Exactly so - I typically watch tv rips at 350mb for a ~42 minute show. And yet, I see copies a few days later at 120mb or 80mb, with people downloading and watching. Sure, it's kinda butt ugly, but there are people out there who can and presumably do enjoy it.

On the other side of the deal (since we were talking about OSS cloning commercial software), there's many an example of commercial companies cloning other commercial products. Like Microsoft copying Apple's desktop. Which was originally developed elsewhere anyway.

Or pretty much any new piece of software to fill a niche - there are others jumping right in as soon as they can (eg. cd burning software, dvd burning, dvd duplication....)

Yeah, fox's handling of the whole thing kinda sucked. They decided they wanted a more exciting, action packed episode to start off with (even though it's not a hugely action-oriented show - it does have its moments though) and that caused no end of greif...

In one hour (42 minutes total) they had to introduce 9 characters, give them reasons for being together, _and_ tell a good story? Not a good recipe. Then they kinda jumped around temporally with some of the other eps that make backreferences, and it just got confusing.

As Colazar says, start from the beginning, and enjoy. (If you're evil like me and torrent it, they'll be in the right order. If you do like it, I recommend the dvd version though - support the good shows when they're cheap :)

This patch is both a bugfix (camera updates) and updated content (new moves/weapon).

Now to me, the camera updates are just that - updates. The camera as was originally was nice, cohesive, and mostly all good. Other than a few clipping or perspective issues like running into corners (which damn near every 3rd person game gets) there was nothing really wrong with it. So calling a new method of viewing the gameplay a bug fix is a bit of a strech imo.

Got any other examples of bugs? If not quit griping.

Trust us, download the first episode and give it a go.

I like it because it doesn't take itself _too_ seriously, and uses the sci-fi setting more as a means than an end. Sure, they're on a space ship, but that's just a "home" that moves.

It also focuses more on the characters than the tech (which Trek does a lot)

From what I know, during the premier they get off to Atlantis, and then goof up and get themselves stuck there - it's mostly autonomous from the original show. I do recommend you hunt down the Stargate Atlantis Lowdown on bittorrent or something (it aired last week) that should bring you up to speed on what's happening with the main Stargate storyline and universe. They're spending their time in another galaxy, no Gua'uld, new bad guys, new stuff going down. Should be fun :)

One of the things the writers mention is that for it to work as simultaneous shows, the one thing they _don't_ want to be doing often is invite the crew from show B to save the guys on show A. Regardless which show is A and which is B.
