If it automatically played a theme song after every head shot, this would be the coolest rifle accessory ever.
Am I the only one who found this attempt at humor disturbing and objectionable?
Wow! An orgy of self-rightious political correctness. Can I play too?/p>
I don't consider myself to be politically correct in the slightest; nonetheless, I also found the original comment to be a disturbing attempt at humor. I'm in a line of work (US Marine Corps) where the concept of a headshot isn't quite as abstract as it appears to be for the poster of the original "headshot" comment. My first reaction was of disgust, but I think the comment was simply born out of naivete -- all the OP knows of headshots is probably from playing FPSs. Hopefully one day he'll grow up and realize what he's really talking about.
... when it comes to casual dress. The flight suit is basically a green bag with arms & legs. My last job was as a software engineer (uniform of the day: jeans & t-shirt), so I might go my entire life without wearing anything dressy to work.:)

In 2004, I left a job as a software engineer to join the Marines as a Naval Flight Officer (think Goose from Top Gun). I was making good money ($70k 1 year out of college), had flexible hours, and had a great working environment (awesome boss and several friends), but it just wasn't satifying me.
Now as a 2nd Lieutenant with 1 year of service, I make the equivalent of $42k (tax adjusted) and am loving it. The money is more than enough for everything I want & need.
The only thing I miss is how academic & intellectual everyone was back at my job in the civilian world. Don't get me wrong; the people here are smart, but it's more in terms of technical proficiency and quick thinking. Running my own programming business on the side seems to satisfy that need, though.
It's both, actually. The Army & Marine Corps each has its own version of the word -- Marines say "oorah" (or "hoorah," like the article says, although I've never seen it spelled that way), while Army guys prefer "hooah."
It's an optical rangefinder program for the Pocket PC. The program has a database of images (person, tree, car, etc) of known heights. You hold the Pocket PC at arm's length and resize the image on the screen until it's the same height as the distant image. Based on all that, it calculates the distance to the image.
You can also specify values like the height of your Pocket PC screen, the length of your arm, or the height of the thing you're measuring (if you want to find the distance to Yao Ming, for instance).
Ahh.. hadn't considered that. I'm using DeadAIM, which removes ads from AIM, but it still must be downloading the audio component. Maybe they'll fix that in the next version...
In the last few days, I've started receiving audio spam while browsing the web. Each time, it's been a 30-second ad for the movie Timeline that played in the background, and continued to play even after I closed all (Firebird) browser windows.
Any thoughts on blocking this? The fact that it continued to play makes me wonder what's going on.
Follow the Naval Aviation standard and name them after beer

I'd like to see a EULA that doesn't use all caps ;)
Good one. Wish I had saved a mod point...

Agreed. But it's only a matter of time before the encryption is broken...

mp3 of the Privateer intro ... good times

As of 6:30 Pacific time, the original server appears to be faring better than the mirror. :)
Interesting how the original, non-funny version of the joke got modded up. It's currently at 4, Funny.

Instead of returning to sender, everyone should send them to these guys
Looks like they're aware of the problem and will fix it in a future version of DeadAIM.
You know, I thought I might make it through this life without actually seeing tubgirl. Thanks.

I think it blew off more than his ear. If all they wanted was a removed ear, they could enlist the aid of Mike Tyson.
I remember thinking that when I saw the videos last weekend
Check out the sneak peak video at phantom.net, about 2:30 into it. They misspelled nVidia.
Is this where our research dollars are going? :)
