Fine then, stand up against the man, you do that but don't be surprised when he comes after you. Sharing is illegal and personally while I have no love for RIAA, I don't feel sorry for law breakers either. Get the law changed by writing your congressman, form your own lobbying group and get something done. Personally, most of these people are probably sharing Britney Spears latest album or whatever is out there. RIAA doesn't care if share some no name band that isn't signed with them. It cares about the big bands they control. Stop acting like your downloading off of is a moral duty. You just want some free music, movies and anything else you download off there.

SP2 also isn't mass deployed at least to those I talked to. I'm on Windows XP (I'm gamer leave me alone) and I haven't deployed SP2. Many people I know have passed on SP2 because they have heard bad things (mainly) or don't want to download it (just adding excuses). Everyone I know runs Firefox, Firebird or something similar. (I know for fact I have a few Firebird .7 still out there)

Lately, more and more screen shots I've seen on people desktops and of internet have included firefox in some form. I've also converted people who install Avant to their system. Avant is great but can be unstable and when I can give them a browser who doesn't do ActiveX and isn't some hack for already screwed up browser, I'm happy. Firefox is making leaps and bounds and it's user base is growing. Microsoft knows it. Why else would SP2 include some "security" updates? Also, why run Admuncher or Adblock which is eating additional RAM and is just more shit to go wrong?

Real question is.... Have you converted today?

Sure there is the artists who don't mind you downloading their music but most artists who see it as piracy believe that the RIAA is the only way to protect their interests. Buy music online, "Support" the RIAA and eventually the artists will figure out they skip RIAA and go stright to Music Services. Kazaa and WinMX and whatever other P2P services you use probably won't make them change their mind and not give into RIAA. All they see is you downloading their music and someone to fight for their rights. RIAA anti-piracy tactics can be saved for another thread.

Think about it. A bunch of personal computers that can't just walk up to, demand access, install viruses software and Windows updates and walk off. BTW, Campus bandwidth isn't suppose to be used for Kazaa, it's suppose to be used for gaming. ;)

Let's not forget, there is no if and or buts, downloading your music (99% of the traffic, I don't get my ISOs from Kazaa I get them from a .torrent) is illegal. Remember, most people in dorms aren't computer science majors and only use Kazaa for music/movies.

Does copyright law need a overhaul? YES. Does that give you the right to violate it? NO. Personally, I think iTMS or other way of downloading is the best way to STICK IT TO THE MAN. After a while, maybe artists will realize they can tell RIAA to go F*** themselves and sell to Apple or someone else directly. However, widespread piracy makes the most artists feel like an organization like RIAA is needed and will continue to prop them up by letting them rape the artists.

Judge ruled in favor and said if Best Buy wanted to practice that type of behavior, they would have to post a sign in the front that said "We do not allow competive shopping". Needless to say, Best Buy changed a few things and I think the guy got a free laptop out of them to boot.
