If you create a fan that doesn't need water and guarantees performance of a water cooler, I think it'd be a hit.
Not only would it be a hit but it would be a miracle assuming you have a perfect heatsink and fan the best you could cool your CPU to would be room temperature.
The topic is a little misleading I was expecting that the camera somehow used film to store a digital image (makes no sense I know that's why I was interested). But what is really going on is Ross created a really stable, perfectly focused camera and then scanned the negitive in to make color corrections. The camera is not digital at all.
I visited that CWLinux site you posted and man what a mess of a design.
A problem with using mini-itx is that you only have 1 PCI so installing multipul cards would be a problem. But cards that support all 3 standards are made.
Hyperlinktech has a nice selection of wireless gear, amps, antennas, spliters, etc. They seem like there pricing is high but the quality of the product is good.
Is there any way that I can get ALL of the windows[98/2000/XP] updates using linux? The only way I have found so far is to manually click and download each file. There has to be an easier way!
I don't think anyone has said that downloading music that is not free is a good thing(TM). It's wrong we ALL know that. But your analogy does not apply to the situation.
* No one loses the use of the original source when someone like Linksys modifies the source and doesn't release it.
* No one loses money because a company doesn't release its changes back to the community.
If I download the source code to the Linux Kernel modify and then SELL it as MY PRODUCT then the community is hurt. The same goes for music if I download a song, remix it and the RESELL it for a huge profit (I didn't pay for the original so all profit is huge) then that would be a 'bad thing'.
If I understand the GPL correctly a company doesn't have to release changes back to the community if it doesn't release the product. But once again if your making a profit selling something that is not your's then you a a pirate (ARGH!).
When I was in grade school the books where all well used and outdated. For some books this is hardly a big deal, math for example hasn't changed too much. But my 6th grade history/geography book still had Germany as 2 countries. The wall came down when I was in second grade. This is where electronic books would be awsome, always up to date. Of couses laptops for kids just sounds like a nightmare.
It would be great if when you walked into class the homework would automaticly be downloaed, and all assignments would be turned in. The teacher could check to see if you really did read a chapter, how long you spent on it, any notes you made. If this is how it is done then by all means do it, but what I fear is that these laptops will be fully loaded and unsecured with an icon on the desktop called homework right next to the one called Counter-Strike.
In my mind these laptops should be striped, no cd-rom or floppy, just a keyboard with a screen. Why? Because then you can't install software. All updates would be done by the school over the network (wireless would be perfect). Also just have the eBook reader software loaded and it runs on startup. If these are textbook replacements lets make sure that they are used as textbooks.
I'm running Slackware 9.1 on my laptop, when ever I need to install a package I first look for a slack pack. If none are available I then download the source,./configure && make && checkinstall. Checkinstall then spits out a nice slack pack for me to install or uninstall without any hassle. The benifit of this is that I can configure the build how ever I want but still have a nice package to install and uninstall when ever I need.
Checkinstall can also make.debs and.rpm.
with a standard package? This way every linux system runs the same installer and can download the same packages. But because every distro does everything just a little different, the installer reads a config file so that everything is dumped into the same place.
The installer would by default download a binary from one of many sources in a config file. But would have a flag for downloading and installing from source. Also you could specify a file to be installed that is local.
install randomapp -l/usr/src/randomapp
or
install randomapp
Uninstalling would be just as easy just type "uninstall randomapp".
Cross platform and compatible on all systems because everything is the same EXCEPT a config file. Makes sense to me.
What doesn't make sense to me is that if MS goes with PowerPC then it means that if MS is going to run Windows as the OS then they will have to port it over to PowerPC... (Windows running on a Mac? Yeah I doubt it too).
If they went with Athlon 64's or even Opterons then all the work that they are putting towards XP64 would apply directly to Xbox Next. It makes A LOT more sense then to switch to an entirely different system. Also I would think that backwards compatibility would be easier. Since your not having to emulate a different architecture you would only have to worry about any NVIDIA specific graphic calls and convert them to ATI calls.
I just want a keyboard that doesn't have media controls, IM, and Email buttons. Jesus christ I don't need another freaking app loading on startup. Volume control, email, homepage, etc, etc, etc. Can't I just have a keyboard (wireless would be nice) without all the freaking extras (besides wireless).
The Gameboy camera and the game Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64, but if I remeber correctly some school shooting went down and Nintendo backed down on the idea. I hope Sony goes along with it, while the EyeToy is great it needs some more games/uses.
This is redundant and I know it but...
If I checked a box that says use "Blah" as my default internet browser, then I expect anytime a web browser is needed then "Blah" will open and handle it. I didn't check a box that said use "Blah" almost everytime.
It really just comes down to this, if your going to provide the option to set another browser to defualt then you should follow that rule 100% of the time. Or just don't provide the option.
My guess would be that if this is a multi core CPU then it would be sharing cache. Kind of like HT but instead of acting like 2 processors it is two processors.
Now a true dual cpu system would still have the advantage as each processor is independent and not sharing resources.

This is like a freaking death sentence considering everyone in town thinks that this is there own free computer tech support hot line.

Optical mice don't work so hot on untextured/glossy surfaces.
It may not ding everytime an email arrives but the damn thing DINGS everytime you hit the tab key. Damnit I HATE the bell.

Read this thread to find out how great sat internet really is...

To trying to get first post!!!! But really, why don't you just ween yourself off? Have the small cup of coffee or only half a can of Dew.
and you wasted 5.5 hours of the work day I'd KICK YOUR ASS (and then move into your cube house).
