    It would take a constitutional amendment to authorize such a fundamental change to our voting system, which would require congress to approve -- the very people whose vested interest is in keeping the status quo. So other than revolution...we'll likely have to keep dreamin'.

    If you're really worried about speculators, buy a Prius, Leaf, or Volt. Last time I checked, no one's been able to form a cartel on sunshine and wind.

    If only the power companies got more than pian all fraction of their power from sunshine and wind.

    Is it special compared to the rest of the planets in our own system? Sure...but so is each of them, in their own way. Compared to all the planets in existence? We have no clue, since our observations are largely limited to Jupiter-sized planets which are naturally very unlike Earth. For all we know, Earth-like planets are commonplace in the universe. Yes, many aspects of our planet and sun seem to be conveniently suitable for life *as we know it* (if they weren't, we wouldn't be here to wonder these things, after all), but until we are capable of detecting things like tectonics and magnetic fields of extra-solar Earth-size planets, it's a bit premature to presume ours is unique in the universe -- just unique in our own system.

    No, but pictures are a form of expression, which is the concern here. Whether you call it freedom of speech or not is pedantic.

    I once asked a distinguished but elderly scientist whether there was a large elephant on my head. He said he thinks that a large invisible elephant sitting on my head is impossible. Since he is very probably wrong, that means it is more likely than not that it's possible that I've had an elephant sitting on my head for many years and didn't know.

    Fixed your example to match the actual law, which involves possibilities, not whether something is or isn't.

    I always wanted stuff explained, both in fiction and in life. "It's magic" never worked for me.

    You must have been one of the two people (along with George Lucas) who enjoyed the midi-chlorian explanation for the Force.

    I think you'll find it's more like: Fluffy Bunny's Candy Shop offered to give all of the kids a free lolly bag, but the project declined, saying they needed to stick to their previous decision of providing fresh vegetables, books on farming, ploughing and harvesting equipment, irrigation systems and bags of seed for everyone.

    Due diligence might have revealed that those same fresh vegetables and farming books you speak of were in the lolly bag all along (just under the yummy candy).
