Newegg has a couple. Unfortunately they don't switch the sound like my current Belkin model does.
My new 20" LCD monitor should be here today and it will have a DVI input. I'm debating the purchase of a DVI KVM because I run dual monitors and switch both of them with two KVMs. I'm going to try out the new beast without DVI and see how it looks before I drop the cash for a new KVM.
What do you mean lack of games? Yahoo Games and PopCap seem to work fine on my Linux box. You mean there's something else?
All joking aside, to most people solitare and sites like these are computer (PC) gaming. At least that is the case for my wife and my mother. I'm sure they are not all that much different than many others.
This is true. And if anyone thinks differently I have a Lego Darth Vader and Emperor looking at me right now that would love to open a can of whoop ass.
FWIW the only reason I went with nVidia for the new computer I recently put together was for their Linux support. I dual boot the machine and I do game in Windows, but I wanted nVidia's proven track record of supporting their hardware with Linux drivers. The Twinview support for Linux is nice too, gotta have my dual monitors in Linux too.
I also wasn't looking for the top of the line vid card so since I wasn't dropping a wad of cash I did't care that I wasn't getting bleeding edge FPS performance.
I understand wanting to cut back, but if drinking a moderate amount of caffiene a day will not cause any health problems for you, why give it up completely? It's not like crack. You can have a little each day and not risk your health.
I drink 1/2 a cup of coffee a day and a can of soda. Yes I get a headache after a day or so if I don't have any caffiene. But I figured I enjoy coffee and I enjoy the soda, so I'll live with the small amount of caffiene. I guess I also enjoy the little pick me up from the caffiene too.
I have had good luck with my ATI TV Wonder VE. Beware that this version of the card is not stereo, but is usually fairly cheap. Mandrake configured it during install with no problems since release 9.0. There were problems with it in WinXP, but those seem to be fixed (update from MS that can be found on Windows Update). It has also worked fine under Win98SE.
I successfully installed and configured a Hauppage card on my dad's WinXP box, but I don't have many comments about it as I haven't used it extensively.
Oh yes. I can't tell you how many times I have heard the sound from the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man used as the game sound on TV movies. Drives me nuts!
And why does every computer on "Law & Order" always beep before displaying results from a database search????
Use it, help others, submit bugs, and tell anyone who cares about it. Join the club when you have the financial means to do so.
I played with Mandrake for several releases before finally joining the club and giving them my money. I guess I felt somewhat guilty, but I also thought they earned it.
I purchased a 2500+ Barton from Newegg earlier this month that is running as a 3200+ at the stock voltage on air cooling. Temps under load are around 40 to 42 C. All that was required was to set the FSB to 200 MHz (200 FSB X 11.0 multiplier). Many people are posting similar results in reviews at Newegg. Also, the multipliers are unlocked from the factory. I don't have any experience with the 2600+, but I'm pleased as punch to have the equivalent of a $315 CPU for $91.
I sincerely apologize for living in these United States and not having to worry about the things you listed. I guess the best thing for my family would be to move somewhere where we can suffer these injustices?
So, your point is what???? I believe my point falls within the relm of this topic.
I'm so surprised you wouldn't put your name to your comment.
The birth of my daughter ten days ago makes me a stay at home dad that occasionally works as a project manager with a local software development firm. My wife is the breadwinner and it made sense for me to be the caregiver.
So what are the costs of this for me and my family?
- Or newest car is almost 6 years old and a new one is no where in sight.
- There is no way we can now afford to move into a bigger house, even though it would be nice.
- I can't afford a boat, personal watercraft, RV, vactaion overseas or pretty much anywhere for that matter.
- I don't have some fancy title or job to brag about to others. My business cards would say "Dad".
I could of course go on. But what I gain is the satisfaction of raising my daughter myself, not some stranger at daycare. I can take her to the doctor when needed, we can go on walks whenever we like, read a book, etc. I don't have the play money I used to and I won't have the "stuff" that that money could buy, but my stress level is SO much lower and I get great satisfaction knowing that I am doing the right thing. I might also add that this situation also makes things much easier on my wife as I can take care of the daily family tasks. She doesn't have to worry about anyting once she gets home from work.
Cell phones causing fires at gas pumps is an urban legend.
http://www.snopes.com/autos/hazards/gasvapor.asp
Rechargable batteries have a very low internal resistance and will dump tons of current very quickly when shorted out. If a poorly constructed battery pack without the necessary overcurrent safeguards is dropped and happens to short out, it is certainly feasible that it could start a fire (as evidently happened here).
Unfortunately the Nokia spokesman's statement comes across a shameless self promotion, but there is some truth to it.
Sounds like you ran into an asshole. Also sounds like you handled it in a reasonable manner. You should be commended.
I understand your frustration and how this probably set you on edge a bit when it comes to amateur radio.
BTW, thanks for clearing up your point in other posts. Although I may not agree with you 100%, I can now see that you have put some thought into your opinions.
Modded +3 for interesting? How can you even argue with views like this? Does the guy in the monster truck plan for pulling out people in snowstorms and organize with other people so he is there when problems arise? I think not. Does he donate his spare time training for these situations?
The hams aren't asking for extra privleges they don't already have (as you mention in your flawed monster truck analogy).
BTW, poor design of a commercial receiver that accepts spurious radio emissions is not the fault of a ham. It is the fault of the manufacturer that built a crappy product. Conter point is that a ham is operating irresponsibly if he does not try to transmit at the lowest power level necessary for communication and doesn't try to eliminate interferance with others.
Don't take this as a flame. I recognize that there are asshole hams out there and I'm not trying to blanketly say all hams are saints. I just think that amateur radio is a valuable service and should be protected. We will need it in the future. You can bank on that.
You have summarized the sentiments I was trying to get across in my post the last time this subject came up (and you did it much better than I did or could).
Ignorant people criticize things they don't understand. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your views) hams look out the ingorant folks too. The people who wouldn't notice if hams were gone are going to be the first ones bitching when the chips are down and you need emergency service coordination or a backup for emergency communications. They will be the ones asking "Why doesn't our government have a backup plan?" Well, despite the best laid plans, backups sometimes fail and our government (local and federal) is notoriously short sited in spending the money for such things (Gee, do I have to give examples of this?) Hams fill the gaps quietly and much better than government ever could.
It is nice to know that hams are covering our collective asses and doing it for free and little to no recognition. As TitaniumFox stated, listen to the local repeater when the next severe storm comes in. You'll get better information quicker than what you ever hear from your local news or on NOAA weather radio. The hams are the ones out there reporting what the talking head on the news station is telling you. The talking head is getting their info from trained spotters who do this work for free to save your ignorant butt. And those trained spotters are almost always amateur radio operators.
Gee, sounds like some of these "hobbyists" may have more to offer the community than most Slashdot posters. (Go look in the mirror).
I'll stop my rant. "73" to those who know what the hell I am talking about.
I won't say ham radio would be useful in some sort of natural disaster. I'll say it IS useful in natural disasters.
Let's see...who is out monitoring storms and reporting severe weather to SKYWARN and NOAA?
Who prepares and runs drills to be prepared when a tornado hits your town? (RACES, ARES)
And how much do they get paid for this? Oh yeah, nothing. Okay, lets piss these guys off, belittle them, and make them feel less appreciated than the already are.
Hams are kind of like lawyers in the sense that they aren't worth anything until you really need one.
Keep in mind that if you live in a large metropolitan area most public service broadcasts (fire, police) use trunked systems. A scanner like this won't help you much when trying to follow any activity on a trunked system. Many even use digital trunking, which you can't monitor at all unless you get a scanner such as the Bearcat BC250D and the optional BCi 25D digital card.
Blocked analog cellular is nothing new here in the US. It really isn't a big deal as fewer people use analog cellular anymore. Most scanners can be opened up to receive the cellular bands, but it usually takes some skill with a soldering iron (I'm not sure if this receiver can be easily modified in this way).
I also have never used P2P software and I also have not bought a new CD in years. I contributed it to me being >30 and becoming an old fogie.
Naah, maybe it really is because the new music out there really does suck. I also don't want to give any of my money to the RIAA pigopolists and indirectly finance their congressional henchmen.
If only Via would be this honest.
KT133 -> Beta
KT133A -> Stable Release Version
KT266 -> Beta
KT266A -> Stable Release Version
KT400 -> Beta
KT400A -> I think you get the picture by now.
Quick check: how many of you bought something online and actually checked the lock icon? While shopping during Christmas?
(Stangbat puts up his hand)
Actually, I don't check the icon. I check that https is in the address bar. Every time I order something.
Every time. Honest. It's not that hard.

If they haven't enforced any patents then what is this?
Just wondering if I'm missing something. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am (and I welcome those corrections).

Getting a golf ball to skip...now that takes talent. Yeah, that's it. Talent...

As if she wasn't already an attention whore. I'm sure she is happy as can be with this new found fame. The AP. Fark yesterday. Slashdot today.

Yes, you are correct. You don't get HF privileges with this class license though (as stated by CobwoyNeal).
Sorry, hit the submit button accidently.
