While the NYT may fare dismally in search rankings, I suspect their online influence is still strong. Many of the top hits on a given subject may not link to nyt.com but i'll wager that a number of them are blogs that reference Times material. Just a thought.

While I'm with you on the basic idea, i can't help but comment. This is a stupid idea. First of all, displaying a screenshot is not a DMCA violation--what are you circumventing? Second, and more importantly, there are more cunning ways of defeating the DMCA than succumbing to it. Challenge the act all you want. But using it to prove an ill-begotten point is short-sighted indeed.

I feel like this is an appropriate place to post this idea. For quite some time, I have pondered the possibility of a keylight system powered by the human body. It works like this: when it's dark out and you're fumbling for the keyhole, could your body power a small LED (or other light source) around the key hole so you can clearly see. Your electricity would pass through the key and touch a contact on the door handle which would cause a faint glow. Has something like this been done? Is it possible?

I don't have the money for a patent search so I'm just throwing it out there. If someone invents it and makes a killing, help a poor student out with a lil' somthin'.

Which makes me wonder, is there an "open patent society" of some sort that can shepard ideas like this for the public domain. I seem to recall coming across a forum for inventions like this but I can't find it in my bookmarks. Much thanks!

Remember that Edison ran a laboratory with many scientists who all contributed work towards his patents. If you think about it, Edison was a precursor to modern technology corporations. That is he provided labs for brilliant people to work and in return, he maintained ownership of all the patents. Edison had incredible ingenuity, but he was also quite capable of taking others' ideas and making them his own.

It was the most troublesome search I've come across. However, you may just want to buy a universal charger. The first link returns this. If the electric ratings match you'll be fine. Only 43 US dollars. Or get an extra battery for 23 more. Hope this helps.

This isn't a proper analogy. Stealing the source to the game is more like stealing the master tapes for a music track. A closer comparison for downloading an mp3 (a finished product) would be downloading the game (a finished product.) The fact that the source code included copy protection measures only compounds the problem.

Is that what they call research these days? ; )

In all seriousness, it seems your examples are bunk . For example the first page for simpsons audio clips is a page with dozens of clips. As for wallpaper, well, be more specific. Do you want space wallpaper, cartoons, underwater, nature? If you're looking for something particular (whether its a favorite simpsons quote or a wallpaper of the sydney harbour) use the keywords, in quotes if necessary to target what you need. Just don't complain its Google's fault when your search terms suck to begin with.

Amen! Audiogalaxy totally ruled. I discovered artists like Fila Brazilia and many more. I've gone on to buy numerous albums and, more importantly hooked many friends on my music tastes. Adding a "rating" feature, like the grandparent suggested, would be a tremendous feature. Difficult to implement properly, sure, but a feature that could make your site boom (check out Netflix for a really nice implementation). Also, distribute full length streams. Magnatune already does this. Don't be left behind by being more restrictive.

Another thought: I always thought it would be cool to have some sort of referal program for a site like this. For instance, if someone bought a song from one of my links, give me a credit. It shouldn't be money--no point. Instead, if I refer say, 10 sales, give me a credit for a song or something.
