This appears to be the company doing the research, they're based in Victoria but the UNSW logo appears at the end of the video: http://bionicvision.org.au/eye (They also say they're on track for starting human tests in 2013)
OS/2 is still widely used in banks. Releasing it as open source could be seen as allowing the code to be dissected, possibly uncovering new security exploits.
The thing about all the different cars, cellphones, etc out there is that they still work in a similar way to each other.
The cellphones that don't have buttons laid out in familiar ways (eg the Nokia that had all the buttons in a circle like a dial, etc) never become mainstream, even if they may be better than the others.
Similarly, if you got into a car and instead of the ignition key there was a touchscreen on the dashboard, and the gears were shortcut keys built into the back of the steering wheel, then even tho this may be more efficient than the mechanical interface we're used to, it would be difficult to catch on.
In short: - Any mac user can navigate their way around any other Mac desktop with ease. - Any Windows user can navigate their way around any other Windows desktop with ease. - The boon and curse of Linux is how configurable the interface is, and hence how different 2 desktops can be from each other.
(Unless you're the girl from Jurassic Park who can recognise "Unix" from a 3D file explorer).
heehee that's just what i was thinking - scary to think it's been 20 years since the movie. Actually, weren't those machines bug/catepillar killers in the film?
Leader from country A has argument with leader from country B. All the people from country B get punished by having their toys taken away. Leader from country B doesn't care.
The only consequence is that country B's inhabitants are pissed off, because some argument their country's leader had with another country's leader, led to their toys getting confiscated.
My FM transmitter broadcasts on 88.2-88.9. Driving between midlands and London, in the UK this is Radio 2's regional frequency range, so throughout the journey Radio 2 kept kicking in and forcing me to change the FM transmitter's frequency and adjust the car radio.
One way to fix this is to detach the aerial from the roof of your car, it should still receive your FM transmitter's signal but not get interference from FM radio stations.
After sacrificing hi-def, do the math : - 640x480 -> 1080x780 = approx 3 times the pixels on screen. - Which means approx 3 times the detail needed to be processed for a 1080 picture, the same quality as a 640 one. - Suddenly 2.5x cube vs 10-20x xbox/ps2 (divide by 3) doesn't seem as radical, since you're compensating with a lower resolution. - Or we could stop getting religious over numbers, and go back to believing our eyes instead;)
Back to the Future was set in 1985, at the end of the first / beginning of the second movie he travels 30 years into the future, and voila - in 2015 the cars use waste as fuel.
In his weblog, Shawn Burke mentions "And with well over half a million lines of code, there is just no way we'll be able to get this done."
Surely they could make a comment viewing/editing tool within a couple of hours that displays all comments & allows you to delete or edit them individually before putting them all back into the code? Then it's just a matter of getting a college student who wants some extra cash to sit for a couple of days going through them all.
agreed - I was about 2 suggest that! Think the votes should change to a thumbs-up or thumbs-down for each picture, and all the overall thumbs-up's go into the final product (unless there's so many it makes for noticeably bigger download size of course).

I'm prepared to pretend the movie never happened if it mean more episodes. Who's with me?!
As much as I loved the series I'm awfully tempted to say let sleeping dogs lie. That one season's worth is a work of art
^ What he said.
Does it play Kate Bush's "Cloudbusting" backwards?
Erm... Mario Kart Wii supports the gamecube controller.
So if they were playing Goldeneye Rogue Agent they'd have enjoyed it even more?

Perhaps this law is actually being wavered to allow him into the country again.

Next, a robot that cooks spaghetti please...
If they could get Sonic CD emulated on a cube/ps2, i have a feeling they can get any Sega CD game running on anything if they wanted.
> saying that no virus has never spread on Linux is simply not true.
:P
That's because you used a triple negative just to confuse everyone

You can use a cube controller for most stuff, but classic controller only works with virtual console games not cube games.

...and connected it to an ipod? This could be the mother of all visualisations :)

yea that was my first thought too. Wonder if time went mad after that...
"YOUR SYSTEM has become busy or unstable."
"THIS APPLICATION has stopped responding."
"Because Windows WAS NOT SHUT DOWN correctly..."
etc etc etc - never once have i seen it admit "Sorry, but Windows just crashed."
So no surprise to see that once again, the blame is on the user and/or the applications installed.
Has anyone hacked or emulated the turing machine, or the enigma device? Does linux compile on it yet? :)
Ever tried playing deathmatch against a llama? You'll see why they're such good gamers, every games veteran has a lot of respect for them.
Makes u wonder how long the PSP will stay charged with PS1-PS2 processor, 3D graphics, and a cd drive...
So this is like the Ego Trips that people go on in Total Recall?
I wonder if something can go wrong 1/2way between the dream state & awake state, like in that movie...
