  8. exactly on Tech Companies Ask U.S. to Regulate Cyber Security · · Score: -1

It seems that this effort is a tactical nuke directed at open source. Why is it that companies and governments seem hellbent on regulating or removing the ability of people to build and develop their own projects? Power, plain and simple. If they allow people to expand their horizions and learn new things and do things in new ways, then these entities lose their power. The government and the monopolies are drunk on their own power and are ready to off anyone who's here to kill their buzz. Hearing a politician say they're here for my best interests both sickens me and makes me want to double over in laughter (if only it werent so serious). The best leaders are the ones who are forced into service due to circumstance because they have a vested interest to do whats right and dont have an interest in keeping themselves there any longer than necessary.

I continue to find it amusing that no one is going to comment on whether you "own" these downloaded games or not. If the hard drive eats it, do I get all my games back? What about the time it takes to download a multi-gig game? The broadband industry is gonna shit itself having to deal with that kind of bandwidth usage. These entertainment companies either need to make MAJOR investments into fiber or they need to realize that no one is gonna spend all week downloading Final Fantasy XXX. And what about the HAL-9000 servers and rainbow-bridged-mega-channeled-OC-192s that they are gonna need on THEIR end? That's a nightmare waiting to happen. Thank you, I'll spend the time and gas to go to Walmart or BestBuy.
