The amount languages and cultures change, you can't just write on it, and even things like skull pictures could be interpreted as meaning "burial chamber - archaelogists, get digging!".
I find it very hard to believe that as advanced and well documented as society is at this point in time there will be many if ANY questions about our current time period. If people today can understand ancient hyrogliphics(sp) then just imagine how much easier it will be in a couple thousands years when our entire history is easily googleable in a matter of microseconds. Language may change but the languages of this generation will never be forgotten. Not that I would give a rats ass if the archeologists of a thousand years from now destroy the universe with a spork powered cheese ray.
Final Fantasy is not the right series for those who want to "be" the main character. They throw you into the lives of other characters. Sounds to me like you would prefer games that let you "create" your character by customizing their look and what not.
Tidus dead? No, but not because he is reincarnated as Vaan. Rather, because there is a sequel to FFX. FFX-2 came out today as a matter of fact. Also if you want to be a chocobo so badly, in more than just a minigame. There are actually chocobo based games. Also FF Tactics lets you play as chocobos.
I'm going by memory on the little details, but the system is as described
Actually you are completely wrong. All post start at zero stars or blank. The system is a 1 to 5 star system where 1 means u r t3h sux0r and 5 means u r0x0r my w0rld. There has often been the misconception that 1 star means people agree a little bit when in reality it means they disagree enough to let you know about it.
Obviously with all post starting at zero it does not work on a threshold system like/. posts are deleted they don't drop below your viewing level.
There has been big issues with the SW:G forums since the start. Perfectly valid posts in the GENERAL DISCUSSION area are getting closed left and right if they complain about bugs or the crappy CSRs or anything like that. They are obviously well aware that public knowledge of what is said in the forums would drastically hurt their game sales, thats why the blocked all non subscribers. The "monthly" updates that are supposed to be continuing the story content are happening far from monthly. It's been what 3 months now, and the first continuation of the original story just came out in that patch yesterday. At first, they were doing a great job, patching and what not, but now they are really slacking off. Once I get my hands on FFXI I'm not so sure I won't be dropping my account.
The GC will be my third console of this generation. I've been waiting because I knew the price drop was coming (now I just gotta get some money). The reason I had bought PS2 and Xbox already is because they have more of the games I like. The GC, however, has VERY GOOD GAMES (just not enough of them). This leads me to think that all these GCs selling will have a much longer term effect than most think. A big part of the success in PS2 is that with so many titles everybody can tell their friends at least five good reasons to buy one. Once a lot more people have GC they will find out how great some of the titles are and then they will be able to tell their friends at least five (they are just slightly more likely to be the same five as everybody else).
Also the more consoles they sell the more third party development they will get. Lets not forget that the next gen consoles are still probably at least a year off. I don't think that GC can catch PS2, but I do think it will surpass the Xbox (unless maybe they price drop or Halo2 bundle). Anyways, the GC is a solid platform with more and more kick ass titles arriving all the time, LOOK OUT M$!
My points are: the price point has not changed all that radically
In your example of the guy who bought one with the player after the price drop yeah you right he was ignorant to the sale. However my point is that to people who don't want the player or one of those 4 games, there is a big difference.
XBox and PS2 still have more offerings out of their consoles to match the price difference. XBox is not going anywhere, PS2 is not going anywhere, and even with developer loses, the GC is not going anywhere.
Here is where I think you were misunderstanding me from the start, because I absolutely agree. Like I said I have had my PS2 and XBox for a long time (PS2 since not long after it came out, XBox not TOO long ago), and I love em. I'm no Nintendork, if anything I'm a Sony Fanboy.
Gamecube has been $99 for awhile, you just had to buy a game or a gamecube player. Nintendo is just now realizing for people to see that, you have to thrust the pricepoint in their face.
Actually it was 150 for the GC with a free game or player, the difference there being that it was a very limited selection of games (none of which did I particularly care for).
specific advantages in the Xbox over the Gamecube...DVD player
Not fresh out of the box.
Oh and I don't know where you're living but it is exactly priced the same as a Gameboy (SP is pretty much the norm) at 99.99
Thats basically what I said...though I wasn't sure about SP price which I why I just said GameBoy (though actually I was thinking GBA, my bad).
Lastly you seem to have missed the point of the entire post. I'm in no way attempting to say that the GC is selling now because it's good (not that I don't like it), I am however saying that the only real reason for the sale increase is that it's cheap (which actually more implies thats it's not all that). Also as I said, my GC (when I get around to buying it) will be my THIRD console. I already have both the PS2 and XboX as well as my computer set up primarily for games.
I'm quite sure I'm not the only one buying the GC as a THIRD system. Though really with a significant price difference the XboX is staying an apple while the GC has become an orange.
With the price now even lower than it was more kids will be able to convince there parents to buy them a game system, especially since Big N is so cute and cuddly. Also I believe you need to consider that this price drop just when live not long ago and many people who already wanted a GC anyways, like me, were holding off because we knew the drop was coming. Obviously when you know something is about to get cheaper you will wait to by it so it's no suprise that sales suddenly took off. I believe that with in a month sales will die back down to what they were or less, as many people who wanted one have no reason to wait anymore.
Also, when already get things get cheaper they ALWAYS sell more. I mean come on this is dang near GameBoy priced now.
I won't deny that US consoles aren't particularly popular in Japan, XboX proves that. However I disagree with the idea that it is cultural. I would in fact say one of the reasons some US games/consoles do as well as they do is because part of Japanese culture is that they are half-obsessed with US culture. This is why we get Engrish all over the place. If a US console isn't doing a very good job supporting the translation of US titles to Japanese and what have you then why buy the console? Nobody wants to get a foreign based console if half the games won't make it to their country.
DISCLAIMER: This Is Just How I See It, Then Again I'm Dumb. Also Not Japanese.
Good effort guys/pat Sony. Personally I think Sony should have one, not just because I'm a Sony fanboy either. Personally like somebody else said a computer computes, so does a PS2. The only difference is that a PS2 have very limited use fresh out of the box. Well actually thats not even true because so does a computer until you put an OS and some other software on it (just like the Linux kit for PS2). Besides my computer was designed to be a game console but nobody would argue that it's not still a computer.
I accidently put this in the one yesterday. Anyways I played Achaea for quite a while. PK is frowned upon unless you have permission, like if somebody griefed you, you can go to somebody in charge and try to get vengence. Basically your class puts you in with a certain group and city, although you have to earn the right to join and therefore don't have to if you don't want to. So anyways it's easy to find some friends.
BTW is RotW supposed to stand for Ruler of the World? Because I trademarked that back in 98.
I would like to see a game like this released to the civilian sector. I'm assuming that this one won't be based on this: help anti-terrorism workers "think outside the box." Most of us aren't anit-terrorism workers.
Now before you start flaming me and talking about 9-11 and GTA causing retards to shoot people let me just say shut it. First of all videogames are a way to do things we wouldn't do IRL without RL consequences. GTA did not cause anybody to shoot anybody, rather it was a convenient excuse. Terrorist are not going to buy this game to learn how to be a better terrorist, it's not like it's that hard anyways.
Simple fact of the matter is that a game like this could be hella fun. You can't let things like 9-11 make it insensitive to create games that deal with the same issues. Lets remember how many people have lost a loved one in a war, and we still have NUMEROUS war based games (many of which attempt to accurately portray the deaths of many soldiers), and I'm not even saying we should have a 9-11 based game.
Lets say you are playing UT or something like that. Generally the same couple of people are always winning. There should be a game mode that you can play that causes the winner to get nerfed or the loser to get a boost of some sort after each match. To use the UT example...say L33TKilla gets 20 frags to your 2. Well before the next match starts L33TKilla gets a speed drop and/or you get a speed boost. This time L33TKilla only wins 20 to 12, make a smaller adjustment or start L4m3M3 off with his weapon of choice. YaY L4m3M3 gets to win one by 2 frags. Everybody still knows who the better player is, plus both still get to be challenged. L33TKilla will eventually lose, but L4m3M3 still has to try hard and once he gets that win he will have less of an advantage and has to try even harder.
Aside from that MMORPGs are completely fair because even a novice can level cap eventually, these games are less RL skill and more even in nature. Also I enjoy the fact that their are griefers in MMORPGs, it helps me RP because there would be jerks if you actually lived on Tatooine too.
As another poster said everything I have read, some of which claims to be official, says XII will be single player. As far as the future of FF goes we will see, based on the success of XI. Personally from what I've heard it seems many FF fans may not buy XI. Personally I'm buying two, one for PC and one for PS2. I don't want to wait for the PS2 release to start playing it, but I am buying that version as part of my collection (also for the HD). So basically if the FF fans don't abandon XI without giving it a chance we will likely not see another FF MMORPG. Also the fact that they are making other MMORPGs means they can make sequels to those or expand in other ways than using the FF series (which is always risky).
No, because the gamer would be too busy outside playing Boktai until the sun goes down -- at which point they would swap to Disgaea:)
The person arguing about stuff on Slashdot clearly doesn't have enough games;)
thats a damndable lie!!! they won't let me play games at work but nobody seems to care/notice if i/. all day.
Appearently Nokia doesn't understand that most sane people don't want to talk on giant crappy looking things. First a taco then this new atrocity, a laptop phone? (and no I don't mean a peripheral I mean holding a laptop up to your head and talking) Besides regular phones are getting more and more PDA like all the time, storing to do lists, memos, etc why don't they work on improving that?
That should really be Doctor Who's Comeback. I had to read it like five times before I figured it out, then again I'm dumb.
Anyways I remember the first time I watched Doctor Who, which is still on sci fi night on PBS btw, I was like WTF?!, but after watching a whole episode I thought it was the tre magnifique. One of these days I need to find it on DVD as well as the Red Dwarf series.
Well I know Nintendo is gonna sell at least one more console because of that drop, to me. Already got xbox and ps2, gotta catch em all yanno. As far as xbox is considered, I deffinately think mine was a good purchase. Also if you are interested in online console gaming xbox is the way to go. Oh, and I deffinately agree that this is no suprise, and in fact not/. worthy.
Unless you live in a pretty big city it's hard to even find somebody on a MUD or MMOG that lives remotely near you. I also don't consider talking on the phone or IM outside of game RL either. Furthermore I'm not saying that people don't make RL friends in these type of games, instead I'm saying I don't think most people play the games looking for friends. I also have several RL friends that I play SWG with and while we chat in game, we stay in our rooms sitting in front of our computers rather than doing anything together. This isn't social interaction to me.
Also let me just say that one of the things that draws me to the MMOG world is that I like machines far more than people, on the main. Obviously I'm not the most healthy social creature myself, I just tell it like I see it.
On a final note I will say that I think many people can interact far more online that in RL, due to their personalities. I do not however consider this health social interaction.
They're more concerned about making good games, profitably
Exactly. If Big N dropped outta the console market and stuck to making great games we could get all the other more unique games on both xbox2 and ps3. People seem to think that fewer consoles is a bad thing, but if you can still get all the games you just saved yourself a couple hundred bucks not having to buy that 3rd console.
On a side note, people tend to think I have something against Nintendo. I do not. I simply think that Nintendo is better at making games then consoles, and the GC is keeping some of the other 3rd party games off of playstation and xbox.
While the GC is primarily a vessel for first party games (here is a good opportunity to mention they should go the way of Sega) they need the other games to get people to buy the system to play the first party games. If you get what I just said good for you, if not lets try this again. Many people, myself included, didn't buy a GC because while we may like SOME Nintendo games we couldn't justify buying the cube for the few first party games that weren't too cutesy or whatever for us. I am however buying a cube now that the price is so low. Anyways basically what I'm trying to say is the GC does not make a good system for those who only want one system, because of the lack of third party support.
/me remembers the soundbyte topic of the other day and thinks SEGA.
Not that I don't think the whole thing is fake anyways, but like I said no way should that bastard be alive. Thanks for the translations. Of course I openly admit that if it is real I will buy it regardless of how much of a dissapointment it is simply because it says FF on it.
Yeah thank God on the Greatest Hits. I didn't wanna pay 60 bux for Chronicles, like the few places I could find it were charging.
