What are you talking about? The taxpayer will hopefully see better, faster service. What else would you expect? That this decision will some how mean that the government will start sending you checks because they can now consider AMD chip sets?!?
Has anyone else found FOSE to be less interesting this year and becoming less and less interesting each progressive year? I walked the floor in a little more than a couple of hours and really wasn't impressed with much. Even the DoD pavillion used the same "hanging soldiers" from the ceiling as last year. It seemed that some of the vendors were "calling it in" and there wasn't that much new and exciting to see.
Actually, Groove is already heavily Office-centric and MS has been a financial/technical partner of theirs for ages. It fits in tightly with Project Server and Content Management Server. The only surprising thing is that it took them this long to do it.
They've been claiming for years that they were just about to release an HDTV-friendly version. If you read the press release they claim that it'll be out "sometime next year." That's what the press release from a few years ago said, too.
The NSA has decided that they don't have the resources to continue putting out new lockdown docs. They're going to let the vendors do it for them. No joke.
So how long until everything in the home has its own IP address - This is nothing. How long until every component in your PC is accessible via an address that can be reached via TCP/IP. Script Kiddies will have a field day hacking your monitor directly.
I've had DVD-A and SACD for what seems like ages. The problem I've found is that unless you order them online, they're a PITA to find in brick-and-mortar stores as most times they're mixed in with standard CDs (at least the SACD ones are). Just my $0.02: The SACDs are crap. I could barely tell a difference. Now the DVD-A ones are amazing.... Miles Davis DVD-A.... *drool*
I was writing a review of Office 97, which shipped on something like 5 CDs, totalled more than a gig when installed. I asked the PR flak if that wasn't a little bloated and he said, "We expect in a few years it will be very common for PCs to have multi-gig hard drives." To which I responded: "So Office 97 is designed for PC 99." He refused to respond;)
So D&D is 30 years old and ...

Had them install the HDTV DVR on Wednesday. Having them come back to take it back. It's terrible. The UI looks like it was designed by blind, retarded martians (there is ZERO user friendliness to it) and the underlying OS locks up. The thing is junk. Tivo needs to keep licensing out their OS, etc. because the cable companies can't beat it.
This qualifies as "Insightful" how? I hardly think that software that has received rave reviews and awards, works exactly like it's supposed to and changed the way we deal with downloading music qualifies as "crappy." If anything, this comment should have been modded as a troll.
Computer, what is the current location of our Disembodied Location-specific Conversational Agents overlords?

Ditto here. Very quiet. In fact, I had originally purchased an XServe to host my stuff in the house. But after I heard rumors of how loud they are, I switched to a DP G5 and I'm glad I did. We actually have it the living room where we watch TV and I don't hear a peep out of it.
A recent (?) episode of Myth Busters proved that brushing one's teeth (or, in New Mexico, tooth) and using mouthwash does not affect the validity of a breath test.
For some reason I'm reminded of the comedian who told the story about how he had the most expensive meal of his life: A hotdog in a movie theater in an airport. He went to pay for it and they said, "That'll be every dollar you've ever earned." He was a dollar short...
Have to agree with the poster who said it looks like wireless video sharing. The wayback'd site has links to the old Java versions of Rendezvous, the easy-sharing/easy-connecting technology that Apple latched on to.

Tip her, I hardly even know her! Wait, that's not right *grin*
Actually, for "booth babes" I go to CES ;)

Actually, the vote was should the president have the authority to go to war. There's a difference.
Great, so this becomes like WebTV. Because that worked out just swell ... *grin*

Either way, interesting article on what (if anything) the lack of the firewire cable means - http://daringfireball.net/
... is moving away from firewire support for the iPod in order to be more attractive to USB-2 friendly PCs, I doubt it's for the iPod.

From Val Kilmer's character, Chris Knight: "Rue the day? Who talks like that?"
