And see the public areas crammed full of cameras monitoring the activities of its subjects - all in the name of crime prevention. It's in name only since England is now the crime capital of Western Europe. Of course, their despot government will use crime as an excuse to further erode what few liberties British Subjects enjoy.
This doesn't just apply to the Patent Office. Application fees are only supposed to cover the cost of processing the application. If the number of applications increases significantly, more money is available to increase the workforce. If applications decreases, the workforce is reduced. At least this is the theory. In practice, Congress sees money and wants to spend it. Furthermore, government departments rarely, if ever, reduce their size.
This results in two possible cases, neither good.
A department in desperate need of expanding has it's revenue siphoned off and is unable to properly do its job.
A department becomes bloated when it is needed, but does not reduce itself when it's services are no longer relevant. Ever hear of the Rural Electrification Administration?
Fixing this problem would require an act of Congress - which would really require an act of god since they aren't about to cut off their money machines or favourite pork-barrel projects.
Wrong. The Constitution does not grant free speech. It is considered an inherent right and can not be revoked. The Constitution merely enforces that the government can not interfere with your free speech.
You couldn't be more wrong. To some people, the simple statement "god does not exist" is highly offensive. Who decides? When you allow the government to censor, the government will do it to server its own purpose, regardless of the original intent. For ANY law, not just speech/press laws, always ask the questiong, "How can this be abused?", because it will be abused.
Passworded, of course, because I don't want strangers on my realm. It's just for me and my friends.
There are hints of a remote admin utility in the works. Specifically, one of the configuration options is for a remote admin password. Unfortunately, no hints on when this tool will be available. Since my server is headless, I am using "screens" to be able to reconnect to the NWN server interactive mode at will. This solves the problem of my client box not running 24/7 like the server. My wife hates my client box, big ass volcano 7 fan which is rather noisy and right next to our bed. The server is nice and quiet and tucked away in a closet.
Only one major problem really remains. My router, smc 7004abr, doesn't have a good way to redirect a large block of ports. I tried using its "special application" port settings, but that didn't seem to work. Forwarding by specific ports is very limited on the number it can handle.
like the US - ie we go in when we think we're right and apply our cultural values
You mean cultural values like killing people over religion is a bad thing? Yeah, we must be pretty fucking evil because we insist on enforcing that horrid cultural value.
I don't care what culture or religion is involved. Some things are evil period.
the UN is a little busy right now trying to stop people from killing each other
You live in a fantasy world. The U.N. has never tried to stop anyone from killing anyone. Can you say "Somolia". How about "Bosnia". There are lots of other examples. Trying reading a little more than the N.Y. Times and other world ignorant newspapers.
Yeah, it's off topic. Mod me down. I'm at the kharma cap anyway.
Take a look at InstallAnywhere at ZeroG. This is a java based install engine that runs on any platform that supports java. I've used version 4.x professionally and like it, though it does have a few problems (doesn't everything?). Version 5.0 was just released but I haven't taken a look at it yet. Hopefully, they listened to the suggestions I sent to them and incorporated them into this version.
The installer had both a graphic and console interface. My major complaint was regarding the console interface. You basically had to write all you steps twice, once for the GUI and once for the console. This was unnecessary work and error prone.
A better analogy would be to put up a sign saying "Come on in, premises protected by security device", but not mentioning if that they step off the walkway onto the lawn they will be hosed down by a flamethrower.
Sales have been hurt largely by a surge in piracy, which the National Federation of the Phonographic Industry estimates has cost the music business $4.2 billion in lost revenue last year.
The article makes this ridiculous statement without offering any kind of proof. We may know this is a lie, but the typical reader of the article may not know.
The article also quotes a record store owner whining about how they can't compete with the used CD stores on price with new CD's costing as much as $18 and used CD's having the same sound quality as new ones.
No shit. We've been saying CD's have been priced too high all along. Message to recored industry, "When the competition beats you on price and matches you on quality, the obvious solution is to lower your prices. This is true in all industries." BTW, I was referring to to digital quality, not music quality. I can hardly stand most of the shit they try to pass off as music these days (am I getting old?).
The problem is compounded by the governments refusal to accept the scientificaly proven details of the disease. Because of this, treatment and education has been severely hampered. In addition, the price of the drugs for treatment (I know it's not a cure) cost several times the average annual income for a single month's supply.
Even if it's impossible to cure those who are infected (which will be the case as long as some genetic cure, a'la Star Trek, is not found), it's vital to reduce the rate of infection. This isn't happening (because of ignorance and government stupidity). So the future of Africa, not just South Africa, is massive depopulation of the continent. This is beyond sad.
For starters, I bought Warcraft 1 and 2 (and Starcraft). The first one was ok, the second one was more of the same and bored me. More importantly, I play Diablo 2 on a bnetd server because battle.net sucks big time. Too many cheaters and scammers, and too much lag. I paid for Diablo 2 so I am not a software pirate. Being called one is an insult. Max Schaefer of Blizzard said anyone who plays on a bnetd server is a pirate. I demanded an apology and he denied making the statement (this was on irc). The majority of people in the chatroom sided with me (agreeing that Max did in fact call me a pirate in a roundabout fashion).
Because NWN will be natively supported on Linux and because they are making it possible to host your own server, they get my money (already preordered the game).
Yes, it sucks that the Linux support will be delayed. Shit happens. 90% of client machines are Windows based. If you had a deadline fast approaching, which OS would you give priority? The OS that 90% of your customers use or the other one? Answer this question as the department manager, not as a Linux geek. Don't forget your bonus is based on company revenue.
So next week, (oh, please! oh, please! oh, please!), I will play NWN on my Windows partition and look forward to the Linux release (both client and server).
I was quoted in the document as a "programming expert". Er, not exactly. My specialty is installation programs and configuration management. Yes, I code, but in the open source world, I'm not an important contributor. Also, in my email exchange with Mr. Brown, I pointed out that I was not an expert in the GPL, yet he specifically cites me about aspects of the GPL. That particular portion was quite possible my least favorite of everything I wrote because I neglected to mention you only need to publicly release your own source code if you publicly release the binaries. This is a glaring omission and I must apologize to the Open Source community for my own stupidity.
I guess I should consider myself lucky.

Damn annoying, though.

BTW, The Madonna was a crack whore.
Some of those so-called "human beings" need killing.
There are some real evil fuckers out there, and the world would be a whole lot better without them.
hehe, just yesterday my wife asked me what web authoring program I used. I said, "vi". She said, "vee what?"
Of course, most of my web pages look like shit, but I don't really care.
We need it on the Xbox to make that microsoft junk useful.
What idiots moderated this? Here's what it got so far:
Moderation Totals: Offtopic=1, Flamebait=1, Troll=2, Redundant=1, Insightful=4, Overrated=1, Underrated=1,
For a final score of 1.
If I were a moderator at the moment, I would give him a point as insightful.

Correction, it was "The President's Analyst". Same actor, though.
Or was it "Our Man Flint". One of those movies.
I can't stand most of these people online! Why, in gawds name would I want to meet them in person?

If they gave a damn about you, why didn't they pay you more before? Will you need to get a new job offer every time you want a raise?
I just received a registered email from the Elders outlining my punishment:
1. 10 strikes from a cane.
2. For one year, must play quake starting out with a 1 frag penalty.
3. Must program with emacs.
I feel the emacs requirement excessive.
They didn't misrepresent me. The problem is I left out an important aspect regarding the GPL.

Just put a huge supply of beer outside the city. The people will leave voluntarily and get too drunk to find their way back for several hours.
