ever, Operation Napali), this mod improves UT2K3's Bombing Run mode.
So I guess that Epic's new strategy along with the fact that UT2K3 is pretty new (not like the aged HL engine) makes UT2K3 a heaven for modders.

I read the article and I don't get it, how/why did all Australian spammers manage to send spam over the Australian network at the same time? Was there only one source for it, or many spammers did it simultaniously?

As for computer viruses, there haven't been any viruses lately.

And the article doesn't say anything about the reason, although ISPs can easily track down those spammers :/

I used to have a GameBoy when it was released several years back, it was lots of fun to play Tetris, a Mario game (don't actually remember its name), and some other games.
Right now, I just prefer my laptop, it's true that it's huge when compared with protable consoles, but on the other hand, I always have it anyway, so I don't need to carry anything else arround, and it supports the same games I get for the PC, with all their features (multiplayer, save/load PC saved games ...)
Bottom line: after getting a laptop, I'm not interested in portable consoles anymore.
