Microsoft doesn't have enough success to bank on backwards compatibility.
Nor could they do it feasibly if they wanted to. Going to ATI for the graphics chipset, they'd have to make it compatible with all of the NVidia chipset games. And I'm not sure if I'm correct about this one or not, but weren't they going to IBM for a PowerPC processor instead of an x86 Intel processor? That'd be extremely hard to handle backward compatibility with good performance.
FFXI has had moogles giving out fireworks and trees decorated in towns ever since the patch on the 18th. They also have some performing NPCs breathing fire and juggling knives, but I'm not sure if that's holiday related.
Believe me, I tried. But this game was out long before I had a broadband connection, so it was painful to download. And even if I could stand the downloads, I could rarely find the songs. I couldn't find them on Dalnet or Undernet on IRC. And P2P didn't have them either. I did actually find 2 or 3 on mp3.lycos.com
Another skateboarding game with a great soundtrack was Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. It had mostly old school rap (Run DMC, EPMD, Gang-starr, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Sugarhill Gang, etc.) and a few old techno tracks. I couldn't find a separate soundtrack to it, so I ran the audio cables to an RCA-in/Stereo-out Y-cable to my microphone slot on my PC and recorded them all to mp3s. Ghetto, yes. Worth it, definitely.
I agree that original soundtracks work better. But I'm gonna go back one in the series to GTA2. Who could forget the great songs like "Taxi Drivers Must Die" and everything on the chat stations. Although I liked the chat on GTA3 much better. Great times..
I agree. VI was awesome. VII was okay. VIII was crap. I was unbelievably hard and I'm still trying to beat it. IX reminded me of VII, but with better characters. X was an interactive movie. And I'm installing XI as we speak.
WWE: Smackdown winning the best fighting game?! Have those people ever heard of Soul Calibur 2? I know its not everyone's cup of tea, but it is surely preferred by more people than own Smackdown. I'm assuming the WWE, since they are the #1 program on SpikeTV, padded the wallets of the network for that decision.
Wait until February, and you can pop Final Fantasy into your Gamecube (if you have one). Crystal Chronicles looks hot... and it's a multiplayer game, so you can show your friends the light.
But its Windows. So most people who install it, or, in reality, most people who buy computers with Windows preinstalled, have the standard Windows directories used. And if it isn't in a certain folder in the Windows base directory, Windows can't find it anyway. So it's just a matter of finding the base directory, and grabbing it from there.
I would also consider all Philadelphia sports fans hooligans. They throw stuff at just about every team. And hard stuff... like rocks. No wimpy beer cups and hot dogs there.
The original thought was that the Army did not want user-created levels/weapons/characters to be associated with the Army's game. They were afraid people would create inappropriate scenarios like school terrorism and the such which the Army does not deal with.
That was the original idea, though. And back a while ago they also said we'd never get pistols in game, but we have them now. So you never really know.
And I believe they said they won't release a Devkit during the life of the game. So maybe they'll release one once the team stops working on it, thus extending the life cycle of it.
It could be because he/she liked Deus Ex, but didn't care to read every story and interview with the people that made it. Therefore, this person can still enjoy Deus Ex without knowing who Warren Spector is.
Everything after IV was right out? I thought VI had the best story of them all. My order of liking is VI,IX,V (maybe.. whatever FF2 in America was),VII,I,X,VIII. I thought X had a really good story, but very little actual game play between the movies.
I was actually surprised when I read a review from The Rundown with the wrestler the Rock, and the reviewer (Ebert, I think) gave it like 2 1/2 to 3 stars. He said it wasn't a good movie, but it was solidly entertaining and kept him interested.

And what kind of video game news would you like? The announcement of new homebrew Commodore 64 games?
Don't try to tell me that it's only GC and XBox, because they make more PS2 announcements than anything else.
PD0 is vaporware. There has been nothing from that game except for artist renderings. Not even information or occasional screens.
Too bad they announced that for 2005. Keep it in mind for next year.
Or maybe for 2006, because you know they won't be done in 2005, either.

I believe you overlooked the classic Blizzard game, Rock'n'Roll Racing. Great racing game, and great heavy metal soundtrack.

I think what he (or she) meant was it was released shortly after the beta, but without fixing all of the bugs found in the beta.

I must be paying $2.20 because I have two phones on my plan, then.
..is that Sprint is charging me $2.20/month for it.

But everyone knows Speed Buggy is a ripoff of Jabberjaw which is a ripoff of Scooby Doo.

Charging a reasonable price and trusting people to be honest?!
Where has that ever gotten anyone?
Am I the only one who interpreted "no branching path system in place" as "extremely linear gameplay with one ending".
The way I see it, a branching path system involves different results to your actions... something I don't recall any FF game having.
It just seems to me that they're trying to pretty up the same old game using new-fangled wording.
I don't remember the character art for FFVII, but it could possibly be that Sephiroth was originally drawn to look like a deranged female supermodel.
After all, look at all of the art from FFVI. Kefka (the most evil enemy of all) looked like a deranged, annorexic clown.
