I can testify. My dad is a senior reporter with a local NBC affiliate, and I've clued him in to quite a few stories about our current voting machines.
His assignment editor, and more troubling, the News Director [Hi, Forrest!] have routinely ignored the story. If the story isn't about The Spiderman burglar, or some Old Lady being ripped off by a roofing company, this 'news' channel doesn't want anything to do with it.
I support friends and family computers. Most use XP, while a few are ME and finally some stalwarts still on 98 (hey, it works fine for their needs)
I do my best to recommend OS upgrades ONLY when they're necessary, and honestly, most times they are not needed.
When Windows 2000 came out, several of my friends/family wanted to switch to it, and I told them that if they switched, I could no longer support them. I don't have the time/engery to hassle with a "new" os, with "new" innovations. (I help them with XP, because I use it at times, and am at least familiar with it, and it comes on all new boxes... I have yet to sit in front of a Win2k box)
This tactic worked. you'll see in the list, above, that there are no friends or family running 2k.
I'll simply say the same thing when "longhorn" comes around (love the "mess with the bull" garbage). "I'm sorry, but if you choose to upgrade/install "longhorn", I cannot help you.
Since I get at least 2-3 calls for help a month, I know that my services are needed. Since I'm not charging money to help them, the least they can do is *help me* to help them.
Samus was *hot* for a pixelated 8-bit sprite. I would think woo would want to cast the [digital] actress from Final Fantasy Spirit Within, although she may not be aging well.
i've been waiting for this price drop! i'm going to go out tomorrow and pick one up! it'll sit right next to my PS2 which has been idle for the last 8 months due to Lack of Playing Time(tm). But at least i can say i have one!
It matters because thousands of textbooks would have to be updated. We want our children to know that there are 12 planets in this Solar System, instead of... wait. How many?...
Anyhow. We want our kids to know that the planets are: Venus, Mars, Earth, Neptune, Jupit... wait... it got messed up. Mercury, Mars, Earth, Jupit... damnit.
Do you see? It matters. I need an up to date textbook to tell me that there's a 14th planet. Or is it the 11th?
Excellent point. I read this headline, and said to self, "Well, that's it. That's the DRM they said they were going to put in."
I don't think, or at least didn't think (and without having details, there is no evidence to say this *is* the DRM release) that Froohoofer would be releasing this DRM sh*te this quickly.
3 seasons? I had no idea it has been on that long.
Star Drek: Somaprise
Seriously, though. My SO doesn't give me sh*t when I watch reruns of TNG on Spike TV. But if I even flip to Somaprise on weds, she starts nailing me with ice cubes.
Neither of the countries have "vast oil reserves", so GWB isn't directly interested in stopping a lop-sided war... however,... yeah, flamebait, i know.
China did make a token gesture. They will do for Taiwan what they did for Hong Kong.
There will be no referendum. There will be no independence. There will be only status quo, although, the ruling partyin Taiwan WILL get a nice dacha in northern province.
I would watch it again and again. it was much better than Cats.
Sci-fi always seems to do a bang-up job recreating other works. I think they did such a great job re-tooling this 25 year old clunker, that I would certainly welcome a series. Perhaps they'd run into Archer & his brood, and blast them into bits.
This is called "Trickle down economics". The Teamsters get the cash, and it trickles down to the rest of us

Am I the only reader who thinks this ask slashdot 'question' resembles a match.com profile more that a question?
probably because you're talking to one of our reps in Trinidad (yes, we have call centers in trinidad).
can it be because of the fact that domestic customer support just doesn't exist anymore? Nahhh. couldn't possibly be a reason.

give me a break. this settlement isn't getting responses, because people don't keep receipts for software for 10 bloody years.
MS gets away with it, again.
uh.. nice cameltoe. next time, please let Yori be the model, eh?
and i thought Bayer only made aspirin, but apparently they make lawn products too.
Does this mean i can start chewing grass to alleviate a headache?

I enjoyed reading this piece over on Pravda about how America faked moon landing & how Russia is just The Best!(tm)
I can see the headline on drudge now, "Terrorists Prefer Apple"
did you know that Vishnu can give 6 handjobs at once? ... oh, wait... is it 6 or 7? I can't recall. But it's VERY efficient, and HIGHLY profitable.

I do love this quote from MS website,
.NET platform delivers 25% lower development and support costs than J233/Linux"
.Net has 25% of the functionality of J2EE/Linux.
"Microsoft
but of course it does. It delivers these because
Jeezus. Do the math, folks, do the math.
Watch out for MS. they'll be wanting to see your licenses.
No wonder your job is being offshored.
