As the report states, India and China will both be big economic powers partly due to their huge population, but the standards of living won't necessarily be better.
I've been to India 12 years ago and i've been last year, and yes the standards of living have vastly improved, but for it to be at an acceptable level, it definitely won't take another 15 years. My hope is within 50 years (and that's being optimistic).
The definition of free was used 'as in beer' well before 'as in speech'. Just because RMS uses 'free' in such a sense doesn't mean everyone must. Actually it was a mistake of RMS by using the same word (he could have used 'liberal' instead).
As a suggestion, please don't preach such a lecture onto slashdot.
They should have made the program free for everyone and look elsewhere for sources of income. Firefox is gaining market share at a steady pace and if Opera doesn't act now, they'll be out of the game.
The article doesn't mention if this is for GSM or CDMA phones? As i have heard, GSM is a little less harmful. Can someone with a bit more knowledge provide some insight?
Arrrgggghhhh! How could I have so foolishly said The World Wide Web? It's nothing compared to the tasty wholesome lean goodness of a George Foreman Grilling Machine grilled burger!
just don't say it's a novelty item, you'll really piss him off!
He does hold the world record for memorizing 22 random digits in just four seconds
another incredible feat! that's impressive, this guy is a superhuman. seriously, it would take me a good 15 minutes (maybe more) to memorize 22 random digits.
I am including a bootable Live Linux CD in many of my Christmas cards
interesting choice, as i'm guessing at least half the people you send to don't even know what linux is. i'd like to know how this turns out:)
also, my suggestion is you is to include some sort of leaflet into getting them started, do they even know how to boot a bootable CD? just thought i should point this out.
I think these scientists are exagerating a bit, you would need a HECK of a lot of wind farms to actually have an affect. The article didn't talk about this at all, it just made a general statement about the 'large-scale' effects of wind farms.
for those who don't know what phishing is, see the definition
[Phishing] is the luring of sensitive information, such as passwords and other personal information, from a victim by masquerading as someone trustworthy with a real need for such information.
They don't want you getting a driver from some shady site that put a virus in it, and thus giving their company a bad name (at least for dumb-computer-users).
1) most people should know to download drivers from the computer manufacturer / device manufacturer. and if someone wanted to do that, they could without having the source code, just have to put a virus in the installer or reverse engineer the code.
2) i don't think this is the issue here, look how many drivers are in the BSD/linux source code, has this really become a problem? no. will it ever? probably not.
anandtech shows a 1% increase in speed over 800mhz fsb in most cases, is this really something to get excited about? will this difference open up in the future?
wait up a second, are you telling me, that the homeland security agents have nothing better to do than take off a rubiks cube clone? surely there must be something.
"One of the things that our agency's responsible for doing is protecting the integrity of the economy and our nation's financial systems and obviously trademark infringement does have significant economic implications,"
a Rubiks Cube Clone??? Seriously, i could eat a bowl of alphabits and crap a better Bullshit argument.
the real problem lies in the fact that spammers have an incentive to send spam. if nobody would buy penis enlargement pills, accept online mortgages, and order medicine online, we wouldn't have this problem.
one way to combat this problem is look from the other end, we should educate the public and discourage people from doing any business with online sellers. consumers should be suspicious when such emails appear. i personally think this would help reduce spam
Something i would like to mention

Have you heard his new song?
"Fuck Da Protons If You Down With the 'Lectrons"

i have a strong feeling #1 is 'www', i guess it could be internet , but then email wouldn't be on the list

why not use flourescent bulbs, they are a little more expensive, but more efficient than incandescent.
sure LED's are cool, but for $79.95, i wouldn't think of it as an alternative to regular bulbs.
I guess having a sysop reboot is out of the question...
Oh shit, i forgot to rerun 'lilo' before rebooting!
I've ripped most of my CDs onto my hard-drive. Of course the MPAA doesn't know if I own those CDs
well maybe this program has an intelligent way of finding out if those files are in a 'p2p-shared' directory or not. (my guess is probably not though)
they're storing them on a huge cluter of their $200 lindows systems. ;)
if firefox starts to take a good chunk of the market share, IE will have tabbed browsing, if it takes a bigger chunk, IE will have proper png support.
it's time for microsoft to step up and get out of denial, firefox is a viable alternative now.

also a good way to destroy your N'sync posters.
(not that that's a bad thing)

ok, i've never heard of this, but the first google search came up with this page

if you already have a Dremel and cutter (or reasonable knock-off of either/both), then you can just download some patterns.
