There is one thing I never understood about stan Lee. I mean this guy is obviously a brilliant writer and drawer.
But why did he allways have to only make violent charcters like Spiderman and the Hulk? These series are not very approriate for kids.
I would love to share his works with my kids, but because of all the violence in his work I'm very relluctant to do so.
Well, as long as Disney and Warner Bros continues to make quality series I am holding om to them instead.
Lets see:
>Between spam,: Yeah, that came from Balkan
>anti-spam blacklists,: Definetly more Balkan
>rogue packets,: Ok, maybe some Balkan here
>never-forgetting search engines,: Balkans fault
>viruses, Balkan is evil
>old machines,: Ok, some Balkan
>bad regulatory bodies,: Everything is Balkan's fault
>and bad implementations: Blame Balkan
So please give the peaceful people at Balkan a break!
Blame the those who tries to regulate Internet instead. And blame those that makes tools that makes it posible to do all above. Hey, accidentaly that would mean some of all those Open Source tools..
Uhh, but that can't be right, blame the evil corporations
I hate spam with a passion, but words cannot describe my pleasure in seeing these blacklists, especially SPEWS, shut down. They are pure evil in their methods, and largely ineffective against spam while causing massive inconvenience for ISPs and legitimate users of the network.
Pure evil? So beacuse someone sets up a system to block those servers that allow spam this system becomes pure evil?
Legitimate users? I guess that you are refering to users that "accidentaly" rents space at the same place as some spam-house.
Innefectiv? Yes maybe today, but not when they where updated and cheched?
All this leads me to the conclucion that since you are defending these spammers so frequently you are probably someone that supports or maybe earns money by harboring spam-bussinesses.
"If we looked at what we do in software, if we could only compile and test our program once a year, we'd never get anything done. But that's the mode of aerospace.' "
So I guess he is one of those that think that NASA should send up more manned Space Shutlle's to test if they are reliable?
What works great for games might be disatrous in space.
...much of the innovative software has been developed at ".edu's".
Look for example at that comapny called Microsoft, I think they where a proprietary software-company. And look how bad it went with them!!
Conrahery to the popular beliefs about "they should be doing what WE want" a democracy is not about that. A democracy is about listening to what the voters want and then to do What Is Best For The Country (TM)
According to the constitution the Congres should not comply with short-termed interest and popular wiews that don't reflect the believs of the whole people. In fact they shall instead decide after the opinions of the voters and after listening to organizatins and collecting the campaign contributions from the involved parts decide what would be in the best interest of the people. So your special and limited opinions about RIAA are not the only truth.
..that would have meant that a new outbreak of freshly created anthrax spores would have been interesting?
Legitimization of computer viruses because of scientific reasons is kind of meaningless and might justify the virus writers actions.
But I guess that he is one of those that don't sympathise much with the victims of the viruses.
As far as I know Windows have had native support for Java for ages. Actuallyy since Microsoft and Sun signed an agreement about this back in 1997 that deals with this issue. So the fact that FreeBSD got this is fine but not exactly revolutionary.
'the state Supreme Court ruled that property and trade secrets rights outranked free speech rights in this case.'
At first this sounds wrong, free seech sholfd be protected under the constitution, right?
The thing is that the constitution doesn't specific mention this sort of case. Intellectual property should and is protected at the same level as property. Such a level where choosen by the founding fathers becuase they discovered that the the intellectual property is vital to a growing economy. In other words, this dessicon is correct under the constitution.
This movie is really anoying for someone thats into science. The way time is used for example is way of what sciientific data supports.
But the most anoying is probably the Darth Vader helmet. How is it possible to live with such a helmet? How does he breath? And there is now data about how they in the future have soved the problem with steam from the mouth.
... one that think that this is stupid?
Why can't we let the children be children while they are still young? Do they need all this tech?
Most girls would be satidfied with a old fashion doll without all this hihg-tech stuff.
So someone please think of the childre instead of trying to earn a buck by trciking innocent parents into buying these items.
...the price we have to pay in order to get cheap electricity.
If everyone would pay just 10% more each month, we would not have had this problem.
Personally I think the benefits of cheap electricity greatly outruns the downside with only a possibility for some hundred deaths each ten year.
I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get fed up with this guy. His name has started to get on my nerves, That guy is everyvere. God Damnit: it is not possible to have a decen discussion anymore without anyone dragging in this guy an his so-called law.
Therefore i propose: "Moores Law 2: Anyone mentioning his name in a discussion aboout semiconductors, CPU's or transitsors have lost the discussion."
It makes me sad to see that all those game-developers tries to justify their desire to make good computer games by saying that they will trie to make the game "historical correct" or "with respect to the soldiers".
Personally I think its way to early for these kind of games, the horrors of Vietnam is just too close and most games haven't digesed the World War II games yet. Think about all those children that are struggling to bear the emotional burden of playing these games that in their search for historical correctness displays images that where not ment to be entertainment.
And there are plenty of other successfull wars that could have been covered instead of the Vietnam War. Take for example the American -Mexican war; a great historical drama and a proud moment in our contry's history that too few know about. Game developers should not make games on wars that resulted in great american losses and humiliating withdrawal, such games might destroy the moral of the country to wage war in the future. Instead they should seek to make historical correct games based on true success stories.
I guess that a lot of people will get very upset about this, and it surely don't sound good for Microsoft that have choosen to to something like this.
But remember that MS is arespected company that outside this limited communuty is known as a company that protect the privacy of their customers, and the data they collect about potentiall customers. Whatever you feel about MS, its their *right* to do this. In fact anyone could have done it, its just accidentally happened that it was MS who did it.
I'm sure that the collection of this data will benefit the coputer community as well as it will benefit MS. People shuld learn to trust Microsoft just as most people trust their computer systems.
Why should the government give money to the candidtaes, that would lead to the fact that government would favor those politicians that are closeer to their political views. Actually such a practise is closer to the Soviet Politburea where the "elected government" choosed thoose that should replace them.
FAce it; campaign contributins are here to stay, everyone who wants to give can do so, and everyone can recive. To me thats pretty democratic. And its a open system, that promotes politicans that wants the best for our great country. At the same time this system helps bussiness achive their goals, something thats good for our country.
So the campaign contributions are not a treat but evidence in the fact that our emocracy actually works.
I don't see the problem with companies contributing to politicans. As long as this helps our elected politicians to understand the problems our companies are facing it's a win-win situation for both companies, politicians and the voters.
You should learn to love this kind of democracy, whether engineers are overpaid or not.
And it's not about loyality, all the politicians whom recive contributions are free to do whatever they want after they are elected.
The aspect of this recall that I find most disgustingly unfair is the influence of money in politics. Californians should find it frightening that a wealthy Republican can buy himself another election. And if that isn't enough, we end up with an election where a series of other millionaires are taken seriously when they tell us they will govern for "the people." Perhaps worse than individuals being legitimized as candidates solely because of wealth, is a political system so heavily influenced by campaign contributions that lawmakers can no longer use their own judgment. This is at all levels of the Government,[...more text..]
Why is she dragging in money into the election?
Campaign contributions have allways been a natural part of our democracy. Contributions makes it possoble for the weak canditade that are not that well know to increase their name recognition by advertising.
This is not about wealty republicans vs. some poor democrates. The right to recive contributions is for everyone, whatever policy they have. The sad thing is that such a promising candidate fall to such populistic methods, trying to win some easy votes. Actually this tactic reminds me of some of the elections in the fifthies when democrates fell down to a almost comunist standard when it came to pre-electin statements.
You can expect to see tracking systems suggested for the homeless, pedophiles, drug dealers, spouse abusers, bail-jumpers, tax evaders, etc etc and so on and so on, (each one being some particular organizations "most wanted") until it's actually implemented. And like stone soup, once it's in place, it will be "upgraded" to include everything that anybody ever wanted.
Intergrating all these systems togheter in one bif database accessible to law enforcement and government is the only treasonable thing to do when they are up and running. After all the cost of one large system is less than the cost of many small system.
Actually, all these systems ain't that bad. They could reduce crime significantly and catch people that are likely to do illegal actions in the future. As long as the benefits are greater to the society, and I'm sure the benefits are greater since they are proposing this, I don't see a problem.
Man, I know what I do first thing when I get home tonight!
Order a Linux kit?
Seriously, why cant you just support them by buying a Linux kit instead of trying to rip them off just for the fun of it?
The Sony did not make the excellent Playstation and released joyfull games ofr it just so you could rip them up and destroy the whole value chain.
And whats this thing about Troopers, if you are refering to the police that may knock on your door because you broke an agreement of law; well, guess what. Thats the law enforcement kid. If you are willing to play the game you should be willing to do the time.
Actually push To Talk, or walkie talkie over cell-phone as you might as well call it, is quite handy.
If you allreadt have established a connection to someone all you do is press the button then talk. If you make many small phonecalls a day the service is perfect. Many craftsmen and workers are using it, for them its perfect, and the phone cost actyally goes down as you don't have to hold the line forever.
Currently the phone companies charges a premium for PTT, but I guess its only reasonable since the service is new and pretty high tech. The phone companies have invested a lot of money in this, but now they can sent the conversation in small packets over the IP-network.
At my company we just got this and I'm vert satisfied, monitoring of the workers are easier and takes less time. At the same time the productivity went up, so we can charge our customers more fore the time we work.
Why don't hey ues the Hubble for satelite surveilance of the earth?
I mean, the Hubble is very sophisticated an capable of aking excellent shots. If they had allocated a bit of the money from the Homeland dept. to the next Hubble (Webb) i'm sure they could have used Huble to take shots of Iran and North Korea.
The civil scenario you describe is one where the authorities have control, and have laws requiring the telecom carriers to allow access to the infrastructure in certain circumstances. No need to drop pringles cans.
Yes, I understand that. But as long as the population in this country is so relluctant to allow our government the right to initiate, launch and complete surveillance of possible dangerous elements in our society its difficault for different branches within the government to efficiently accomplish their goals.
Many inside our government fear that terrorist cells can be build up from within our nation by people that don't agree with our policy. When you involve the telecoms that adds bureaucracy to the process and that slows down investigations. In many other cointries in the world it's much easier to controll the population from engaging in unwanted activities, so some terrorist may think that they might as well establish themselves in USA.
There are numerous articles on this subject, and the Army acyually uses special guidelines when they name operations.
A liutenant Sieminski wrote a article about this (do some googling).
At the end of his article, Sieminski offers four guidelines for naming
operations in the future.
1. Make it meaningful.
2. Identify and target the critical audience.
3. Be cautious of fashions.
4. Make it memorable.
Operation Desert Storm was a good name but Operation Iraqi Freedom was even better. The names are altered to fot to the public whom would not accept war unless its sounds "meaningfull".
Personally i liked the Operatin Just Cause (Panama) because of the noble sound it gives, and I think it added something to the justification of he war.
The last operations in Iraq was initially called "Operation Desert Freedom" and later "Operation Infinite Justice". I love the last one as i think it reflects the way the US Military should fight. After that someone wanted to call it "Operation Iraqi liberation" but for some reason they abadonded that. I think this was a good thing as the word "liberation" is a reference to a french word.
I like Sieminski as he has nailed the whole point of naming wars in a special way for the cause of getting the public to accept a war that will beneft the nation:
"an effectively nicknamed operation, an outcome that can help win the war of images. In that war, the operation name is the first--and quite possibly the decisive--bullet to be fired. Mold and aim it with care."
In a perfect world this would not be neccesary, but as long as the public is so relluctant to wars in general this is a good way to convince them to fight for the country in wars that are neccesary but hard to understand ordinary non-educated workers.
But why did he allways have to only make violent charcters like Spiderman and the Hulk? These series are not very approriate for kids.
I would love to share his works with my kids, but because of all the violence in his work I'm very relluctant to do so.
