  2. Down is fine, but up? on Ramp Creates Power As Cars Pass · · Score: 1

Any hill that is steep enough to warrant placement of a ramp in the scenario that a car would be braking anyway (no net loss to the driver), would be a severe detriment to any vehicle attempting to climb said hill. I can imagine a few places in the United States where placement of these ramps could be beneficial if placed only on the righthand side of a downward slope. Many of the streets in San Francisco and Austin, as they are fairly hilly areas for instance. Also, these cities don't face the obstacles of snow plows or salt on the roads.

  3. missing the point... on Using Cell Phones to Track Traffic · · Score: 2, Insightful

You don't have to be using the cell phone for the cell phone to be used to monitor traffic. There is no hypocrasy here as nobody is promoting talking on cell phones while in traffic. Also, with monitoring such a large number of signals, I find it hard to believe they will be able to simultaneously figure out who is speeding. That would require multiple triangulations on each signal, requiring a much larger infrastructure. We can put away our fears of Big Brother for the moment.

I currently have a subscription to Planetside and a majority of the problems discussed have been long solved. I experience zero lag, and rarely ever find a bug (I've fallen through the terrain once in 3 months). Back when I was a beta tester for the game, things were a different story. I chose not to buy the game when it went retail becaused IMO they were selling people a beta.

The problem with Planetside is two fold. Small playerbase has caused a majority of the game world to be abandoned for most of the time. The core combat expansion created new content and new areas to explore, but did not provide an increased playerbase to populate those areas. The second problem is SOE has not attempted to promote the game to keep an influx of new players coming in.

Rumor has it that SOE is going to offer Planetside through Steam, and if even 10% of Steam users try Planetside, and half of those users subscribe to Planetside, it will double to triple the current playerbase. Quite possibly revitalizing the Planetside community.

These kids laid the smack down on MIT. Their school distric is so underfunded its unbelievable that they even had a robotics program. They are the ONLY school in the distric to offer a marine biology program and thus are considered a "MAGNET" school. Absolutely unbelievable... All of these kids deserve scholarships.

Regular cable was only $15 a month, however you had to get the 'basic' digital package for $40 a month if you wanted high speed. 15. On a different note. on Grumpy Gamer Disappointed By New Zelda Footage · · Score: 0

I think the authors main concern is that innovations in 3D gaming are suffering the same problems as modern suburban 'planning'. Cookie cutter syndrome, sticking with what has worked before, and do it on a mass scale. A lot of suburbanites have looked towards video games as a means of breaking away from familiarity (not to be confused with escaping reality). They grew up in a place where everything was pretty much the same as the next place and video games offered something stimulating. Unfortunately, video game designers are following suit with super contractors and homogenizing with what has worked for them in the past rather than braving new frontiers.

The most common complaints from teenagers in suburban areas is "boredom". They feel far removed from society and lack places to gather and things to interest them because of suburban planning. The same is being seen in video game design. Its causing gamers the same disjointed feeling. We're screaming, "We're bored, take us somewhere else!"

If this follows the model, pretty soon gamers will be committing suicide at an alarming rate and gaming while intoxicated to impress other gamers...

Yes Maxtors have a reputation of being bad drives. That being said, every drive I have ever bought has been a Maxtor and I've never had a failure. It could be that the most popular line of Maxtors suffer from low quality components, and the high end Maxtors (the type I typically buy) are much higher grade. So whereas the majority of Maxtors do indeed suck, it does not necessarily mean I myself would ever have a problem with one.
This is all theory and hyperbole but it would be akin to saying, "A majority of of Intel chips are Celerons and Celerons suck, therefore all Intel chips suck." Bad logic, but very compelling to emotions. People who are critical thinkers would see this flaw immediately. In fact, most critical thinkers would come to the conclusion that Intel sucks on its own merit. ;)

Perhaps if they had some sort of interaction I'd be more satisfied. Secondly long periods of time between save points makes me put a game on the backburner. Real life interrupts more often now that I am an adult. I really do love RPG's, but make them playable without having to sit down for 3+ hours at a time!

Case in point, the last RPG I played was Knights of the Old Republic and being interrupted never set me back more than 5 minutes. Excellent game, short cut scenes, dynamic storyline. What more could I ask for? Well, perhaps Cid and an Airship.

Actual time at 4.5 warp would be well under six minutes. Travelling at 4.5 warp for 4 days would cover much more distance than our little '6 minute' scenario would lead anyone to believe.
