I see your point of view and can accept that that's how you view things and choose to live your life. For me there is too much generalizing going on in your comment for my taste. Just because someone is from sierra leone I am not going to refuse to go to their business because they could be on the wrong side of a horribly bloody civil war. I won't refuse to frequent the business of a catholic just because there are some who abuse children. And I won't hold an athiest accountable because some idiot who also doesn't believe in God decided to burn down some churches.
You have a lot of examples that don't hold weight for me in your argument, though if you have a restaurant in your neighborhood where the owner will stone your wife because he has impure thoughts about here then I would definitely say you should not go in there (and should probably contact authorities, and possibly move).
But I hope you can see that you are generalizing groups of tens of millions of people, who may only have a couple things in common, down to a stereotype to be discriminated against. If I were to live the way you are talking about then I would definitely not visit any business owned by you (because I don't want to support your way of thinking) and since I know nothing about you except that you post on slashot I think I should not support anyone who is on slashdot.
This all comes down to pretty core beliefs and I don't expect anything I say will change what you believe. I guess I just needed a quick break from work to post some thoughts.
"*To those of you who are going to whine or mod me down for saying that, take a look at yourself before you open your mouth (or type the words). Do you not go to some place(s) because of their corporate policies, working conditions, charities they give to, etc? If so, one word describes you: hypocrite."
I could care less what businesses you do or don't frequent and your reasons for doing so. I also wouldn't have thought twice about responding to you except that you seem to be saying that not buying something from Nike because they exploit children is just as valid as not eating at the locale spaghetti restaurant because the owner believes in the flying spaghetti monster.
Now if that restaurant put a picture of the flying spaghetti monster on every menu, and had a prayer before serving your meal then fine, but discriminating who you will do business with based purely on the beliefs of the person(s) at the top (again where those beliefs aren't aimed at directly harming you or anyone else) is just silly prejudice.
If you go to any chick-fil-a restaurant you will not see any mention of God, there will be several employees who have their own (dis)beliefs that differ from those of the owners, and the only way you would know that there is any mention of God on a corporate level is if you do as you did and go searching for their mission statement. Do you really believe it's such a terrible thing that they want to run their business in such a way that it matches the moral values laid out by their religion? I don't hold the same beliefs as they do but i can respect what they are doing.
Again you are totally free to do as you wish, but don't act so high and mighty and treat your close minded prejudice as being the same as a peaceful protest against people/corporations that are practicing harmful and exploitative practices.
I agree that the video is good, however be careful not to have a false sense of knowledge just because you watched it. The video shows that there is too much for a common person to understand and thus they should let the lawyers help them make decisions in legal matters. Your statement:
"Furthermore, while cops can use anything you say AGAINST you in a court of law, if you ask them to repeat something you said that would help your case, that would be heresay, and therefore can not help you."
shows that while you have gained a small amount of knowledge on the matter from the video, you don't fully understand all the implications. For example hearsay is anything that is said (or written) outside of court that directly asserts the truth being tried in the case. Whether it's good or bad for you doesn't matter, it's related to what's being asserted in the case, so just because something is said that can help your case doesn't make it hearsay. Also just because something is hearsay doesn't mean that it can't be used in court.
Any way this is just to demonstrate that there is a ton to know about the laws and if you have any doubt then you should get a lawyer. But again I do agree that this video is good at making you afraid to talk without a lawyer which is generally in your best interest.
You could use a mail synchronizer that sends all your exchange content to someplace like Google and then you have a couple more (many of them open source) options of getting the data from Google.
For example you can use Cemaphore's MailShadowG (www.cemaphore.com) and that will keep your exchange box and Google account in sync. However that product has the problem that you still need to run Outlook someplace so you would still need a windows box or a virtual machine running Outlook and MailShadowG. But the upside is you wouldn't have to use Outlook.
Unfortunately right now there aren't many great options for getting Exchange 2007 data into a free environment.
Bourne isn't in the same league as this movie. In terms of shakiness... well there are scenes (yes that's plural) where they are running and the guy with the camera is literally swinging the camera to the point where all you can see are the light trails from whatever lights may be in the scene. As for how it confuses the scene? Well i guess you get the impression that they are running but really you have no idea where anyone is or where they are going, all you can see is light trails.
Overall I liked the movie, but I can fully understand how someone could hate it.
The other night Colbert talked specifically about this. He said that under election law he can use the corporate sponsorship money to produce the Colbert Report but he can't use it for his campaign. So he took the opportunity to satirize the law and point out that as Colbert the show host he is saying "eat the chips!" but as Colbert the presidential hopeful he is simply saying that he enjoys a nice doritos chip.
In any case he and his show lawyers aren't as stupid as they pretend to be and they will make sure they stay on the right side of the law in case this does get taken seriously.
It has an all guitar sound track playing, then overlaid on top of the sound track are guitar cords that play due to your different actions. Killing an enemy will play a cord, pickup up a power up, shooting bigger enemies, or any other action will play a cord. The desired result (i believe) is a feeling that you are making "music" while shooting things, but it looks like it often comes out as a very convoluted mash-up of sounds which isn't always pleasant.
I think it's an interesting idea but i guess this week we'll see how well it actually works.
"It would be interesting to compare how many games the 360 had 11 months into its life."
Most people don't actually find it that interesting. Most people just want to trash on whatever console they don't have. If you actually align the launches of the consoles from the data of a site like vgchartz then all you see is that the PS3 is selling on par with what the 360 did over the same time span (of course the wii is killing them both) http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&align=1. It will be interesting to see what the PS3s christmas upswing looks like compared to the 360s.
As far as games. Well you can look at metacritic and see how many games were rated in green and what year they came out. Unfortunately they don't have a handy flash graph to show it nice and pretty but if you sit down and count the titles from the first year of each launch the 360 had 19 in 2005 and the PS3 had 12 in 2006. Next year we can compare titles from the first full year of each console (the 360 had 48 in 2006, and the PS3 currently has 31 for 2007 and will most likely hit at least 40 by the end of the year, though that's very conservative, i see at least 16 games being released by the end of the year that i would be surprised and disappointed if they were below 70 on metacritic.)
So my point is if you align the launches there's not much difference in performance of the 360 and PS3, but that's not nearly as newsworthy as a zealous mob screaming about the demise of one or the other.
According to 1Up, Midways CEO said that there have been technical issues with the Unreal Engine 3.0 which caused delays for Stranglehold and now Area 51 (coming out 3 weeks after the 360 version) and Ut3. However he says that the technical issues have been "ironed out" and after UT3 the PS3 versions of games using the engine will be released at the same time as the 360 versions.
Mark Rein responded to this and said that midway was announcing the delay because "they have an obligation to their shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay" but Epic is still trying to get the PS3 version shipped before the end of 2007. He also said that the delay will mean that the PS3 version ships with all the maps that the PC version will have.
The original poster was not asking about the validity of Sony's argument about why they haven't had rumble until know. He asked if the controller has both rumble and motion sensing, so i told him where i had heard that it does have both. The point of my statement was to focus on the fact that they are both in the controller. We all assume that there weren't serious technical issues but let's not troll the subject.
Yes it does have the motion sensing. If you read the keynote, when Kaz announced it he started off talking about how originally they thought there would be technical issues with having rumble and motion sensing but they have overcome those issues and have both in the new controller.
And you claim that makes it outsell nintendo and the xbox? Ok by that logic it's correct that it outsells xbox but if you're going to compare it to nintendo it's a little bit of a double standard if you take all three systems and compare it against only the wii OR it DS... by your line of reasoning shouldn't we combine all nintendo platforms and get 403.6 + 383.3 = 786.9k so you should be saying
"the nintendo family is outsellin the sony family and the xbox gg xbots and ps3tards"
If you want to troll at least try not to look so obvious (and just for the record the only console i currently own is a PS3)
"and it's much more effective than Firefox's Adblock extension."
Please elaborate in what way is it "much more effective"? Is it better at blocking ads? I have been using adblock and have not seen an ad in so long that when i go to another computer who doesn't have it installed i am always surprised by page layouts that i frequently visit.
I like opera too and use it but from your statement i'm wondering if there is something that i could benefit from that you know about opera over firefox, or if it was one of those blanket statements that has no real validity to back it up (if that's the case that's not necessarily a bad thing, after all this is the internet and/. and we all do it from time to time.)
The controls are setup to use the sixaxis controller, you apparently can't even fly the dragon with the analog sticks, you are forced to use sixaxis. That combined with the fact that factor 5 is like insomniac in that they are a private company but have a partnership with Sony where they develop exclusively for the PS3 means that it for sure won't be coming to any other gaming platform.
This is such a stupid troll. "let me know when some decent games come out"?? Yeah let me tell you when a game that you like comes out. If you don't like any of the games on a system then that's fine, don't go out and buy one! I personally look at the releases coming for the Wii between now and the end of the year and the games that i want to play on it are Metroid (because of the hype, not that i think i'll love it all that much), Mario galaxies, and bully (have the PS2 version but want to see what they add).
At the same time when i look at the PS3 releases during the same time i want to play: Lair, warhawk, heavenly sword, stranglehold, skate, ratchet and clank, folklore, GTA IV, Army of Two, Assassins Creed, Haze, Mercenaries 2, Rock Band, and Uncharted.
Now i look at those two list and the PS3 looks a whole lot more appealing to me than the Wii... what does that mean for you? Absolutely nothing. Once again if you don't like the games then don't buy them, i promise the government isn't _yet_ to the point where they will come to your house and break your knees if you don't buy something.
The 360 base system (also called the core system) doesn't have any harddrive. If you buy one of the others then you would have an HD with 20 or 120 gigs depending on the model.
However if you take a minute and look at the AC's post it is pretty obvious that he's not talking about harddrive space. PS2 didn't have 4 gigs of HD space, the PS3 doesn't have any 25/50 gig models. Then when you look at all the other systems listed in his post they did not come with any form of HD. It's pretty clear he's talking about optical drive storage. It looks like he's saying the PS2 had single layer DVD == 4gigs, Xbox dual layer dvd == 8gigs, PS3 blu-ray which is 25 gigs per layer, and he's saying that the 360 has a DVD that only holds 7 gigs.
I have no idea why the 360 would only be able to use 7 gigs per side of the dvd but that's what i infer from his post, and i could probably go google the answer but i really don't care at all.
If you want AO games then you should get something other than a Wii. I'm not saying that to be mean or derogatory but because the new report is that Nintendo has officially said that it's against their policy to have an AO rated game on the Wii.
If everyone _thought_ that the Wii was for kids before, well Nintendo just confirmed it.
just as a point to my comment i did a search on amazon for the first new movies i could find on both formats and found "Letters from Iwo Jima" The blu-ray is $23.95 and the HD-DVD version is $27.95 while "Dream Girls" and "Flags of Our Fathers" are $27.95 on both formats. Right now we can't say that the movies for one format are cheaper than for another format.
HD-DVD discs run about $5-$10 cheaper than Blu-ray I keep hearing this and have been hoping this would mean HD-DVD movies would be affordable and worth getting (for new movies, no point getting movies i already have on dvd) but as i've gone out and actually looked at stores i haven't found this to be the case. For new releases at my Best Buy HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are priced the same. For any older stuff that has been put on either format it's usually pretty close to each other (within a couple dollars) but sometimes Blu-Ray is cheaper and other times HD-DVD is cheaper, but all the time DVD is cheaper and it's not worth how much extra you have to pay for the high def format.
I see your point of view and can accept that that's how you view things and choose to live your life. For me there is too much generalizing going on in your comment for my taste. In what way are operating systems not like religions?
In that you can use many different ones to accomplish the tasks you want and not have them contradict each other and not be a hypocrite for doing so.
Question #1: As president what will you do to ensure that our webserver doesn't die a fiery death when this article gets slashdotted?

how about one that does real time raytracing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLte5f34ya8
and yes i know it's not even remotely usable as a game engine but that wasn't the question
That's part of the game.
