Ha, I used to have to do this too. In fact, I just tried setting up an old XT laptop to do just this sort of thing. The conclusions? Word processing really sucked back then. Really, really, really sucked. Nevermind the resulting documents looked like ass too.
They should STILL put this up as a poll, as opposed to the inane crap they have up now. I mean really, who gives a damn about cartoon characters vs cartoon characters.
Hackers is a book about the original hackers of each of the computer periods. Woz, RMS, and many more have their stories told. Full of the passion and power these people felt when first confronted with interactive technology it struck a real chord with my own experiences, and may well do so for anyone else with a strong technical bent. Quickie... STRETCH! Every hour or two and before you start in the morning, stop working and stretch your hands and arms. http://www.mydailyyoga.com/yoga/rsi.html I had problems a few years ago with these types of symptoms, and after seeing a physiotherapist (and performing these types of exercise) for a while they went away. Unfortunately, if you are experiencing numbness you may have damaged some of your nerves. I would recommend seeing a doctor/physiotherapist very soon or you could completely lose use of your hands.
Personally, 2k runs pretty well for me on a 450 but I pay good attention to what services are running. Any speed loss I have is easily outweighed by the increase in system stability IMHO. To keep this from being totally offtopic, here's my list in no particular order: Java, dMSN, Eclipse, Gnu Octave, OpenOffice, Blender, Winamp, Modplug Tracker, Audacity, Mozilla Firebird, AVG, ZoneAlarm, Gimp and AdAware
I think I have to agree. XML and XSL are so easy to use at this point that creating an adhoc markup language would be reasonably easy. On a tangent, does anyone know if thoughts have been made about moving TeX to XML?
In the interests of reclaiming your free time, and no longer being ad-hoc tech support, I recommend you immediately: a) install some custom software that will intermittently close random programs b) reset the web-browser home page to goatse (or some distasteful alternative) and c) install windows XP
I tend to agree with you unfortunately, subtlety has never been a strong suit for them. On the other hand, introducing a new generation of readers to the world of Earthsea is a positive IMHO.
I was wondering when someone would speak out about this cult of so called "Life-guards", that encourage our childrens' immersion in DHM in exchange for colored bits of fabric they call "badges". Earning enough "badges" would even allow a child to one day become a "Life-guard", although I shudder to think of what sort of initiation these sick and twisted individuals would perform. Probably ingestion of some mixture of ethanol, dihydrogen monoxide and ascorbic acid. Sick freaks.
Personally, I have found the Ginkgo Biloba helps in clarity and recall. Generally I have found that the required dose is higher than recommended on the packaging, and the effectiveness only starts to take place after a couple of weeks.
pssh.
Spampa Lampas is what we're talking here.

OkCupid has a great matching model which should interest slashdotters, even if it doesn't work necessarily work for you.
Odds are it would at least match you with like minded individuals for a good chat.

Convert to DC, feed through an voltage controlled oscillator with a phase-locked loop and an amplifier. tada

Why would we want to bring it to Earth? The problem is getting large amounts of material _into_ space for construction.

It's probably because Lucas just hasn't remastered the first three (again) yet.
High voltage, low amperage dummy cables.
After a few chews through it they will just not like being electrocuted any more.
Maybe a scratching post with something for them to chew on.
If you're smart they just give you lip though
