I didnt know fourm trolls get their own cnet articles now
Also, if forum trolls got their own articles, this one would be about the lead developer Furor, and how his guild was allowed to level up on an easymode pve server, and then that server was among the first to be allowed to transfer to a server with a pvp ruleset.
Then it could go into how furor was nothing but a forum troll in EQ, who used to rant about how he hated the paladin class, and that is why the WoW paladin is in such a sorry state and got boned during it's review.
Ive barely even seen any issues since patch 1.10. I think patch day the servers were down all day, but thats to be expected.
Server preformance varies from realm to realm. I hadn't really had any issues until the last week or two when my server decided to drop 40 minutes into our 45 minute baron run, and then again in the BG's later on.
As someone else mentioned, I think they are still a victim of their own success. Sure it's been over a year since launch, but they were expecting 250,000 subscribers and got 6,000,000.
What is trolling? Putting forth a undesirable scenario to you?
The reason Apple is 'so great' is because they control the whole experience. What you are buying is the hardware + apps +OS.
Jobs has stated before that apple is a hardware company.
If you sell the OS on any old PC hardware (as many have asked for) then suddenly Apple loses one of the legs or their product.
Or, if they open source it, they lose the huge expense of having to develop it further.
The reason everyone wants apple to do these things is because the quality they can get when they control all those things.
Between work and home I have a G4 and a G5, along with a few PC's. Honestly, my macs crash as much as the PC's do with win xp. The reason I like my mac is simply because I don't have to deal with as much nonsense when web browsing (ie spyware), and the GUI is much slicker.
I am so tired of people saying: I love apple OS, but i will never pay for it until they sell it for my shitty dell hardware! Well, then it wouldn't be the Apple that is able to be so high quality, and you wouldn't want it anyway!
Apple makes pretty cases, but I don't see their hardware as superior. It was funny for so many years mac addicts talked about how superior RISC chips were and how apple would never switch to intel...
So, back to my original point: Dvorak is a tired hack, and he is trolling for pagehits. Please stop putting his crap up here and helping him out!
Yeah and you are trolling for modpoints by repeating the slashdot groupthink that "OMG DVORAK IS TROLLING". I'd hate to break it to you, but he was popular before Slashdot started posting his articles. He was probably writing about IT in Byte before you could suck up for karma.
All it takes for one person to think that the normal mount cost is too much, and bingo, the gold farmers have a business. Heck, you can say having any type of economic system is going to invite farmers, since there will always be those lazy individuals where ANY amount of work is too much.
Is it being 'lazy' if player A with 10 hours a week buys gold to get a BoE epic to keep up with player B who plays 40 hours a week and has superior BoP epics?
People buy gold in world of warcraft for two reasons:
1. Mounts are overpriced, and it's a boring timesink to get them.
2. To keep up with other players who out gear them.
3. Gold is cheap. It would take me days of BOREDOM to earn 1000G in game. I can earn the money to buy 1000G in two hours of my real life work, which is actually more enjoyable than grinding in WoW which I play only for pvp. Why would I take 40 hours of my time to accomplish something that could be done in 2?
These gamers are probably the same folks who cheat and hack their way through every single-player game, blowing through them in a fraction of the time that it's supposed to take.
No, these are the gamers who have full time jobs and other responsibilies, but due to having those they can afford to buy gold. They are likely the gamers that played FPS games which only relied on skill, and came to world of warcraft and were disgusted by how much difference gear creates in the game.
They should hire a software engineer to figure out how not to use a shitty popup interface for stories on their website. It would be nice to have one long, regular article...so you can do something nice....like print it.
Your interactions will consist mainly of mind dulling staff meetings, early morning, barely intelligible conference calls to far off lands attempting to keep outsource staff up to speed (good luck with that) while the real work will be long solo hours staring at a machine (evenings and weekends if need be).
What office job doesn't have this kind of description?
Just about every professional should know when to leave their profession. john Dvorak should have left 10 years ago. He has been wrong on SO many things.
You mean like the Mac switch to intel a year early, which all the Mac geeks killed him for? Sure, he is right on some things, and wrong on others. His horrid reputation on slashdot however is a result of him not drinking the kool aid of slashdot group think.
If there is one thing his opinion columns always are, that is entertaining.
FYI, most of these game guides are created by taking information (even if it's outdated) from strategy sites like MultiplayerStrategies.com. I wrote a few guides for them (No, I wasn't paid, but they have paid writers on the staff) and those guides turned up in different places for free. (whatever).
Another one of their writers (mongoose) who is very popular for having leveled every class to 60, has had many of his guides stolen and resold on ebay, and on those annoying 1 page ad websites. The worst part is they resell guides that are months old, with tips that haven't worked for many patches (such as the zoning into and out of instances near maintanence to dupe items).
I was actually thinking about writing a new guide and selling it on ebay. Nice to see blizz is picking on the little guys again. tsk tsk.
This country has two parties for a reason, and they need to keep each other in check
Uhh, no. The seperate branches of the government were meant to keep each other in check. If you think the president has been overstepping his boundries, then congress and the senate has failed you, not the democrats. Washington hated political parties. Also, the only reason we have two parties is because they collude to sqash third parties that are a threat. Back in 1992, Perot gained 19% of the vote, which was mostly attributed to his showing in the debates since he was polling at 7% before the debates. So what did the Republicans and Democrats do? They came to an 'agreement' that no candidate would be allowed in the debates again unless they were polling at better than 15%.
Anyway, it's nice to see the Democrats actually suggesting policy rather than jumping on George W, but I'm sure she will get around to that. At some point this will turn into "George Bush doesn't want poor people to have Broadband!"
Interesting correlation. I also get sick from first person video games within a couple minutes, and I can't read in a car.
Personally, I found a great way to prevent getting sick -- don't play the game. It's not like it's something you're really into (since you can't do it). If I was blind, I wouldn't visit many art museums and stand in front of the paintings. There are a wide variety of games and entertainment out there other than FPSes... many don't even need a computer or console.
Michal Jordan had basketball, I have video games! I can't pass up a whole genre even if it makes me want to puke.
"A friend of mine gave me Silent Hill 3 for Christmas (yeah, I know it's old), and I finally got around to playing it. Within 2 minutes, I had to stop and step away from the computer: intense nausea and pressure right behind the eyeballs. I got really, really motion sick playing the game. Does anyone have home remedies, set-ups, video options to make it bearable?"
If you are prone to motion sickness, this is normal despite what other replies have claimed. I forget the exact number, but something like 20% - 30% of the population will experence motion sickness when put in a VR environment (ie a first person shooter). If you are the type that gets seasick reading a book in a car, there is a good chance a FPS will do it to you as well.
For me personally, seasickness pills and the bracelets didn't work. I came to notice that some FPS games made me sick (most often ones played on a TV) while others didn't. Some games I could play through being seasick (SiN on the PC) others I couldn't (Golden eye on N64), and some never bothered me at all (the original Unreal Tournament).
I've owned every video game system since the Atari 2600, and Ultima IV is still the best RPG I've ever played. It's the only one that's ever made me consider my own virtues in life. It also helped me realize, I don't have a lot of the good ones.;)

would this be a good game to play in place of wow?
People with addictive personalities will find something to be addicted to....The game isn't the issue.
I beg to differ, I was addicted to Unreal Tournament before, and it wasn't even close to as destructive as WoW can me.
Dell aquired Alienware and with it the right to grossly overcharge for typical hardware in a pretty case.
Dvorak is trolling again.

100 bi jokes to follow
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;...
That means, a judge can hang the 10 commandments in a courtroom, right?
Also eyebrow-raising, Apple's take on the XP logo:
Kinda looks like a swastika.
From the article:
you know that site is vulnerable to a technique of stealing database contents called "sequel injection."
Is this an attack based on the recent star wars trilogy? Someone should inform the author it's still written "SQL injection" despite how it sounds.
Can I buy your account?

Shut up, fools, 99+% of you are going to end up using Vista anyway.
:/
Ideally, we will be duel booting it on a mac. That way I wouldn't have to keep a G4 next to my XP box.
You mean you want OSX on an Alienware computer?

Macs are not perfect, but they seem to handle errors better,
Getting something like "Errror -32" instead of "Invalid page fault" is better?
and are little more virus proof...
Until they gain a respectable market share.
Hopefully BioWare will take a page from Second Life and avoid the mistakes made by WoW.
Obviously you are talking about the Paladin class.

Are we trying to seed life, encourage life, or study life?
Accomplishing any of the above would be pretty remarkable, and a success.
