Fewer lines of code, fewer bugs AND FEWER FEATURES. What does it matter if it's better written software, if it's not easy to use or won't do what you want it to do?
People can argue all they want - but Linux vs. OS X or Win XP for the average joe on the desktop just is NOT a reality yet. Not even close.
The iPod is killer kit. It's well built and easy to use. Who wouldn't look at a Mac after running Windows and then getting an iPod and realizing, "it doesn't have to suck! Wow I never knew that!"
No comparing the two. This is a joke at best - anything that requires IE to work sucks IMHO. AAC sounds fine for most people - if you are worried about better sound quality just buy the CD - as that WMA file isn't the Holy Grail. In fact, all this did was make me fire up iTunes and download some songs. Go Microsoft!
The AP Stylebook says that Internet should be capitalized and it's still e-mail instead of email and they still make use of 3 character state codes instead of the newer 2 character postal ones. That book is the gold standard and anyone publishing should be following it.
Why not outsource to me in West Virginia...? I work cheaper than all of them combined. There are plenty of people in the USA who will work for less - it's better than no work at all.
I think everyone has missed the bigger picture here. As OS X evolves - it gets better AND faster. I run both PCs and Macs at home and the office and I can say that with every new version of Linux and Windows, the new features have cost in terms of performance. Only OS X has repeatedly delivered speed and features. Say what you will, but Apple is just doing something right with OS X. I can't imagine being stuck in a Windows (or Linux) only world after using OS X for an extended time. Kudos to Apple. I for one am eagerly awaiting Tiger's official release.
I think people should read the articles they submit. Best Buy did NOT say they fired customers. Also, in my experience, Best Buy has been a better retailer than Wal Mart, Circuit City, Target and the like. I've received great service and pricing there and 100% satisfaction when I needed to return a dud digital camera.
20 speakers? Ever heard of wife or girlfriend? And frankly.. most audiophiles prefer a stereo setup to surround. Think of the failure of QUAD audio in the 70s and 80s. Not to mention many audio recordings are still MONO with the only stereo information being a slight level adjustment to give the illusion of being on the left or right side of the soundstage. The reason? Stereo information from stereo mics or processing is generally unnatural sounding to the human brain. Even most 5.1 audio stems from mono masters. Normal people don't want choice, they want simplicity and cheap. CD Audio has that covered.
OK, this is a killer mod. But it just makes me wonder why so many people who do a total mod make it look just like a regualar tower PC case? With all that freedom... why is this still just a rectangular box?
There are NO new audio formats that will replace CD. There are only two groups that want something other than CD Audio anyway: Audiophiles and the Recording Industry. Audiophiles want better fidelity and the industry wants DRM. 95% of consumers don't want either. As long as that is the case, I think it really will be something the market will control and not the big corporations. Add to that everyone already has a CD burner... and new audio formats are destined to failure.
There is something strange about a company who is known to have spammed Mac users, who writes AV software and then also happens to discover the first Mac virus/trojan/whatever which just happens to have been anonymously e-mailed to them. To top it off - their solution is to buy their $60 AV software.
My opinion is - they wrote it, they are blackmailing the Mac community with thier proof-of-concept code and should be shut down, not supported. They will never get a penny of my money. It's like paying someone not to beat you up... G.. that's a win win situation there...
I thought it was "for the people, by the people?" Sex and pron has been the number 1 thing on the net since the net was let upon the masses. That says something to me - like most people want it. How can they even get away with this crap? Ashcroft is a moron. I wrote a dozen letters to keep him out of office... alas to no avail. People had it coming.. they let the conservatives get what they want... a world where nothing is bad and all there is to live for is work, shopping, tv and death. No sex, no fun and no individuality inbetween. When I lived in China they called us Nazi Americans. For a communist third world country - I felt more free there. And yes, I am considering moving back... and staying forever. We'll see if Bush can steal this election first.
Isn't there a fundamental flaw in the logic here? People use search engines to find information they want, not to look at who paid the most to be listed first.
I can see where portals are struggling to make the bills, but this seems like shooting yourself in the foot to keep your toothache from hurting.
I for one am not impressed with the continued commercialization of the Internet. I hope this fad comes and goes quickly. *fingers crossed.*
Some of my favorite professors were my hardest. Don't just think becuase you give homework you'll get a bad rep. And don't think that automatically makes you a great teacher either. It simply doesn't work that way.
My anti college site is offline too - for the same reasons. The forums and content got too hot for the administration and they wanted to go to court. I did once - and won hands down - but I was still out the money. So, in the end they still win. Cause they have the tuition of thousands of students and I don't. There is no free speech in America anymore unless you are rich. Any one that tells you other wise is a liar, wrong or both.
Try a PowerBook G4. I dropped my PowerBook G4 three feet to a tile floor and it didn't phase the titanium case. No cheap plastic parts to replace on these bad boys... and it's got OS X.
This will start to make a lot more sense when someone busts a cap in these rain jacket clad mall rejects. I can hear them say, "stop, you're arrested!" Fire away... the people who make the laws are as out of touch with the community at large as is humanly possible. Someone will have to get shot dead before any sanity comes to this. Yeah, it is illegal... but some would argue for a reason and even if there is no reason, criminals shoot cops. This is a job I'd personally pass over.
That's fairly simple. It was answered with the flower shattering at the end. PVC cracks open with water frozen in it. Granted the end of this pipe is open, still as far as plastics go, PVC is fairly brittle and would likely shatter if you poured liquid nitrogen in it.
I would say that is almost certainly the answer - plastic is too brittle at that temperature. If you'll also notice, the canister the liquid nitrogen is in is metal as well.
Windows still hasn't got the full on multiuser thing down yet - issues with the registry and file system abound.
Frankly, it's not just games that require administrator access - almost any type of software has this problem. The last time I tried Open Office I could not use it for this very reason. My students had limited accounts and Open Office requires admin rights to run.
Try using Mac OS X or Linux. Someone said above that that is not really helpful - but I think it is - you can't fix broken Windows and you won't have these problems in OS X. The OS X setup for limited users is a dream - and I've yet to run into any problems with programs not running if you (as admin) have specified they are allowed to run.
Not to mention the lack of Direct X/3D on OS X. Basing the games on OpenGL means they work and no crashes. My gaming selection is smaller on the Mac - but my gaming experience on the Mac is way better than it is on my PC.
No, it's not cohesion that makes OS X better than Linux. Apple has money. It really boils down to that.
People will write open source software for fun and to learn, but ultimately, people expect to be paid for their best, hard work and the companies paying programmers are always going to be ahead of open source for that very reason.
Anyone that doesn't agree can come work for me for free - I'll work you til you drop all with a GNU style license.:^)
One of the most blatent ripoffs that has been overlooked is Cocoatech's Path Finder. It's a slick app and I wonder why Apple didn't do a better job of copying it. Aside from speed - Path Finder just seems better than the new 10.3 Finder.

You show your age. There were portable walkman type record players. I swear it.

That's just plain awesome. Dumb people make your days so entertaining.

The music industry just doesn't fucking get it do they?

Better than any gadgets I can think of.
