Personally I'd hold of until the Strawberry Cough version of the Zune comes out next month, although it's rumured to come soon in Sour Diesel and Purple Urkle during October.
Wii
CPU: 729Mhz
GPU: 243Mhz
RAM: 91Mb
Gamecube
CPU: 485Mhz
GPU: 165Mhz
RAM: 40Mb
Is anyone worried about the Wii's tech specs? I know Mhz and Mb isn't everything but this is just pitful. Yes I'm sure it will have cool games and a novel control scheme and be cheap but it's seems like they didn't try on the graphics front at all. Graphics aren't everything but I have become used to beautifully rendered worlds immersive worlds and effects and it will be hard for most consumers to purchase a 'next generation' console with visuals from the pong era.
National Geographic had an article about measuring happiness in cultures using MRI's. They found out of all the people scanned Tibetan monks were by far the happiest people in the world despite living in subpoverty conditions. Make you think those buddhist's are onto something.
Personal photos on credit cards- it's been done and works very effectively. If a criminal ever did get a hold of a photo card, he would be at least more weary of using it.
Keep in mind these chips have integrated memory controllers and northbridges unlike Pentium-m's. Northbridges alone use about 5W of power so this could be subtracted from their consumption for a more accurate comparision of the two.
Gold is already extracted from chips in some places. Actually most modern electronics have more gold per volume then some of the richest ores. The other metals though, silicon and such probaly aren't worth the effort to resale
Setting a prize for a space flight mission or anything else that could endanger human lives is unlikely. I guessing by when they say technology they meana prize for designing a valve or nozzle, a software app, new composite etc... Nasa puts out the specs on what they need and whoever fills their requirements first wins the prize. I think its an excellent idea and a great way to save money.
TDK Armor Plated DVD-R's with a scratch resistant coating have beeon out for awhile now. A bit pricey at over $2 a disc. But I can see them being worthwhile for important data. Review availble here:

seriously, this things is gonna draw way too much juice. 333mhz processors, huge screen, optical drive, etc... No matter how good the systems specs are, if battery life doesn't cut it, its going to be smoke by gameboy.
On of those new lithium cordless dremels with a standard cutting wheel would probaly get through pretty quick. Just a few minutes alone with it would be all you need.
Does anyone think the flashlight is a little too harsh? It illumnates such a narrow angle and shoot out like a laserbeam at distances. In dark corners I have to scan the whole area just to see if anything is ther. I find myself using the muzzleflash of my weapon manytimes to get a clear view. How about a constant muzzleflash mod?
My samsung e715 sees to only have the 16 color oled display, not 256k like the site says. Besides that, an interesting thing I did notice was that the digital clock on the external display is always illuminated andafter a few months of use it's already dimmer then less used graphic diplay under it. Eviendence of blue oled life problems? maybe.
Incorporating pulse oximeters (those little things with the red light they put on you fingers while in the hospital) could make it harder to use Jell-o fingers. They verify it is a real finger by sensing blood oxygen and pulse and then the scanner would verify the identity. They are also cheap and realiable
Just a thought.
This is ridiculously impractical and needlessly difficult. I see no evidence that this guy actually did the mod. Just a pic of a big computer in the back of his van.
-comic book guy voice "worst post ever"
The Wright bros. used wing warping to control roll (seen in your article), not increase wing efficiency as the posted article explains. So yes it is "new stuff"
I really think that the prices are a little excessive here, is the production cost of projector bulbs that much greater? or in this another inkjet scenario?
I wish someone could come up with a projector mod the allows the use cheaper (but capable) bulbs refocused into the projector
Wouldn't the liquid soaked in the kevlar eventually pool? Even if it were a thick gel or paste, which I'm not sure if they could be considered as liquids, settling is sure to cause a problem. (think of silly putty sculptures and how they sag and flatten over time) It just seems to be getting this stuff evenly distributed over the entire area of the vest would be a difficult task.
The surface isn't as dusty as they originally thought right? If dust is the limiting factor on Spirits battery life since it eventually blocks out it's solar panels. Dust will now accumulate at a much slower rate and thereby give Spirit a much longer life.
We might have a good year of roving possible. Think of how much we could explore!
It looks pretty bad to me. How many of you would be proud to put that on your desk. It's just a cry for attention
Too bad case modding today has become a competition for the most outrageous cases rather than great simple design. I wish the community lean towards innovative cases designs that better the computing expirence and have simple but aesthetic appearances.

Soft Aerogel jacket- http://www.i4u.com/article803.html I've seen others too, I belive to be standard issue for antartica crews now.
