ALL RELIGIOUS OBJECTIONS TO GAY MARRIAGE ARE INVALID
This is untrue. Laviticus 18 specifically states that "a man shall not lie with another man, as he lies with a woman". (This can be taken for both genders)
This WM music service was mentioned about a month ago I guess Here on/. (I'm too lazy to get the link) And despite the lower cost, I still asked for gift certificates to the iTunes store instead. Partly because yes, they invented it, and partly because I'm sick and tired of major corporations muscling out smaller (read: less net worth) companies. Maybe for once, the innovator of something can reign supreme, instead of the wolves stealing the idea and capitalizing on it because they have more resources to do it.
Here's what you need to play a song:
A Windows PC. See all system requirements.
Windows Media Player 9. Get it now for free.
Approximately 10 MB of disk space on your PC.
A connection to the Internet the first time you play a song.
If you currently have a Windows Media Player installed on your computer, you may be prompted to update certain components of the player before you can play the song. Click here for information about installing, configuring, and troubleshooting your Windows Media Player.
Who do they think we are? This is/. by God. We shall never be held by the "requirements" of simpletons!
As well, quantum tunneling becomes a major issue, but this isn't as important as the sheer limit of the architecture.
How so? I thought that since they were operating above the quantum level, that its efefct on them would be so minimal it wouldnt matter much at all? Or would absolute zero even change they way the strings (see Herefor more information on String Theory)
behave?
Technically all wars since 1928 in which America was involved have been illegal as per the Kellogg Peace treaty where it was agreed upon and signed that War will be outlawed. Show's how much that did.
Let's look at the flip side of that. The music industry is, as is almost any other business, out for profit. The money made by such groups is only given to the artist at a factional amount. The "rich and famous" are a small portion of the artist whom we are "damaging." The price of a blank CD is c..10(us) at the most; the burning, labels, cases, leaflets, et al, is probably around 4 dollars a CD produced. These are then sold to Record stores at around 10-15 dollars (US) Then, the record stores sell them to us (the consumer)at 29-21 dollars (US). The royalty charges go to the record company (i.e. Sony, Columbia, etc) not to the artist. The artist is paid by the record company in proportion to how many CD's are sold, how many concert tickets sold etc. This amount is Negligible when talking about the total amount of profit made. The real thievery is put to the consumer with massive profit margins, from such a relatively cheap commodity. Why not download half, or more, of the music you listen to? The ends, music (for the consumer) and a "loss" for the record company. The whole thing balances out. The ends, justify the means in this case. The consumer is happy, the record companies are still making money, and the world did not end.
Let's run with your point Why this human obsession with stuff from the ground? I'm more into digital rarities, like the newest game or software.
What's the difference? In a few year's we will look back at the "newest game or software" and wonder why the hell we made that. (read: It's only 3D??)Diamonds etc are a rarity, thus due to supply and demand they are assigned a large value. Software is so incredibly accessible it is given a lower value (relatively). I'll agree that 50K is ridiculous for a desk, but not everyone has a piece of the moon now do they? It's simple economics. when Supply ) Demand prices go down. its that simple
That, however, isn't what I'm saying. Basically, its this: Microsoft has a product which, albeit "good enough" it could be much better. And seeing the amount of the market share, I would like to see augmentations to their existing software, instead of making new software to get more money. I know its wishful thinking, and a bit naive, but that should be the way it works.
At the risk of being troll or falimbait; Microsoft is pissing me off. Every day I come to/. and I see some new story about how Microsoft is ripping ideas off of everyone else. Their MSN music service coming out, this news thing, their "matrix" shot at linux, its just rediculous. Perhaps if MS would come up with some actual innovation, other than new marketing techniques, they could actually have a good product. They have a good start, and given a little time with some good programmers, it could be a "secure" (as secure as anything really can be anyways) solution to many people's computer problems. As it is, more often than not it only compounds those problems. I lost faith in the "American System" long ago, and MS is only making cynics of more and more people. Why is it, that a company with as much power as they have (reguardless of whether or not you want to admit it) does all it can to belch out mediocre software? It takes money to make money, they say; and appearantly that money only spawns the want of more money. Call me prude, old-fasioned, whaever, but a company such as microsoft, with such a huge impact on the lives of many people, should at least try to put out something that is useful, and not allready available.
What you have is a lot like the way it is in my house. As a 17 year old, I basically have the cable line to my self, aside from the random E-mail check by my parents. There are no filtering or spy software that are run on any of the machines in the house. If I see something disturbing (i.e. goatse, or tubgirl etc) which, I have seen from/. trolls. I find it amazing how some parents set up stupid restrictions, only to have their kids circumvent them later. It only breeds mistrust, and a sense of entrapment. Granted, my parents don't want me to look at porn and the like, but hey, im a 17 year old male. It happens... I'm sure they know I do it, they arent stupid by all means! But, if i want to fess up, then they know I will. It is all a matter of respect. If we (as teenages) can't learn to respect those in a position of authority over us, then how are we to cope when the PHB's of tomorrow tell us we can't do something? Net-monitoring is a serious breach in respect for your children. Recpect that no parent can afford to loose.
I can only imagine the trouble this will make for a company like Steam with their new HL deal... and deal that Autodesk (creaters of Auto Cad) made with... I can't remember the name of the company. Same type of deal as steam though. There is going to be a serious firestorm over this one.
John Ashcroft states that the importation of books is in direct violation of the Partiot Act, and must be stopped immdeiately. He has allready addressed Congress on the situation, and charges on offenders are pending
This is very interesting. I've often wondered how Computers could ever top man, since they run on programs made by man, are they not? It just seems like humans couldn't make chess software that was better than a human itself. Anyone care to shed some more light on this subject?
Ok, so there is a "tracking bug" on the FTC do not call list that links back to AT&T. Well, it could be used for FTC tracking purposes, since AT&T hosts them. It possibly gets info on where they came to the site from, etc. This is all overrated.
but instead will resemble more of a kaleidoscope, thousands of streams of content, some indistinguishable as actual channels.'"
Maybe its just me, but I am more then vaguely reminded of the "TV walls" of Bradbury's Farenheit 451. It sounds like TV will turn into an amalgam of streaming video, with the sole purpose of transfixing its audience.
This may allready be the case for some cahnnels, but some people (mostly non/.ers) get their news from TV still.
This "kaleidoscope" sounds like trouble to me.
There is no redundancy or backup system. It is not even robustly made. Loose wires literally dangle out the bottom. In the fairly likely event of the software crashing, a wire coming loose, a component failing, or the batteries running low, the wheels will lock and the entire kinetic energy of the system is used to accelerate my head toward the ground.
that in a game such as Second Life, that something of this nature would happen. It is a game, that is totally openended, which lends itself to the creation of a "government". Take Golding's Lord of the flies for example. A bunch of kids set up a "system of government." this government ultimately fails, but the premise is the same. A group of people, with a common interest get together, in this case their country is a digital domain. It really is an interesting study in anthropology, if you ask me.

That's my 2 cents anyways.

Video killed the radio star, now the government killed the TV star. It's expected!

well, at least now I know that its just not God pushing the mushroom cloud button!
My life is complete He must have bought this too ;-)
*whew* thank God my chemistry days are done:)

Did anyone else read "Billy Joel" instead of Bill Joy?
It may not be the same quality as DVD, but I think this is a much better idea than the disposable DVD idea. Not nearly the amount of waste.
Sounds like fun to me!
I, for one, welcome our new bad joke overlords.

seriously guys, SCO has a legiitimate claim to the UNIX code, right? *looks around* hm.. no one here!
