(it's illegal, AND we're supposed to pay for those who don't follow the law, regardless what we do ourselves)
We pay taxes which fund police, fire and ambulance services, even if we aren't responsible for the law being broken, the house burning down, and the crazy cat-ladies stroke.
like if it's a normal thing to have to scan your system for spyware everyday in the first place.
It's not necessarily a normal thing to be mugged, but we have police and whatnot just in case it does happen. It's an unfortunate truth that we live in a world where we can't trust one another.
Best to take precautions, even though they wouldn't be necessary if everyone played nice.
UPDATE: William Erwin, now confirmed as the hijacker, has posted news on Methlabs.org, claiming the hijacking news is false and stems from a revolt by former team members.
However, after speaking to the Methlabs team and various connected members of the community, P2Pnet, SuprNova and Slyck can all confirm that the original story that the domain has been hijacked is genuine.
PeerGuardian users are advised to stop using the Methlabs.org and Blocklist.org hosted blocklists in favor of the Bluetack list.
I'd probably believe all of this is true, if it's all lies then the person who is in control of methlabs.org would have already set a libel lawsuit rolling methinks.
I feel it's because they try to think of this technology like any other technology, a blackbox that you push a few buttons and turn a few dials, something that is completely harmless.
Yet these same people manage to operate a gas oven, steam iron, and mechanical automobile most of the time without incident. I don't see why they treat computers with such stupidity... I think it's because they view this intarweb thingy as not exactly real and that it doesn't really affect the real world at all, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, from my own testing, it seems that whenever a stylesheet specifies a font size, IE will always render the font at that size, no matter what you tell it to do. Want bigger fonts? Too bad, the stylesheet says 11px, so 11px is what you're going to get. Meh.
As far as I remember, MSIE will refuse to resize and font specified in pixels, which are considered an "absolute" measurement by MSIE. If you specify the font using any of the relative measurements, such as em, pt, or percentages, then MSIE will resize them. Otherwise it won't.
I have no idea why it works this way, but it does truly suck.
P.S.
Opera resizes not only the text, but everything on the page, including images, essentially "zooming" the whole page in or out.
Also, gifted children often have behavioral problerms which can not be easily diagnosed for what they are.
Who cares if they are gifted or not? A behavioural problem is a behavioural problem, and no-one cares how talented an artist or accurate a programmer the kid is, if he's a trouble maker or not is the issue at hand here.
There shouldn't be special exceptions for geniuses and retards, trouble is trouble.
They can legistlate people producing/distributing this in American, maybe. But they can't stop the rest of the world making it, and the Americans downloading it.
Instead of the clacking, snapping action of buckling-spring keyboards, manufacturers have mostly moved to cheaper, less-complicated membrane keyboards...
And from the specifications of this keyboard they provide a reason:
Das Keyboard makes a quiet clicky and snazzy sound. It does not require the use of ear plugs
ALT+TAB to switch between units. How braindead can a developer be?...
I never experienced that problem myself, but I haven't tried the windows version
Mouse Gestures only to create units. It's slow and thus counterproductive, RTS-nuts will hate it and I have to ask "why?".
I would expect that they were attempting something, you know, new with this game. The last thing I wanted was a C&C clone.
Navigation. WASD only + mouselook and up+down via QE or mousewheel, which works the wrong way around for me. Does the full version allow me to customze that? It's not hard to implement, you know?
The controls worked well enough for a strategy/action combination game, but could have been more configurable.
Graphics, or lack thereof. I could easily accept the bad graphics and models from a freeware game, but honestly, it looks butt-ugly. The Darwinians are sprites! Why exactly does this game require a 3D-Card?
They are supposed to be sprites, did you even read the plot or follow the opening story? As for the pixellation of units etc., that is deliberate. There is an option to "smooth" it all out and make it look nice and curvy.
The highly praised story. Er, excuse me? Story? The original Duke Nukem, Commander Keen and even Doom had more "story", their's usually filled more than one screen... Yeesh, if similar games usually have even less of it...
Sure, the story wasn't amazingly complex or deep, but it suited the style of game. "Strategy" games aren't exactly designed for people expecting rich plot or heavy character development.
Summary: A game that was refreshing, and a great effort by an indy studio. If you think you can do better, make it cross platform, and get it to retail on a small budget (at least in the UK it is retail), be my guest.
u 4got 2 puut "looooool" at da end, roflz kthx
Do you know what would have really made that comment insightful? Some links, or an anecdote, or anything at all of substance backing up what you said.
Just saying is all.

He is a slashdot "editor".
The small "retro" controllers that contain 6-12 games built in that hook up to a TV.
I don't suppose the fact that these cost about a tenner, as opposed to a few hundred quid, had anything to do with it?
Sorry, are you talking about slashdot or livejournal?
Well yes, but then you got the link from a post on slashdot ;)

Sucks though.
You wouldn't run your computer as root, right? Isn't that basically what you are doing when yoiu run BeOS?
Isn't that basically what you are doing when you run Windows XP?
I don't see most computer users even noticing, let alone complaining about the fact they run as Administrator by default.

Apple is perfectly capable of getting their own DRM!

They were weapons, just big WMD's if you will.

But I get what you're saying though.
And it was uphill...
Both ways!

They can't even get spelling and/or grammar correct, what chance do we have for facts?

So much for the World Wide Web then. Is there any single reason whatsoever for, what is essentially, a webpage to be restricted to any one country?
It may please you to know that cromulent is, now, a perfectly cromulent word.
That this review is unbiased?
Not very high, I'd wager.
MPAA/RIAA

So if I, say, cremate someone, who's the man that can undo this?
;)
Just a though.
