  1. Re:Use the web version on Intuit Apologizes to Turbo Tax Customers · · Score: 0

My return isn't too complicated and I would probably file via pen and paper. However, I do a number of returns for friends and family and a computer version saves time. Taxcut worked fine for me.

If turbotax removes the activation schemes Ill consider it again and use the one that costs less. If I were marketing turbotax next year I would aggressively reduce the cost of the product to try to regain some of the lost market share.

Or switch to Taxcut. I dont trust them with the web version. The only web filing I do is with the state website. (save the extra $$$ and hassle of applying for the "free state rebate")

You miss my point. I am not disputing the severity of the impact, or suggesting that we ignore the threat because of low probablility. The K/T boundary event wiped out a hell of a lot more than the dinosaurs (1/2 of all marine species and 15% at the family level,25% at family level for non-marine), and I doubt very much that homo sapiens would survive a similar impact. My point being that even if we have the technology tomorrow, there is a good chance our species will be extinct for a host of other reasons if the inevitable impact is a few million years in the future.

True, but given geologic time scales the impact may be several million years in the future. We may not be extant as a species by then, or if we are still around--hopefully have the technology to detect/avoid the calamity.

Excellent point. There is a false perception that outsourcing automatically means cost savings. I have done analyses where the cash flow impact of outsourcing is virtually identical to bringing/keeping the process in-house, and can vastly increase when you consider the inevitable "add-ons". Oh, you want to be able to access the development database?that will be an additional XXX per month per 10,000 records etc etc. Unfortunately, the perception usually wins and the decision is based on the theoretical cost savings that the outsource company is very skilled at presenting.
