Pretty pictures, pretty girls, and entirely empty. At least The Matrix was filled with something which captured the imagination; was filled with human reactions.
Pfft, come on.... pretty girls and technology? What more could a geek ask for?:p
On the other hand, I've watched the original Appleseed recently, and since it's around 10 years old, you can't compare the animation in that to the trailer. Appleseed was one of the first of Shirow's works, so that could explain the 'shoddyness' of it, as not everyone can get everything right the first try. Ghost in the Shell made up for all of that.
I'm reading Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface and I have to say, it's awesome. Full-colour, awesome techy-shiny-looking-stuff, panty shots, skimpy clothing, cool action scenes and cyberaction scenes.... yeah! Dark Horse is selling translated versions now.
Could this be a step for manufacturing artificial eyes? Being able to actually zoom in with my eyes would be cool, and if it has NekkidVision(TM), it would be even better:)
Nono, it'll be much better if you could team up with friends and shout:
"AUTOBOTS, TRANSFORM!"
And they'll automatically dissassemble themselves, and then form into one big robot! And then big monsters appear out of nowhere and the two proceed to bash the crap out of each other.
Or something like that.
Openswan is an Open Source implementation of IPsec for the Linux operating system.
Is it a code fork of the FreeS/WAN project, started by a few of the developers who were growing frustrated with the politics surrounding the FreeS/WAN project.
If I understand neurons correctly, I believe they are linked differently for every person. Therefore, they just can't make a solution that'll work for everyone. I'm thinking of something like those tablet configuration screens where you have to tap where the crosshair is. The configuration program tells you to look left, or whatever function, and finds out what neurons are being activated, etc.
On the other hand, is it somehow possible to extract the optical data from our eyes? Wondering if 'spying' through another person's eyes is actually possible. (The idea came from the 'interceptor' concept from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex)

And today I discovered my school's library runs on SCO *shrudder*
Used Babelfish and then paraphrased it so it wasn't as engrish:
The stereoscopic video display that can been seen from all 360 degrees is in development. Video can be displayed on the fly. - Hitachi, Ltd.
This time, Hitachi has developed a new stereoscopic video display that allows viewers to view it from all 360 degrees. With this technology, viewers can see a 3D picture as if the viewer was using special glasses. It is possible to enjoy this stereoscopic image which just floats in the air without special processing. In addition, using a special video recording system, it is possible to display the images in real-time.
Through the network, the photograph is sent (along with positional vector details), and the image is displayed. Various applications in the field are expected as the new technology matures.
Only bothered to do the first paragraph, as what babelfish produces is really really bad engrish:/
But from what I can read, I can tell you this:
# It's called 'Transpost'
# It uses LCDs and mirrors
It'll be much better if a native speaker translates for us.
I agree with the parent post to some extent. Last Christmas, I got myself a laptop that had Windows XP Home pre-installed. Within 5 minutes I plugged it into the net, I got the dreaded RPC Service has been aborted etc etc message. Thankfully, I remembered the command for aborting the shutdown (shutdown -a), and aborted it. I didn't even have enough time to download and install a decent firewall at that time. I can easily see the average joe going out, buying a computer, and getting infected in the first 5 minutes of being on the net.
Even if they can't terminate the shutdown, the (hopefully decent) integrated AV scanner will detect it and remove it, alerting the user if needed.
You can certainly run more than one virus scanner at a time. Some ppl that use FREE virus scanners on windoze machines use both AVG and Avast!. The only problem is that the more scanners you put on your system, the slower the system will get. So, it's certainly possible (some do it to add an extra level of security)...
Wouldn't you get more annoying messages when the AVs discover a virus? One doesn't need to be told that there's a file that has been infected with a file three times in a row...
Plus, wouldn't they somehow conflict sometimes? Don't AVs have to hook into the system so they can scan the files before the OS executes it?
On another topic, maybe this is all part of some scheme to make money for other companies. They pay Microsoft so-and-so, and Microsoft bundles a crappy addon that leaves the user in search of a better solution. Either way, it's still bloat. I like my Gentoo box... only got what I need (or what I've tried out and forgot to unmerge).
... that was on slashdot some time ago. Had the same concept, instead of printing the normal linear way, you roll it around and the printer somehow figures what to print (or something like that). I remember reading jokes about how easy it'll be to print "kick me" notes on people's backs;)
I've read that same thing happens with porn too... no need to make a whole VR world for pain relivers, just give them a slideshow full of porn:P
I also heard that looking at porn uses much more energy than you would surfing the web. Can anyone verify this? (*sounds of millions of slashdotters putting on those calorie loss gadget-thingy and loading up their favourite sites*) And I mean 'looking', not doing other things;)
Although I'd imagine you could find a pretty big cluster if you walked into a stationary store;p
And anyone feel like telling me what a 'pocket protector' is? It's almost 1am, I haven't touched my homework, and I'm about to fall asleep on the keyboard.
You can tell the bots to get on your Hellbender and man the gun by pressing Fire or Alt-Fire when you're driving it. If any bots are nearby, they will hear the horn and jump on. I love doing this.. run into a couple of bots while leaning on the horn and they all jump on.
And the Ion Painter is in the demo... press the tilde key, and type in 'loaded'. It's a cheat, of course;p
If you mean cyborgs when you said 'robot population', chances of that happening are highly likely, but not for another few years.
:o
That being said, I wanna be a cyborg
No, I think he meant the stuff you can sell for lots of $$$

They'd be playing monopoly, of course. And Bill will own everything, until he lands on a chance and gets sent to jail.

The first [untranslated] tag refer to "hologram". And the bottom bit just explains what holograms are and what the Hitachi Human Interaction Labs are.
