the risk is greatly reduced by the fact that the vast majority of shopping sites use SSL to encrypt transactions where credit card numbers are being sent
Maybe you don't know, but SSL is useless vs local sniffing because of things like ARP Poisonning ect. SSL is fundamentally broken. Consider every SSL connection you send wirelessly (short of using WPA) to be plaintext. Don't even dare connecting to your bank with it.
This seals the deal for me! I wans't quite sure I wanted to buy a next-gen console, but this, the wi-mote, the 27-game lineup, the non-evil practices, I'm sold!
I think it is not so surprising that AMD sells more Retail CPUs than Intel, considering their cheap prices, their great performance and the cheapness of their motherboards/chipsets. They are the perfect home system. However, when you consider than the vast majority of PCs sold in America and troughout the world are trought direct sales (say Dell) as the Ed implied, and through wholesale (Businesses), AMD is marginalized.
Why? Because they can't promise the same level of production as Intel does. They do not produce their own motherboards, and while some third-party manufacturers produce some great silicon, most are abobinable pieces of flaky crap. For most mom'n'pop users at home, stability and performance don't matter too much, and those $40-60 MoBos are a bargain.
I worked at Microsoft game division a year prior the xbox launch. MS is SO clueless, they had projects for the PS2 going on. Needless to say one day they had a huge meeting...
What he is saying is that most Windows users are the masses that don't actually care. Other OSes don't have this problem due to the fact that they are mostly used by geeks that understand why it is so important to update your OS (any OS for that matter). Not to say that there are not millions of consciencious users (like you) who actually have a clue and know how to secure and patch a Windows machine, of course.
yea but then say goodbye to dualboot...
A lot of us are stuck with dual-boot systems because me rely one MS-only software...
Now this is the worst news since Palladium...
Try Ctrl-k instead of Ctrl-l Tab, it's easier...
I hereby rename this company Microshoo!
What we should do is to make a Godwin's Law of The Second Kind, which would say:
"As justifications for restrictive online laws are given, the probability of a politician mentioning child pornography approaches one."
At that point that politician should be publicly humiliated, thrown out of Congress, and stoned in the street.
Enough already with child porn, the new communism and the new terrorism.
I can assure you that willy-wanking is practiced across the globe!
I am very good at it myself, and so are most slashdotters I guess...
What Would You Do With 700 Billion ISK? Two chicks at the same time. Darn straight. Two chicks at the same time.

You 're right, and I also forgot Big N's practices of hunting down websites that hosted NES & SNES roms. I guess we know why now...
;-)
Also of course I want MS and Sony to stay in the business, because ppl that buy the PS3 and XB360 subsidize the low low price of my future Wii

It's really an homonym, not a synonym. Oui in french means "yes" and is pronounced "we". So homonym.
British? Torchwood? Bisexual? hehehehe

Anyway, props to AMD for their successes!
Hacking is when science becomes art.
Come on. Slander is NOT free speech. See Slander and Libel. You'll see that saying "Ipod batteries are crap!" is perfectly acceptable.
To compare this to the PRC's attitude towards democracy and free speech really shows bad faith.

Just to say I'm not surprised
You mande me laugh out loud in the computer room. I'm ashamed now.
Read that paragraph. It's not an oxymoron.
If your Xbox lasts you 3 years, 5x12x3=180$, so yes it is.

11 comments so far and desktopos.com is /.ed...
I remember having seen it on /. a while ago.
Cool stuff however.
FP!
Apple is proving the exact opposite.
My point wads that future versions of windows will probably require the stock bios.

Nope. You have more chance to be struck by lightning... And if by any chances you are not American, your chances drop to almost zero.
