Apple - a world wide company with offices, manufacturers, suppliers, and facilities scattered through out the world.
eBay - A company built from a script a guy wrote to sell Pez dispensers, ie a building with a bunch of servers and programmers.
What advantage does a Lear jet offer to eBay? How often is Meg Whitman traveling to 3 different foreign countries in the same day?
I'm sorry I just can't picture a jet being useful to eBay (so its just a toy), whereas I can picture Apple sending a team of people to check up on operations at several different facilities scattered around the globe.
Basically I'm just jealous, cause I want a jet too dammit!
Microsoft is considering paying dividends on its stock.... that would net Mr. Gate$ a cool $100 Million every year.... For doing NOTHING additional.
Private jets are expensive machines to operate, but they save companies an incredible amount of time. I doubt any of you would say "sure, borrow my jet that costs $15,000/hour to operate and never pay me back, my salary of $1 will cover it".
There are many advantages for Apple to rent instead of own the plane. Think of the insurance premium on a Lear jet. The yearly operating costs of a jet are way over 1.2 million, so its cheaper for apple to rent it. Since its steve's jet, they still get to use it whenever they want.
If you are unconvinced that it is more effective to rent a jet than own a jet, do a google search on NetJets or Executive Jets.
So, its probably not "steve jobs" who owns the plane, but a company owned by Steve Jobs. And apple rents the plane from that company for a fair price. And I'm sure that Apple doesn't stiff Pixar everytime we have a cool new animated Mac commercial. Nobody seems to be whining about that....
Spam is theft. Theft of Bandwidth, theft of service and theft of time. It's that simple. Spammers are thieves. ISPs which support spammers are thieves.
Spammers are not thieves. Under your logic, the weekly coupons your supermarket sends out snail mail would make your supermarket thieves. When in reality, it is those "junk mail" advertisements that are keeping the postal service alive. While spammers certainly are not keeping ISP's alive, grow up a little bit. We live in a capitalist/consumerist world. Advertisements go hand in hand with capitalism and free markets. Just be thankful that with computers you can filter the through all the static. You can't filter out billboards, newspaper ads, loudspeakers, etc. etc. etc. -
Yes, they are geo-sync satellites. At least for the current crop of offerings (direcway from directv and starband).
They broadcast the data from the same satellites they broadcast TV from, which are all in geosync orbit.
Low pingtimes are not only crappy for games, but for downloading image + ad heavy web pages. Each image results in a seperate request. So it basically like a 56k modem for surfing. But downloads fly, with burst speeds that are really high(i don't remember the number, but its like 2000K/sec)
light on the details....

I wonder if it will just calculate angle shots, or if it considers more complex shots like ones involving English or combo-shot situations in 9 ball.
Sounds like a good tutoring system nonetheless, but I also wonder how dependent a person will be on the laser lines. Kind of like a sniper without a scope, probably.
at this price point, shouldn't people be thinking about adding additional processors, instead of overclocking 1 processor? That seems like the better path to follow from a price, performance, and stability standpoint.
Well, lets think for a second that maybe not EVERYBODY in the world has your wonderful vision.
In fact, many people with handicaps are prevented from using computers because they can't distinguish the shapes on the screen. Intensive magnification of the screen contents allows these people to use computers effectively.
The zooming is actually magnification of the screen, I think the really nifty part that they were trying to show was the real time zooming on a DVD image with no slowdown of the dvd frame rate. ( I believe they were pausing the dvd here and there, I could be wrong)
I know that the whole anti-M$ thing bodes for mozilla, but comeon, IE is by far the better browser in terms of compatibility with the majority of websites. Mozilla is just not being developed fast enough.
I believe that when Hiro gets "gargoyle-ized" the metaverse is projected into his eye, so he can still see the street he is walking down. But thats more like 2/3's of the way in.
Not only is your DB tiny, but mySQL isn't a true transactional database. It actually has very limited support for transactions(commit full-rollback?) It wouldn't even be considered for mission critical data.
The companies the poster is asking about need far more support than mySQL can offer them. It may be great for serving web pages, since in your case and most other cases the data is static and actually comes from another source.
It is an Aqua like theme for Xfree86(not to be confused with x86 chip architecture) which enables Macs running OSX to run UNIX applications in the Xwindows environment. This theme just makes them look like Aqua Apps.
IIRC, rootless mode makes these apps appear within the Desktop; i.e. no switching between the Xwindows desktop and the OSX desktop.
is that an accredited research institution?
google doesn't seem to think there is a "University of Los Angeles"
you are forgetting the /. mentality:
"i want everything for nothing and i want it immediately"
Is it just me...
Or is this just IRC with a pretty GUI, integrated shoutcast and a channel limit of 10?
eBay just bought a Lear Jet back in July.
Lets compare Apple to eBay:
Apple - a world wide company with offices, manufacturers, suppliers, and facilities scattered through out the world.
eBay - A company built from a script a guy wrote to sell Pez dispensers, ie a building with a bunch of servers and programmers.

The funny thing is that your kind is outnumbered 100 to 1. 99% of the graphics population find would find GIMP counter-intuitive.

You are a dork.

well, it doesn't look like you care either, so you have just proved my point.

LSD was discovered in the 1930's in Switzerland. Unless the Berkeley you are referring to is NOT the University of California.

What a POORLY written article
Actually, the dark, thick, rich beers would work better, since they all have MORE carbs.

It is a little confusing. The correct naming method is this:
Mac OS Ten point One.
using the X would result in Mac OS X.1
Maybe that's because he's tired of everyone asking him the same questions every time he gets interviewed.
Boring questions get boring answers.
yes, but the the TITLE of the news post CLEARLY reads "GASOLINE".
