Europe is indeed a very different market, but the situation you discribe is not wholy accurate.
In Europe Ps2 is indeed king (like the rest of the world), even more so than in the US, but less than in Japan. However, Nintendo and XBox have an equal share of the market, when measured in sales alone.
However, as GC has a different market (younger) than the PS2 and Xbox, so you can't really compare it to those two.
The PS2 and the XBox however are in exact the same market (12-24), and both want to be the cool console. Thing is, Xbox suffers from a) Way to big controler, (even the small version is too clunky) b) Bad microsoft name. Those 2 things combined will make it very hard for an MS console ever to be truly cool.
Ah, your right on one thing: explorers & campers would find it handy.
But as for sunshine: The sun shines anyway and it'll power up your solarpanels anyway, whether it's actually 'sunny' weather or not.
I guess that either Apple doesn't actually wants wma on iPod themselves (for business/tech reasons) or,
they've been forced to by a certain company which have expressed their dislike of the plan.
Either way, there isn't all that much music in wma format anyway online, except other than the iTMS rivals stores...(!)
I know that was a joke...but.
What if they actually GPL'ed all their stuff ( by accident or other means) and the source got out...
Could they revoke it?
Even though it is an impressive list, you can still only test for the 5% of the webbrowsing population. The rest use IE 6, 5.5 & 5 (an yes, they all have their own quirks which is, quite frankly, a massive pain in the backside)
On windows, there is now a way (http://www.skyzyx.com/downloads/) to have all of those on one machine. In addition, the gecko rendering engine is there. The only one missing is khtml, so if that'd be ported you'd make quite a lot of webdevelopers happy.
PS. On Linux, the same applies as Mac, but you might get wine to work with the stand-alone IE's.

Let me just add that actually practicly ALL (prof) sites were handcoded before NS 4.7...
And VI, ha ! Notepad, sure, Gedit or whatnot, but no Vi (or Emacs) for that matter was necessary.
As the parent poster, I too have been developing websites since 1996 BY HAND, and since 1994 with good ol' Netscape Composer. (version 3 Gold, if anyone cares)
(At the end it even links to http://www.mozillaquestquest.com/, which, in their own words: After much soul searching we have decided to shut down MozillaQuestQuest. In our opinion we cannot compete with MozillaQuest's content for humour value.
From the International iRiver Site (North America lags behind):
[Notice] Progress of OGG Support
First of all thank you for your support and showing your interest to iRiver. iRiver would like to make an announcement about the OGG Codec.
Plan for supporting OGG files: There are many customers who are wondering if iRiver would ever support OGG file formats. Technically, it is difficult to play an OGG file from a portable audio device. There is currently an OGG Codec available (only for non portable players) on www.xiph.org. According to this site, the Fixed Point version source "Tremor" is required to make an OGG Codec. This version is not optimized for Embedded (or portable) audio devices. To insert this Codec in the iRiver MP3 player, the size of source needs to be reduced by half. It is possible to reduce a source about 10 to 20% without making any major changes. Unfortunately, it is impossible to reduce the size of the source by 50% without changing the algorithm of the source. Since OGG file has been recently developed, there is not enough information or research result available to modify the algorithm of the source. iRiver is currently researching and developing a Codec that would allow OGG files to be played by a portable player with two side companies. Please wait patiently and iRiver will update you the research and development process of the new Codec.
Just leaves your hand in perfect shape for the other good use... ..sax.
/.'er... ;)
What? You were thinking something else than Saxophone? You dirty minded
Who knows...maybe your slashdot karma is too low ;)
Oh, and you should try this blogger login page
I bet Real doesn't like the idea of Apple not supporting their format.
Hmmm...nahhhhhh
or...ya think?
Didn't you get the memo?
It's now the KDE Kracker Klan

Maybe, just maybe, we live there because it's our place.
Just like people live in the Northpole or something.
And anyway, living below sealevel is easy: just live. The dykes take care of the rest.

1) Most (good) gadgets run for several days, you can power them up during the night
2) When you're out walking, you'd want to USE the damn gadget, not recharge it.
3) Is the jacket durable enough? Aren't solarcells a bit weak to be worn all the time?
I repeat, slashdot readers are morons.
As, if you'd read properly, I have actually said:
Apple might not want it on their iPod
(notice the slightly different name)
And, that there was a slashdot article, not too long ago where Microsoft said it didn't like the move.
I repeat, slashdot readers are morons.

The world will collapse.
That's what you get if you use CowboyNeal as an anchor.

My chance of 15 seconds of fame are compeltely lost, and it'sm all your fault!
Dear Faithfull Employee,

See you on the flipside,

I think it's really great that both Vojtech & Miguel actually take the time to inform the unwashed hordes on Slashdot.
Thank you both very much =)

Hey man, it has MMX...should be fast.
I said: "Good thing I have an iRiver Discman"
For those not in the know, iRiver Discmans are multi-codec (mp3/wma) and have upcoming OGG support!
Feature match:
Plays mp3 & wma, with OGG support shortly on it's way
CD's can "sync" with just about anything
Upgrades keep coming out, even for older players.
No song manager needed, but the remote (of the discman) has _exelent_ navigation
Built-in FM tuner. (The remote is the antena actually ;)
Ok, so it doesn't record from FM, big deal.
It can plug into car stereo, boom-box, etc. as long as you have the right cable ;)
Embraces the 'looks damn good, must have it' community (The player's just plain sexy)
And, importantly:
REALLY REALLY light and small! Very portable, unlike a big HD player.
Battery life is excelent. 5+ hours with just the discman, 8+ with battery stick (tube for 2x AA)
Oh, and did I mention: It's top notch design!
PS. I'm talking about my wine red iRiver iMP-400 SlimX II, but the newest one, the iMP-550, is even better.
