I thought the progression of feature size went: 90 nm, 65 nm, 45 nm, 34 nm.
But the graphics processors seem to be using 55, and these SSDs are being reduced from 50.
I thought they had to pour gazillions into standardizing fab construction, steppers, and all the equipment. So is some plant manager stumbling in with a hangover one morning and accidentally setting the big dial for 50 or 55 or something? What's the deal here?
Criticality is a function of free neutrons: if there's not enough to sustain a reaction, it's subcritical; if it's break-even, it's critical, and if there are enough to grow the reaction it's supercritical. Contrary to the movies, a reactor that's critical is not a failure state (it's normal operation). Even "supercritical" isn't necessarily trouble (though if you stay supercritical for too long it will eventually be).
When a reactor finds fault with 'most everything you do or say, it is said to be "hypercritical".
This didn't happen in a vacuum. Someone started a digital conversion parade. Someone stepped in front of that parade with a promising patented idea, and they knew the risks. The public got snookered. The public is likely to take it out on whoever is raking in the cash.
The big news everyone seems to be missing is that everyone and their mom will be able to block ads with very little knowledge. That's dangerous to content providers and I've highlighted the part in the above text where the author talks about this. Is Mozilla entering a maelstrom that was normally between adblock/noscript and content providers?
It is the abusive advertisers, the ones who push Flash, the ones with excessive blinking, the scammers, and the control freaks who will suffer. For the most part, I don't block ads. And I generally avoid the sites with abusive advertising anyway. They generally have weak content to begin with.
I want to have that feeling that there is a company that I can blame, I need to have the feeling that there is a group of people that may benefit from my purchase, and who can be called upon to support that product.
Funny. I'm not getting that from the commercial vendors. Well... I can blame them, and they benefit from my purchase, but support? No, I'm not getting any support. And no, my Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and my Microsoft Office 2007 don't "just work". I get better support from the Linux community.
Actually some humans (and presumably, other primates) do have a 4-color system. It tends to occur more frequently (but still rarely overall) in females than males, perhaps for the same reasons that color-blindness tends to be more frequent in males. If I recall correctly the extra receptor is toward the violet end, and to these people indigo is actually a different color rather than just a shade of blue.
The way I read it is that the green cone gene is on the X chromosome. Men get one, women get two. In some women, one of the green cone genes is a bit mutant in the yellowish direction. So they get more differentiation in the red to green area, not anywhere near the violet end. One of the other cone genes is also on the X chromosome, so it is possible that there could be a woman with two normal genes and two mutant genes; that is, a pentachromat.
Pull the fuse to your radio/nav system. That should do it
They'll make it integral to the engine chips.
Can't add an after market radio; it'll disable the engine.
Can't disable the ads without disabling the engine. Sorry.
(Yes, I know the new parts are 34 nm)

I believe you mean "super critical" [/pedant]
Could be worse. I'd hate to be around when a reactor went hypercritical. :-)
So do your part to destroy a programmers will to live, deploy a VB6 app today!
What we need is a "Scary" mod.
Actually she's planning on flying overhead in a chopper and shooting it.
Oh my God! They killed Alaskan Bob! You Bastards!
Or for some senator to have their, or one of their family member's identity stolen... will be fun to see what happens.
"I don't give a damn if you are a United States Senator! Your name is on the TSA watch list, and you're not gettin' on that plane!"
Homeland Security Presidential Directive #12:
You do not talk about Homeland Security Presidential Directives.
...or something like that.
How about the "Super-Hyper-Colossal-Magnetoresistence Effect?"
I'm waiting for the Ludicrous Magnetoresistence Effect.
They developed it, they deserve to profit.
Sorry, that's just how it is.

Coffee (from dunks with liquid sugar), Root Beer, and other drinks, I'm sure, could find yourself in the same dillema.
When it comes to Root Beer, I think only Barque's (A fine product of the Coca-Cola Company) insists on adding caffeine.
It is because of considered postings such as yours that I value Slashdot for its news and analysis.
Stay eloquent, my friend.

I thought it was a major upgrade of Ubuntu Hairy Hardon (8.04). Maybe I got that wrong.

I'm having a problem observing you.
There's a whole herd of us at Fermilab. Would it be easier if the field we graze was named Higg's Field?
Uh... I authorized it. Problem?

Hey! Hey! None of that now! Stay behind the fence!
Anyone else think that said "MacBook Modded With Second Monitor Inside Lego" at first?
For all the bad behavior on Microsoft's part, since when has it ever really hurt them significantly?

So when does the bloody FAT patent expire, anyway?

SORD M223! So, there!
You get a whole bunch of false positives because of the mushroom people.
Use an infra-green filter.
Real programmers... yadda yadda yadda.
Right. Now hit that link, leave your mouse on the comic, and read the title text.
