  4. Canada on RIAA Sues More Music Lovers · · Score: 5, Interesting

As a Canadian, I will do these people justice by using my protected rights to share gigabyte after gigabyte of pirated music.

We need more Canadians to have music 'available' for download. We could really cause a ripple effect in which so many of us can legally provide music to p2p apps, that there would be no way to stop the rest of the world.

I'm going home tonight, making a bunch of torrents for my 100 disc collection of mp3, and making all few thousand singles available on gnutella network.

I propose a rally of all Canadians or any other nation that can legally share music. If you can share music, spend the bandwidth and do it. Lets create so much of a problem that the RIAA is defenseless.

Let's show the RIAA that we are in control.

  5. Stable? on No 2.7 Linux Kernel Branch Due Soon · · Score: 1

Will there be an easy to see marker in the version number indicating new features? I would like to know if a specific kernel was released for fixes or for new features. This is sure going to keep Gentoo's Portage people busy.

I suppose every changelog must be checked by the distro folks, so kernels can be marked accordingly.

I can feel the headache already...

On the other hand, 2.6 kernel is great, and well thought out and implemented features and hardware support should be welcomed with open arms.

  7. Tubes on Tubes vs Transistors: An Audible Difference? · · Score: 1

This article is refering to the fact that when tubes are overpowered, they tend to reproduce the truest sound possible.

Please do not confuse distortion with tubes. Many tube based guitar amplifiers can have their clean channel cranked right open, by use of their power tubes. These tubes keep the sound crystal clear. The distortion is created by the preamp tubes, which are specifically selected based on the distortion you want.

An amplifier warmed up for at least 30 minutes will produce the best reproduction of the origial sound. Many audio professionals will argue that DSP can emulate the effects of these crystal clear sounds and tones. Almost every high end audiophile system includes a set of power tubes specifically because audiophiles _know_ that tubes sound best. DSP simply cannot reproduce the warm tones of tubes.

Asside from the power tubes' wonderful audio characteristics, they can help keep you warm during those late night-mid winter jam sessions... :)

Please know the difference between tubes being used for distortion, and tubes being used for audio reproduction. Also keep in mind that hundreds of tube varieties exist, all with a unique sound.

  20. Loyalty? on People Feel Loyalty To Computers · · Score: 1

Your computer is a tool, nothing more. Does anyone feel loyal to a spoon?

While people do grow fond of their machines, many people just hate them. Obviously the real meaning of this post is that the tools around us can be given human emotions. Some people hate their cars for instance, while other people just love them. Many more people will just tell you its a car, who cares?

Perhaps if we spend a lot of time using a perticular tool, human nature helps us treat the tool like we would another person.
