Devil May Cry had a good solution to this. Holding down the control to the right would make your char run right. Sometimes the camera angle would swap, as you were running right down a hall, the angle would all of a sudden have you running to the left. If you kept the direction held to the right, the character would still keep running down the hall, to the left, on the swap. Once you let the controler sit in neutral, the directions returned to normal. This was a very nice feature.

It doesn't matter that the majority of people who purchase the chips are using them illegally. It is the people who make the decision to break the law, not the mod chip creators. Remember that t-shirt, "Guns don't kill people, I kill people?" Same thing, mod chips don't make me illegally copy games, I illegally copy games.

Why is it a bad thing to not be able to max out your games? Do you have that option with consol games? Why would you want to take options away? When I eventually upgrade my pc (I haven't in about 3 years), I pull out my old games and max the resolution and amazingly, they look good again. When I pull out my ps1 games, they look like complete ass.

Just because you can, doesnt mean you need to. Play the game at 800x600 and put everything to medium detail. Tweak as you want. I like being able to choose what I want to see in high detail and what I don't care to look at in low detail.

When the game is installing, you could also do yourself a favor and read the instructions. I know most people now a days don't bother to read them, but while you are installing, that's the best time to read up on how to play.

A pc game is MINE, I can do what I want with it, I can mod it, I can go look at text files in it, I can grab all the small audio files in it, I can find menu graphics in it, it's mine to play with, destroy, repair, or leave a lone.

Most pc games auto detect what hardware you are running, and set the detail level accordingly. Most of the time settings don't need to be changed when you open the game.

I just don't understand why you want to take the ability to configure away from yourself. I think it's the pressure of seeing a friend play the same game and have it look completely different on his machine. It makes you envious, want to tweak settings, or buy a new graphics card so it can be as cool as theirs. You don't have to do all that, just leave the default auto configs in, and play.

That, or do as another poster suggested, and play and buy your pc 12 months back off the bleeding edge. It'll be a lot cheaper and rewarding.

He introduced me to the director of ITS who was sort of gathering up kids who knew web stuff to start creating web apps for teachers.

While working there, I had the opportunity to take one of the full time positions that were created as a result of the need for more of the aps. I chose to finish my cs degree instead.

Near graduation, I went and helpped a secratary work on her website which does football pools. She payed me a little bit of cash for the time, but I then spent about 5 hours gabbing with her, her husband, and her daughter.

After graduating i had sent out a ton of resumes looking for asp web work since I had experience with it. I heard back from no one, and all my followup calls told me the position was filled. Then out of nowhere I got a request for an interview. Turns out the secratary was someone's contact at the university, and when they asked for a cs student, she highly recomended me, which basically got me the job. I just had to show up and not be a jackass.

So here I am two years later doing simulation and modeling. It's programming, and I love it, as well as the people I work with, bosses included.

I am not religous at all, but I would love to see some different themed games. For one, I think the adventure game genera would fit in with their goals nicely. With some good animators drawing some really nice 2d artwork, it could make for a fun game. They could theme it a bible setting, or the garden of eden, or even do a modern story with someone finding faith through some adventures. I don't mind what the message is behind the game as long as it's well written and nicely animated.

Maybe they could invent some sort of sim game where you run a church and have to deal with the same types of things that most church administors have to deal with. That could be interesting, letting you build and expand the church, while trying to run programs that increase the amount of worshipers coming in. You could try to generate aditional income by using different donation collection methods all the way to installing a cell phone tower in your steeple for 12,000 a month. Throw in some events, such as weddings and funerals, and you've got an interesting game.

This could be interesting, but I know it will result in some people making crappy games trying to make a few bucks by using the term "christian" in the title and marketing it as the safest video games EVER for concerd parents.

We've seen that (at least mostly) nonviolent games reach even the "hardcore" market and become very popular. Here's a list of a few of my favorites:

    # the Simcity series
    # Super Mario Brothers
    # Any racing games

Actually, those can all be pretty violent. In super mario brothers, this army of goobas came in and conquored whatever world it was. The imprisoned the princess and held her captive. Mario smashes bricks with his head, then stomps and kills cute little mushroom guys and turtles. He throws fireballs at them and kills them. He solves all his problems with violence, killing his foes whenever he can.

In any racing game, they are not intially violent, but can quickly turn so, ramming into other cars, driving in a reverse dirction on the track, causing 30 car pile ups. But this doesnt force the player to be violent, so i'll give you the racing games.

Sim city's the worst offender. After you build up your city, you can watch floods, fires, earthquakes, and rampent monsters destroying your city on a massive scale. Thousands of people would probably die in these "fun" simulated disasters. Just because you don't see the bodies, doesnt mean they are there. That is usually the case when you see wreckage on tv, you only see the buildings, not the countless corpses laying underneath it all.

Let's just face it, simulating violence and destroying things we built is FUN. But it's still violence at the heart of it.

The one man, one woman thing, is really what turns the guy one. Some people like feet, some people like to crap all over their partners, and some like the fact that their wife is pure and untouched. This guy just has the mistaken belief that everyone wants to think like he does.

My fionce hasn't been with another person before me, and when we are together, the though of her not having been with someone and her being pure and good does not enter my mind at all. I choose to love her for the person she is, and enjoy the moment we are sharing together, and let go and forget about everything else except the two of this. She could have been with 100 different men for all I care, it wouldn't make a difference.

So please, do not tell me my love and intimacy is bs because she could be "unclean".

What's funny, is going to a pre cana (sp?) class as required by the church (i have no faith while my fionce is catholic), some of the couples speaking there mentioned how the first half of their lives married together was bad, emotionally and sexually, because the woman had ben molsested as a child. She said that it wasn't until they had sought counceling that they were able to overcome their problems and have a healthier relationship.

Your time together isnt a secret hidden afair. That just seems to be a hold over from when you were a teen and had to hide from your parents what you were doing. You are an adult now, it's ok to acknowledge that people like to be intimate.

I think it might be excusable in elementry school throw out the ham stories with little moral lessons instead of telling the truth. This is probably because elementry kids are going to have a tough time understanding "adult situations" that might lead to certain events happening. I know the above poster said columbus was sent sailing to so he would stay away from the queen. If I was a 4th grader, I don't know if I would understand what this meant, simply because I wouldn't be able to grasp what it is to be in a relationship and what is invovled in it. I wouldn't really have a good grasp of fear, jealocy or whatever the motivation was to move a person.

But as we go into highschool there really isn't an excuse for it, as kids are old enough to start understanding these things.

But as for the game, if you can stimulate intrest in a subject, it's done a good job. I don't think the game should be part of the class, but should sold as something to do on their own, or made avaialbe for extra credit after school or something.

But a good civ game, where the unit description involves accurate information about the real type of unit, as well as having real historical effects, would do well. But as was said above, europa unvervsalis, victoria, and crusader kings already do a wonderful job of this.
