My 2 cents on monthly fees is that they are completely craptastic for the Hardcore Casual Player like my self. I really do enjoy these games but I find the payment structure asstastic if you only spend 3-4 hours a week playing.
While perhaps not completely sane, it would be great to if companies could institute a per minute billing scenario. It would not be that hard to do as the game already tracks your logging in and out. So very much like cell phones that have payment plans that can be filled up, something like this used in the MMO world would go a long way to get more casual gamers into it I think as they do not have to commit to a monthly fee and perhaps not use all the time.
As well there could always be restrictions on the Hardcore Casual accounts in that you could not exceed a certain number of hours per month if you choose to pay per minute, that way those that buy bulk time (reg monthly fee) dont feel they are being ripped of.
Now I know some people will say that the monthly fee is low and it should be no problem to pay it, but that is just not always the case. 3 kids, a new house and a 2nd car all cost money and take away from paying out to things like MMOs and not getting my bang for my buck (that is low hourly play per month) is not always the best way to spend money.
Yes this might sound crazy but I think it is time for a change in the structure of MMO payment. Even if they went for a first 3 months bulk (to get there capital intake they need to keep the game running) then gave the option to pay a different way that would be super fantastic to as far as I am concerned.
It could be a fun thing to have him start up a private company funded by EA money and create innovative titles, something that is lacking from EA these days.
Just dreaming of his deep pockets and the possibilities....
This comes up every time there is a next gen. -sigh- PC gaming will always be around because people want to have the choice of dynamic titles and until every console has a mouse and keyboard, PC gamers will keep to the PC.
Why is it a bad move in this case for EQ2 to realase early?
If the game is at all buggy and people get frustrated with it, WoW will have 1 superfantastic launch.
I believe people in general are getting tired of "testing" early released MMO and having to pay for them. WoW may be the bar that other companies need to set in order to deliver a MMO to market.
Great response. Even though there are those here who say they wont buy the game because of activation, it wont stop this game from making boatloads of money. Besides the main reason for many people to get HL2 is to play CS:Source which requires internet access so no big deal. Yes it is too bad for the 1% of people who don't have net access that want this game, but you cant please all the people all the time.
But besides that, people in general need to curb their zealous indignation about privacy invasion. Get over yourselves, your lives are not really that interesting. The only reason I could see someone getting their nose out of joint is if there *is* something ( illegal ) that they don't want other to know about. Otherwise, really, your lives and privacy is secure.
I don't buy very many titles as I don't have the extra cash. As far as Fable goes, I do like the design and the execution of what this title entails. Going from a youth to old age and having your actions dictate how those around you feel about you sounds like fun. As well there are all sorts of intricate systems in the game as well that, I feel, will give the game some replayability.
I did buy Black and White too and I couldn't get past the 3rd world where you lose your creature. The game has some amazing parts to it but that 3rd level was hard. I will probably pick up B&W 2 though because I think they will have fixed and refined the game, only to make it better.
So in closing, I will buy Fable and I will play it to the end! After all, it is by the same guy who founded Bullfrog and made Syndicate.;)
While I understand that some persons would not enjoy hundreds of hours of game play, the reason to inform the player of the number of hours available is to allow you to make a choice based content to be delivered. I for one like knowing the approximate length of play time to help me make a decision on which game to buy.
As I do not have an unlimited amount of cash to spend on games I make my purchases carefully and tend to buy games that have replay ability. If I saw a game with 10 hours of game play and no real replay ability, I would probably not buy it. Now a game like GTA which has the core missions plus the sandboxedness attached as well, I find quite appealing. The Tony Hawk series as well. After all the "missions" are said and done, I can still tool around and the game is fun.
While there may not be an exact science to the length of game play due to skill of player, yadda-yadda-yadda, I still I believe that games need to place hours of game play to give the buyer an idea of how much mileage they can expect to get out of a game.
Yes I meant that to be funny. Although, after I played the game and had a friend over, who made his own character and starting playing the game I was shocked that although it sounded like me, it didnt look like me.
But have you heard the voice acting for Corwin in Ultima Underground? It is short of amazing.
Huzzah!

I became quite attached to the sound of my voice in that game ( not my voice but the voice of my character, which wasnt me, but I created him, not as part of the released game but in game after I bought it )
Is Hell freezing over?

Get over yourselves and be happy getting paid. Have we learned nothing from the NHL Lockout?! Aaaaiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee!
Well it looks like the party is over. The site just got Cease and Desist from EA Lawyers.
More to the point, is what the major networks pumping out as news really journalism? Think about that. ;)

Pure Gold! Rational thought is so nice to hear now and again.

I know I can wait! Now back to modding Fable. >=)

Amen.

We don't have the US Sentate here. C'mon up! =)
Just give'er Derek. It is your time to shine. Lets see a AAA title based on the FS Univers, that would rock!
