Better than half of all employers and recruiters I submit my PDF resume to email back and request DOC format. Who knows what percentage of those *don't* email back and just chunk it.
... it's the white collar execs (and wannabe execs) here in Corporate America that we're mad at!
They get the nice fat promotions and bonuses, while our jobs go elsewhere. And we are the same people they praised just last year as invaluable assets to the company.
So what happened? They can't get rich pulling fancy accounting tricks, so this is what they've resorted to.
I seriously hope that I'm wrong when I predict that this whole thing will fail miserably (taking the off-shore jobs with it).
Well, first of all I don't want to run it on some homebrew shitbox. The cost of entry of "it just works" is too damn high. Here's an idea - Apple can partner with an OEM and sell a nice $999 OS-X PC that will plug into my existing array of PC peripherals and extra hardware I might have. For the $49 (or free) crowd, Apple could release a non-supported version for people to install on whatever Intel box they want. Pipe dream? Don't think so.
Yeah, I'm not worried about the 12 month commitment. Sheesh, I've had a DTivo for 2 years and vanilla satellite 2 yrs before that. In April I got the mover connection to install a new dish at my new house, bingo - another 12 months. Keep 'em comin . Glad to hear they are not cummulative.
After reading this, I went out (at lunch) and picked one up. They had two on the shelf (maybe more in the back - dunno). Got it for $93, no problem being a current subscriber.
Yeah, I wonder how many of those you describe as "in power" wear american flags on their lapels and have "protect freedom" bumper stickers on their mercedes? Something to think about.
I want this for my car!!!
It just doesn't get any better than this! w00t!
Yes, a lot of people around here still do write checks. At it is painful to watch!

$40-50k... before you get outsourced to Bangalore or Manila
TechTV beat Slashdot to this headline. Old news... (yawn).
To those with grandchildren in college pursuing IT degrees, what advice would you have for them?
I am training my replacements - all three of them. Apparently my company is paying less for three Indian workers. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
sure the drives are cheap, but it isn't exactly free to backup 1PB.

In Houston, you can take computers and other electronics to the Westpark center or the Environmental service centers:

This is going to wrong way - all Jobs has to do to get my $129 is provide a version of OS-X for an Intel box.
Rock on!
Too late. It's called Quicktime, and it's already here.
If there was one thing about Microsoft (as a competitor in the marketplace) that you could change, what would it be?
Remember the betas for Windows NT 5? I think I still have them, somewhere. Point being, a lot can change in the span of a year, nevermind 2-3.
