You may or may not have noticed that Sephiroth was portrayed in the picture. If this is indeed Sephiroth and is not a flashback and the game or movie or whatever does indeed take place two years after FFVII I will be SOOOO pissed. Then again it would be really easy for them to piss me off with something like this, or really easy to make me cream my pants.
On a side note, why is it that flamebait directed towards FF is rarely modded as such?
For starters let me say I've been playing SWG since about 3 weeks after it's release for on average 5 hours a day. That said I will attempt to refrain from using that as too much of an example because it hasn't really been around long enough for too many people to get to know each other yet.
Now for my point: Nobody cares that people on MMORPGs are real (your example on DAoC was a freak occurence between morons, IMHO). That is to say that if you could create a game "smart enough" to have the NPCs act like other players nobody would care that they aren't real. In fact, I believe that most people would rather not associate in game characters with RL people as it detracts from roleplaying. The purpose of an MMORPG is to allow you to do and be things you can't normal do and be. Therefore you don't want to think about that orc/wizard/wookie/whatever being some fat loser in his parents basement.
I would also say that fighting/racing/sports games I could go either way, but generally play alone. I would possibly give merit to the idea that MMOFPS games are social in that they are often played at LAN parties or at least with people you know. However, I prefer not to play these games against people I know, because should I frag somebody 15 times in a row (not that I could, I suck at these games) I wouldn't want to have to hear them bitch about it, especially once the game is over. *badeep badeep badeep* thats all folks.
I agree that $40 game prices are standard and therefore not a Big N issue. Aside from that pay no attention to the Nintendork. Yomiko has issues with Sony (I think a big wig there mollested him) so he tends to look past the fact that for every good game on Nintendo there is at least one on Playstation. This is due in part to the fact that Playstation has far more games out, so obviously there is plenty of crap. People seem to always think however that the amount of games for Playstation is somehow a bad thing. I stick to my story that there cannot be one console to rule them all, thus I must have them all. Now that Nintendo has dropped their price I can have them all, and eat them too.
For the record me and Yomiko are good friend in RL so obviously all flames are allowed in my contract.
MMORPGs can be used as research for future living standards
You make me curious. Are you saying that a person would do this research by theirself for theirself or that you could somehow get people to use an MMORPG in such a boring fashion as to gleam anything worth researching from it?
I'm not tryin to put down your thought or anything, I'm geniunely interested.
Thats just plain rude. You really outta watch who you go callin French you could get beat down for that. I'm American through and through, I'm even in the military tryin to protect this country. Besides we all know the French don't use cleaning products and deodorant.
all games in the future will have online play, as it becomes easy enough to implement that it doesn't have to take away from single player modes of the same game
I disagree. I think there will always be games that do not require online play for a number of reasons
I didn't say the games would require online play only that it would be an option. Also I didn't really mean to say "all" so much as most.
I didn't mean to imply that getting older doesn't have anything to do with. The more lightning storms you live through the more chances you had to get struck by lightning too. As far as pollutants I wasn't talking rates, lots of places have very low pollution. I'm thinkin more along the lines of the types of pollutants. Also things like fast food, SCO, RIAA, and other things that aren't good for you. I'm also not talkin specifically about cancer. Finally, once again I'm not sayin that age has nothing to do with it, though people live longer in part due to better medicines, but rather that there are likely other things contributing.
I'm Heath7 what do I do what do I do? I'm freakin out over here. Yanno it's quite funny that they tried to trace me by my handle considering how many kazaa@k-lite.com people I see all the time. Does regular kazaa not allow for multiple people with the same name? Aren't there also just plain easier ways to do this, or did I misunderstand.
-disclaimer- I'm obviously not really Heath7 *wink*
Parent: Now you can +play+ this game if your blood sugar is correct!
Perhaps it would be more effective if you made it so that it couldn't be detached from the gb and if your blood sugar sucks you don't get to play your regular gb games. Evil, but more effective.
As capabilities of computers and software increase MMO games are, of course, getting better and faster and blah blah blah. I truly believe that nearly all games in the future will have online play, as it becomes easy enough to implement that it doesn't have to take away from single player modes of the same game. Also with MMORPGs as things get more advanced options will continue to increase to the point where you can play them as an Action/Adventure game, have impromptu vehicle races, focus on buildin homes; buying furniture; and social interaction of SIMs, or of course roleplay. To an extent you already can, and I believe these games will continue to become more all inclusive. I'll shut up now.
my cousin died of cancer when she was only 17. Likewise you can get Alzheimer's before 60. I think there is a lot more to more people getting all sorts of diseases besides dying before they have a chance. For starters I would look at how much more chemicals are in our air, and some of the things we use; cleaning products, spray deodorant, etc.
I remember when gas use to cost 75cents a gallon. Videogames are actually getting cheaper when you think about it. As inflation goes up videogame prices don't. Consoles are deffinately cheaper. Finally now with this price drop I will have all 3 consoles. Not that I don't have too many games to play right now already.
whoever modded this redundant missed my point. the similar post was saying that they should find a balance between the two. my point is more that they should continue to make each type, there should be open ended, linear, and mixed games available. in other words game developers should clone less and make more variety of videogames, bring back survival of the fittest. not that this will ever happen.
Should more games aspire to be "virtual sandboxes," inviting the player to run amok and experiment as much as possible? Or is there still something to be said for the tightly scripted, carefully contrived, more-cinematic gaming experience?
-Or and the answer to both questions is YES. More this more that AND more of the other. The more games and types of games the better. Who's craptastic idea is it to suggest we should pick one OR the other? DIVERSIFY!!!
I play ALL types of games, there is not a genre I don't like so don't try and make me pick. That is like when your g/f says you hafta pick between me and your best friend, that is gay.
Not everybody out there wants or needs the same games you like. As was said they have all the games they really want. As soon as the GC drops (note to original poster: probably as soon as they stop offering the free game at the end of this month) I'll have the three major systems, but I like a wide variety of games and spent a vast amount of time playing them. Not everybody is a hardcore gamer. Telling people they need to upgrade when they are happy with what they have is silly. You don't buy a new car when you love the one you have do you?
You people keep talking about how they could just enter this information into a search engine (as if something that convenient really exists), do you not realize that this will be one more thing to say is evil about those things that the famicom is used for that I shall not mention.
Well these strangers I meet online and hold IM conversations with I would probably never meet. Another reason I prefer IM is because normally I'm already on the computer using both my hands and trying to talk on my little bitty cell (the only phone I have) without my hands is too much of a pain, and I don't use it enough to justify buying a headset. I am also generally having multiple conversations at once which would otherwise not be possible. Also when I am talking to people who know each other as well as me we can all chat with each other at the same time and still pop up an IM for something private. Best of all, almost everybody I know online is a long distance away and even with free long distance on my cell it still consumes minutes and they can't call me as many of them don't even have long distance (specifically most of my family). So for people like me in situations like mine IM is ideal.
If you had a family like mine you would understand. Around holidays if you don't hold 10 conversations at once you won't be able to be involved in any. I personally prefer doing things over a computer when I don't know the person that well. Strangers make me nervous but on the computer I am relaxed and more myself. I also like that I can type faster than most people I talk to, little ego booster LoL. The only thing I don't like about chatting (the computer kind) is when I get into an argument. Even as fast as I type I can still flame faster in person (note in person not on the phone, I hate the phone).
To the phantom I say yes, though it's not a second chance because I never said or heard anything bad about it. Only comments being that phantom, as it's name suggests, will never be seen...ghost-ware?
To N-Gage I say fook oof. You taco shaped, overpriced (even for a cellphone, honestly where are you people buying your phones), battery removal requiring craptastic POS.
Nobody wants to watch a batch of geeks staring at their monitor while twitching every so often. Nobody wants to watch others play the game when they could play just as easily
I do, and I doubt I'm the only one who does. People would want to watch for the same reason we watch professional athletes, we CAN'T do it ourselves. Sure most wouldn't care to watch people at the same level as ourselves play games but it is plenty cool seeing people pull l33t moves in games that we suck too much to pull off. So you to you saying we could play just as easily I say nay.
About a month ago a friend of mine bought FFX for 17 dollars, and I wanted to pick up Kindom Hearts but it was still 50. I was quite annoyed as he has insane luck. Turns out he had to take it back, and now KH will be 20 soon. Take that *name witheld*!!!
Also it's quite the coincidence that me and said friend were discussing this very incident yesterday.
The problem with originality is that something can only be original the first time. It is my opinion that by the year 2010 nobody will ever have another original idea. It will all already have been thought before. Also I wanna mention that people worry entirely too much about being original and unique to the point that they sacrifice fun for originality. Doesn't matter to me if a game is sequel number 69 as long as it still has new content and is fun.
It is for some of us. Stupid UCMJ.

have you seen what it looks like talking on one of those things? Like...an...ass.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. Oh yeah and lets not forget the alternate dimensions with people identical to you.
Originality is so unoriginal.
