    Actaully in california once the transaction thru your CC has gone thru they are legally bound to honor the contract. You as the card holder and Visa reserve the right to cancel a completed transaction. There is no way BestBuy COULD have canceled or altered a signed transaction and have it legally binding.

    It was a huge steaming pile of crap for several releases, but they kept throwing money at programmers, buying up competitors, and generally forcing it in places it did not fit. Well it is the de-facto standard now and quite nice. Whether this was the strategy M$ intended or not, it is the road they generally take. Give them another year for game developers to catch on and I see a real competion. That said I am NOT buying a console, that can't interface into my PC system, period.

    As to you "PC gamers"...My PC system BLOWS away any console system for overall gaming experience, no contest, plus it has the added value of being useful for a mryiad of other tasks, and UPGRADEABLE to boot :)

    With the big pressure to move government services to the web, soon net access, just like phone access will be a necesity. We (the taxpayers) already subsidize basic phone service for everyone, for emergency services access, 911 etc.
    When your national ID is your US/M$ passport, you'll have to have net access.

    California is a single party consent state. Meaning only one party of a conversation, either private or public needs to know about a recording.
    I use the x10 camera at the front door all the time. Caught the neighbors' 'lil darling' heisting my mail. Sad part was all I could think was glad they did not have this shit when I was a kid or I'd prolly be in prison now.

    .net passport thru work is the ONLY email account that has any validity and it refers to my work info ONLY. I figure the LARGE corporation I work for has lawyers aplenty on the payroll who have nothing better than to respond to the spam that I might get. I also use active filters and rules to sort my email. I could not honestly tell you how many emails go thu my in-box. Between 35 and 40 a day survive the filtering and 50% of those are still spam.

    This "feature" is not dead, it will just be integrated into the .Net framework. M$ NEVER gives up an idea, just shelves it for rebranding/repackaging.

    I got no problem with them instituting a monthly cap, but my contract says UNLIMITED, ALWAYS ON usage. How does that jive with, you are using too much ? Like an all you can eat salad bar instituting a per plate charge.

    the GURU ISP, make the user take a test if they want to open an account. If they cannot answer some reasonable networking questions, tell them thanks and refer them to another ISP.

    errr he is from Burbank..the home of half the bloody movie/TV studios in existence. The amount payed to him is minor considering he does represent their district. I am from California and would happily see this guy sweeping streets but can't find fault with him accepting money from his home district. Now the "REAL" Senator from Disney, that goofy guy from Carolina, should NOT be deriving money from the movie industry at such a rate but, he has things to offer them and is in FACT being bought...

    C'mon the only thing 'frowned' upon by a corporate world is getting caught, or failing to make a profit. Frowning on an act would indicate some remedial conscience or morals, and as we see everyday corporations have NONE. That is not to say the individuals that make up those corps are bad but if everyone 'just follows orders', Lemmings Inc. will be as dirty as they come.

    this is shipped units, not sales. There is no mention of the return rate. I'd be interested in seeing what NPD cosnidered the most selling game of all time as their figures come from retail sales, not manufacturer shipping invoices.

    apple had all kinds of choice in this they just chose a BAD one...imagine that Apple treading on customer/support toe's....They could have drafted an agreement with the kids parents, they could have gone the emancipated minor route and demonstrated that in THIS field, THIS minor was knowlegable and culpable. What they chose was to forgoe common sense and be directed by the written letter of the law not the spirit, and once again show that Apple actually has nearly the same lack of respect/regard for their customers that M$ has shown. Apple just has a better PR firm.

    I live near several refineries..The EBS system has been invoked to good use on 3 occasions that I can remeber due to refinery fire, chemical spill, and a vapor release from some chemical plant as well. The alarms went off and the people in the AREA were alerted to go to radio or TV for more info..worked well and as designed. To my knowledge the EBS was never designed for National emergencies, irregardless of what the politicos spouted.

    numerous states have good samaritan laws which would find you in jail for not calling emergency services etc...of course you don't go give first aid if you are not qualified but even a Texan can dial 911, most of the time that is... (j/k) :)

    LOL I work in a multi platform environment and spend all my time rebuilding Solaris stations because IT folks are too stupid to actually learn how to use a computer. Re-imaging an M$ NT or Win2K is easy....recovering FS's because Joe Engineer is too stupid to shut his machine down gets really old..... M$ OS is junk but I'd rather the end user had it than a *Nix system unless they were capable of maintaining it themselves. God please someone tell me that it is better out there...
