What happens when you lose your cell phone. It happens often enough but when that's all that's gone it's not too bad. If it's your phone, credit card, ID, etc. that'a a hugh problem.
Bring on the $$$. I've heard this before and I believe that the reasoning behind it is that as a child a tall person is looked up to and learns the social and leadership skills that bring better, higher paying, jobs later in life.
All these reports on higher speed processors and 3D laptops are nice and the SCO reports sometimes amuzing but this is great. Both using new technology and cutting big company profits out of consumer bills is never bad news to me. I would personally like to see more of this possitive usage of technologies that directly benifits me. Who wouldn't?
now Nokia can't use explosions as an excuse to sell more of their parts. And they thought putting 'prizes' in some of the phones would help them sell more.
A little competition couldn't hurt. In almost all cases competition helps the consumer (ME). Even if prices don't fall and quality doesn't exactly improve (believe me, there's room) it could provide for some more options.
A server and a desktop are two very different things as you all know (or should). A server could be exploited by a password insecurity and much damage done, but the server would need to be specifically targeted. A desktop on the other hand is not as valuable individually and so less effort is going to go into 'hacking' it. A desktop is also going to have less to defend it and be more vulnerable to these hacks. Open source allows servers (and desktops) to be patched hours after a major problem is found. Proprietary may take days to fix. A desktop that gets hacked is not a serious problem. A server is. So use an open source OS for a serve AND patch it regularly AND use algorythmic passwords (the server doen't need to be accessed by more than the admins and they can remember an algorythm). Desktops can continue to be dominated by windows but if you want to see safe servers they need to implement these security features.
" If a P2P application is found then an e-mail is sent to the user, a message is popped up on their screen, and their internet connection is disconnected."
So, send and email and then disconnect them to make sure that they can't read it?
A switch from linux to ms would be something to complain about (wastefule, monopoly, insecure, etc.) but this? And anyways, the government by nature (another topic for another time) is wasteful and this, if anything, is not the kind of waste to be complained about.
My friend and I were working on the idea of a gaming optomized OS (one that ran only one game so as to optomize hardware usage) but I looks like we were too slow. It's good as a gamer to see it though.
The schools will force you to use more than just the internet as a source of information in any large project. Can't say that I like it but it's definately good for me. If library texts were available in pdf that would be nice.

just when you think you've got things figured out and under control, bang, a new changlange, each one harder than the last, until ultimate boss(M$).
thats a good acomplishment from a good group

you old farts.

It would kick my ass. But that's not saying much.

figure that out ourselves? Come on, who didn't think that vb.net and XP are fads/fashion/etc. Things that fckevd up can't be here to stay.

uses a system to request features. I haven't looked into it in detail but it might be a good place to start.
now I don't have to go through dell for my next computer purchase, this is exactly what I've been looking for
Instead of buying more MS stuff people well watch less of those shows.

I'm a robot, that stuff is nothing. Try calculating the weather 2 centrys in advance.
should have got my giant shotgun out to try and shoot it. Next time.
And I was planning on hacking the IRS before right before April rolled around. Now what am I going to do, pay my taxes?!
Actually they already owe (not own, like many people think) me.
to go with my computer-in-an-overcoat. 10-20 years and maybe we'll all wear our entire business. Just put on your glasses and start working.
the extra fee isn't that bad and the idea behind it should be a nice touch for preserving nature.

$300,000,000 worth of computers? >DROOL
my initials. Dortunately most people I know won't confuse my TSL with their TSL.
