Maybe you have been watching TOO MUCH "2001 A Space Odyssey", but I belive HAL 90... Rosetta will not be so smart as they say. Mayber their conception of "think" is different from everyone's else.
I don't belive they are completelly skilled. I would pay to see one of these VB virus writers to build an application which can improve our OS's or Networks.
Like the elders say it takes 10 years to a three grow but only 10 minutos to take it down. It's the same with computer virus.
there are a lot of foreign people who can't be there to watch the presentations, so I would like to know if some speech/talk will be recorded (in video or just the audio maybe) and have it avaliable on the net for those of us who are not in Europe download it and enjoy this meeting too.
"I don't find that being really up on all the latest technology ever does me any good."
Indeed.
I am at the 6th semester of Computer Science and I see a lot of guys who got low grades and don't know even how to code really basic programs looking for top computers. I belive all they want is to play games.
Personally I don't need a top-ultra-fast box to get my programs working or improve my programming skills, and even get some fun (ie. MUD).
Of course if you work with production servers, high definition graphics or movies you need power machines, but regular and ordinary users who only surf on the net, compile some code, edit some texts don't need that all IMHO.
I belive the main reason WMP will be used is that Microsoft have offered some "advantage" fearing the Linux and Free Software menace.
By the way, the sitcom that produced "The Normal Ones" is the 5th bigger TV company over the World, "Globo Organizations". That might have influence on the case.
I belive the major achievement for Brazilian Cinemas is that we'll got the movies faster than it is usually done. Sao Paulo and other few state capitals are the only one who plays the Movie along with the premiere release.
I live in Marilia (about 400Km from Sao Paulo City), a city with a population of 200.000 and some movies takes 2 or 3 months to get here. Digital Cinema will short this waiting time.
I live in Brazil and about two years ago I had to set up a network on a farm located in the hinterlands of Brazil. They had a quite good Internet link for Brazilian standards.
For an international reader the state of eletronic voting in Georgia [the country] is so interesting as in Georgia [the US state], that's why is good to clarify. Both have the same importance level.
but at freenode a guy said he downloaded the source in one of his company computers and on the other day the admin/root got an e-mail from Microsoft with a warning and the IP which did the illegal download.
As one have already said here, the best thing to do is to stay away from that file.
all parents tell they children that when they'll grow up they'll be doctors. Of course they say that thinking about how a doctor can make and not on how important and honorable (at least it was) to be a doctor.
Several Med. freshman are not worried about saving lives and helping people, just to get out of the hospital with a Mercedez in the way to their house in the beach. Sometime they say that it is expensive because they had to study for 10 years to be a doctor... give me a break... Some people study during all their lifes and don't make the money some surgeons make in a couple of days.
It is important to observe that OS is different from FS. I think that the main idea behind Open Cola relies in the Free Software, since this movement cares more about Freedom (inside the software environment and outisde of it too).
... here in Brazil. Since the 80's the Brazilian Govt. have implanted a project called Pro-Alcool and since then millions of car (a good slice of the total ammount) is runned by Ethanol. It is cheaper (at lease here because we have a huge ammount of sugar cane planted), it is less polutive but isn't that efficient at all... You still have to use some fossil fuel (like gas) to start the engines.
Thinkgeek is indeed the best geek store ever, but if you ask me it is lacking a female geek, that would be my gift choice for Valentine's Day. Maybe I should try to buy one online from Russia...
I belive they won't but you can request that to your University or some Academic Fundation. Don't try to make it sound unavaliable for people so take it as an reason to stop hosting such events in Brazil. US and Europe hosts tons of events per year and I don't see any brazilian complaining or asking US Govt. to fly he out there, and belive, it is easier for an US Citizen came here to Brazil (since US$ 1,00 is about R$ 2,95) than a brazilian go to US, not only by economics reasons but getting a visa to enter US isn't very easy for a brazilian.
Brazil doesn't host a lot of events like this but when it does the people should be glad to see how the Free Software is growing and getting strong in the 3rd world countries.
As a brazilian myself I'm glad to read about another great event like this one here but I don't know if the Brazilian policy to collect US citizens fingerprints and data will disturb the situation.
Richard Stallam for example have already said that he won't come to Brazil (unfortunatelly). Most of all I would like to watch his speech live, but I think it will be performed in a VHS type (if any).
A friend of mine was in Cuba a few years ago, and he says it's a great place.
Cuba really is a great place but we have to remember that there are two Cuba's: one for the people and one for the tourists.
Cuba indeed have the best medical system and assistance in the world and an astonishing education system as well, of course there are restrictions and some citizens don't like to live with those restrictions, but I see the benefits as the 'payment' for those restrictions. Don't we (who live in the fully capitalist world) have restrictions too in the name of our safety and of that we think worth ?
Here in Brazil the prices are high. I pay R$120,00 reals (the brazilian currency, equivalent to US$40) for a 256k/256k cable modem service with several ports (http, ftp, telnet, ssh) closed for serving.
The 300k/300k DSL service arround the country are about that price too, and they are pretty restrictive (3gb down / mo.).
Looking at the minimum salary of Brazil (about US$90) you can conclude that this is really a high price: more than 50% of the paycheck that more than 70% of the Brazilians get.
You don't know the brazilian (actually most are koreans) street tech sellers... the most famous street here (St. Ifigenia) can be a very dangerous place if you are not used to go there...
I've heard even about a 'fair' in Brasilia (Brazil's Capital) that when you buy something you better to get out of there very fast before you get robbed by the SAME person who sold you the product...
RIAA could try to fight this guys to show if they got balls...

I was up to say that. After that new 2.0.40 release I have started beliving in life after death.

In Brazil (at South and Sao Paulo mainly) Linux is gaining ground. Conectiva Inc. is a good example, as well all Brazilian Federal Universities

Some concepts must be reviwed.
I enjoy open music, I can even pay for it.
The FreeNode Radio play open music once or twice a week.
I personally love Twenty-Two and Elly K

Just correcting, RMS does Free Software, not Open Source. There are some serious differences between these two movements.

If you don't have an arcade and still want to play the the 'original' ones you can easily emulate it with Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.
For Unices there is the XMAME port, which do a great job.
... this is with the String Theory ?
