I dunno. I've played X-Box a lot and the only reason I own one is because it was given to me for free. I still haven't gone out and bought any games for it. With the exception of Halo which I've played to death I really am not interested in much X-Box has to offer. Perhaps when Halo 2 comes out.

I'm all for making troops life easier while in a combat zone, but uh, shouldn't more money/time/expertise be used towards something a little more useful? Say....water or electricity for the population of the country the army is currently occupying.

You mean like the $87 billion that was approved earlier this year?

As an Airman trust me when I say that stuff like this can be very big for morale. And something that needs to be raised right now, especially in the combat areas is higher morale.

Don't forget, while people got that $300 back because of federal tax cuts, how much did state taxes go up? What services are being cut because they can no longer be funded? How much was your school taxes raised? Property tax?

While Bush made out like the good guy for giving people a few bucks, many are too uninformed or don't want to like to the fact that they are still getting taxed almost as much to even more because the states are now having to cover what the federal government cannot.

The Combat Mission games have been hailed as the best wargames ever developed, and even some of the best PC games developed period. It's a truly amazing achievement, considering that Combat Mission was started in a garage by two or three guys, and that the only place to get it was online. BigTime Software and battlefront.com have done a wonderful job with the CM series. While it isn't the best selling video game of all time it gets great reviews and has a wonderful community following. CMBO and CMBB sold well considering they were only released on the internet at first and have since both gone on the be released in stores as Special Editions. And soon we'll have CMAK and I'm sure that'll do just as well and get rave reviews just like the others.

Combat Mission is a great example of the good an independent company can do if they have the freedom to make a game how they want and don't have to deal with upper management, market researchers, etc. getting in the way.

The CM series is great but if I'd never been offered a demo to play I highly doubt I'd own both games that are out today and have my credit card ready for when the third goes on sale.

The fact is, games are expensive. I'm not just going to blindly buy a video game. For console games I'll rent them before I buy them and for computer games I get a demo first. It's how it is. I'm not going to throw my hard earned money away on crap.

Now I'm not the most familiar with online console gaming but I know with online computer games many of these need to be patched. And it's possible to do this with a computer. But with a console game it's not possible to patch it. I suppose the gaming companies could fix the problems and release an updated game but it'd just piss off those who already have the game.

I'll use Civ3 Play the World for example. It was terrible out of the box. Multiplayer didn't even really work. But several patches later and while not perfect is much, much better than it was on release. If PtW had been released for play online with a console Firaxis would have had plenty of pissed off people.

I don't think they should be shooting for the C-SPAN of science. That's not exactly the most entertaining of television for the majority of Americans. They will have to spice it up in some way while still sticking to true science. Otherwise its audience will only be those who already are truly into science the same way that most who watch C-SPAN are already very much into politics.

Nintendo also disclosed it had originally planned to reduce the GameCube's price earlier in the year, and expects the new price to vastly improve sales during the holiday season.

Nintendo just dropped the price of the GC. Now sales have gone up significantly. And with the sales of the consoles are sales of games. I'll bet that Nintendo will be back in the black real soon.

That's why I like Nintendo's approach to things, they focus on the games and gaming aspects of their devices not fancy doo-dads that aren't the best price and raise the price.
