I watch all my movies on my ps2. I most deffinately did not buy it because it plays dvds. One of these days when I can move off base and outta the dorms I'll be buying a dvd player, but only in the sense that I'll be buying a reciever so I can get some surround sound and what not, and it will more than likely have a dvd changer. I would actually have a different dvd player already if I wasn't so cheap, because I hate having to swap between the game I'm currently workin on and movies all the time.
Disclaimer: I own an x-box, which is NOT a dvd player (pet peeve but we won't go there), and after the price drop I'll be buying a cube. I mention this to say that games are my priority and therefore dvd functionality doesn't influence me in the slightest.
No but it's actually on my current list of books to buy or borrow. And for the record I'm not saying that nobody has ever thought about, discussed, or even participated in something like this before.
You are all missing the point. What could be a very interesting conversation on whether this could ever happen, how, why, and does the government secretly keep tabs on people who kick ass at war-games, has become "prove it". It is quite obvious this game is a load of crap but the real point is What If?
That being said I'm going to get this topic on the right track whether you like it or not. First of all I don't think the government does keep track of who has the highest scores at contra. With the way games are today they prove nothing about real world abilities. There are plenty of fat people who couldn't shoot a real gun straight if their life depended on it, but they could ownz joo at Counter Strike. I actually think it could potentially be useful for agencies like the NSA, CIA, ETC to test peoples logic skills with puzzle games, though most of these are a console thing and therefore would be hard to collect data from people who don't come to you.
In the future, if virtual reality ever becomes a reality, and there are very realistic FPS and strategic combat games I wouldn't put it past big brother to monitor the l33t and attempt to recruit them. [disclaimer] I might be insane, I've been playing alot of Polybius lately. [/disclaimer]
As you no doubt know they plan to add entire new professions, such as: politicians; police; and will probably be adding a vehicle elite to artisan among others. What I hope is that they will increase the number of skill points so that people can broaden there characters horizons. I can see good reason behind limiting the skill points, but with all the elite professions to pick from I think 250 is pretty low. Does anybody think they should get rid of the limit altogether?
But...would we in the US get in trouble for building such thing? "It could be used to train terrorists". Life used to be fun...
We can still have knives and guns, those could train terrorists too. Hell I could train somebody to kill people with an egg beater. The government can't just go around making things illegal and what not just because it COULD be used for naughty things.
HALO. No I know you are thinkin wtf are you talkin about buddy it wasn't particularly great. Well thats because I'm talking about the after the ending ending aka Red Vs Blue. It's ok I forgive you for doubting me.
If nanaki lives then surely some people could too don't ya think. Did you totally miss out on all the happiness in the ending? There is not much happiness when everybody dies. The only real thing that happend is the planet was healed. It's really great and yet annyoing because there is no explanation of what became of anybody but nanaki, though a direct sequel is rumored ala FFX-2. A sequel would rule, as this is still my favorite game.
I have been playing SWG quite alot in the weeks since I got it. When you first start the game the missions aren't important for anything more than making money, because you are busy getting exp in your preferred area. The fun from the game comes from mastering whatever profession you choose. If your character is a fighter of some type then you can have a lot of fun with the factions in PvP or just getting large groups together and storming an enemy base. The problem is you can only work in your profession for a certain amount of time before you stop advancing. I believe the people who were with the game from the beginning and have mastered their trade were getting bored with just doing their job.
What exactly is the point of money in a game that is no fun to play? you ask. That is a rather irrelevant question because this game is immensely fun. The thing is that while earning the money may not be all that fun to everybody, spending it is.
None of this really matters though because they added many new missions that should keep people entertained for a while. They have been doing an excellent job trying to keep this game on track. They have already done alot with this game and some of the patches they are making could easily sell as an expansion.
I'm gonna shut up now because I totally ranted like a demented fanboy.
First of all on a mildly OT note, when I first saw this I thought it was about actors making sure they aren't put into crappy games (the matrix folks outta be pissed), which is something I think I'd worry about these days if I was an actor. What with all the movie/game mingling and all. Also I'd like to mention that a crappy movie can make a game look bad as well *coughTombRaidercough*.
Now as far as what this article is really about. I think that this could be a good thing. In order to make less crappy game based movies and movie based games the developers and directors need to communicate better, and as the article points out they don't really speak the same language. Anyways if game devs have more say in the movies and directors have more say in the games (not that it help enter the matrix) they should be able to create better mingling media without everybody saying character x would never do something like that. Just my $0.02!
It is rediculous to call that guy a game addict by any stretch of the imagination (according to the article). When you consider the thousands of people, myself included, who load SWG or EQ or something as soon as they get home and play into the wee hours of the morning, nine hours or less a week is nothing. I'm quite sure I'll play more than nine hours of SWG tomorrow. I might expect this kinda crap from CNN but I thought we knew better on/.
This is of course assuming he told the truth about how much he plays.
Know so much and yet know so little? Scientist think they know tons of things about this universe and yet nobody can prove or disprove the existence of aliens. How can you see a bajillion miles into space and not be able to zoom in on some hot alien chick in the tub on Venus? Doesn't it seem odd to you that they would know how we came about and how we will end without knowing if we are alone? On a final note, this is intended to be both funny and insightful and damn well better get modded as such.
The problem with Nintendo is not that it doesn't have good games. Nintendo makes some of the most fun and innovative games there are, regardless of your age. The problem is that the only people making good games for GC is Nintendo. All the cross platform games suck on GC and very few of the 3rd party developers make anything decent with Nintendo in mind. I especially know you hate this comment Yomiko, but it needs said...Nintendo should do what it does best, that means Game Boy and making great games. They should bail out of the console wars and PROFIT!!! off the success of the PS2 and X-box. Metroid would look sw33t on the X. Oh and your comment about 90% of the other guys games being rated M is absolute crap sports games or no.
You all seem to be missing the point. I keep seeing over and over how you say that the rich people would have teh l33t characters. Only problem is nobody would buy the stuff these people are selling because nobody would be there to play the game, they would all just be tryin to make some money. If you suddenly made it legal and even encouraged players to sell in-game items suddenly everybody would be selling and there would be nobody to buy. Then again what do I know?
I want you all to know that I already have the patent pending for tinfoil cell phones. Also to those of you who say things like "You could always just leave your phone at home" have you forgotten the point of having a freaking mobile phone man. Before you know it everybody will using this with out the approval restrictions and your phone will not only have a tracking device but also a tiny camera and their watching you, always watching you. AHHHHH!!!
Please remember just because your paranoid that doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!!!
what are they gonna put a fricken track ball as the middle button? besides my mouse already does that if you click the middle button. not to mention that fewer and fewer webpages need to be horizontally scrolled anyways. they are probably going to charge 10 bux more for it and make ie require it to work. spooty spoot heads.
You have made an incredibly discovery there. It is quite perplexing how an event that happend last month was covered on CNN two years ago. Does this mean CNN can see into the future? The world may never know. @$$|-|@7
Essentially it sounds as if his crime isn't one that he committed but more like one that he could have committed. Why should it be illegal to sell pr0n to adults in any format in the vecinity of children? I should be able to run an arcade that sells comic book pr0n as long as I keep it away from the kiddies.
I have seen many a sperm & split (thats kum & go to most of you) across the street from schools. While they sell things more along the lines of Playboy and Penthouse I wouldn't see any reason for the to not sell it in comic book form. Hell if the'll sell comic pr0n on an Air Force Base they should be able to sell it anywhere.
Does anybody have more information about the crime for which he is being charged? I'm not finding anything from that first link, and I'm wondering whats wrong with adults selling adult comics to other adults, be they undercover cops or not.
pay a dollar to download a each and every song over kazaa.
1: Spend $1,000,000 recording a cd
2: Sell 10,000,000 copies of every good song, and 2,000,000 of all the crap ones for $1 a piece
3: PROFIT!!!
This numbers may be under or over inflated but it's easy to see it could be BIG MONEY, that could be used for creating new more horrible torture devices, for the RIAA. Then again what do I know?
(Disclaimer: I did not RTFI)
I don't see why anybody would pay for news on the internet. As long as you can hit yahoo, msn, cnn, and countless other free news sources, not to mention googling for specific topics, I don't see a reason to pay for it. I highly doubt even the subscribers here at/. are here for the news, but rather the discussion it generates. The only way I see something like this working is if he makes it "News for Stock Brokers. Money Matters." Even then I doubt this kind of thing would work.
Is post apocalyptic strictly, the weapons are fake but for the most part realistic. There are mutants, but it all strives to make you think this sort of thing could actually happen. So I would say that in this context at least fantasy is anything that doesn't aim for realism. However, I would also say that Star Wars is fantasy regardless of the context. Sorry if I was a jerk in the previous post.

I don't know who Castillo-Rivera is but he certainly isn't Jesus Castillo, and he is in quite a bit more trouble than dirty magazines can get you.
