    Other than the facial recognition and text interface, the Amazon Echo pretty much does a great job of integrating all your smart home devices.

    If you don't enjoy programming or technology, go find something else you are interested in. All the good programmers and IT people I've met have enjoyed what they do. The ones that don't are usually dragging down the rest of the team.

    That seemed weird to me too. Not sure why dehydrated meats wouldn't last two years. If anything, you could at least have meat dishes on the way there and vegetarian on the way back.

    Paparazzi can sell pictures of celebrities as press/news photos, which is allowed, but if they use those photos for commercial purposes (like advertising campaigns), they will get sued if they don't have a model release.

    It doesn't save much money to do close up shots. Each frame still gets animated and rendered with the same models. It's really the director deciding how the action proceeds.

    That's one of my biggest annoyances with action movies. Many directors like the close up fighting sequences for some reason. The second Bourne movie in particular doing this (along with the purposeful shaky-cam) made the fighting suck.

    Sure, using some bogus info for billing address works fine if you have an alternate shipping address...but (for buying items that aren't download-only) how do you expect the merchant to ship it to you if they don't have your real address?

    The solution I went with was to get a bluetooth cell phone (and voice service ... blah) and use the phone as a modem. Works pretty well, though I wish there was a card for it. Of course the verizon morons at the store don't really know what they are selling, so they also had me buy the stupid USB wire to the phone (that doesn't even charge the battery!) that doesn't because, according to them, you can't share the data connection over bluetooth (but you can!).

    You're lucky that you have one of the non-crippled phones. Most of the verizon phones have the bluetooth crippled so that you can't use it as a modem.

    Goulet said that setting up a TCP/IP connection capability with PostgreSQL is hardly an intuitive process. To do it, he says, one needs to modify the postgres.conf and pg_hba.conf files manually.

    Uhh...is editing a config file really that difficult a process? It's like two lines.

    I just set this up the other day so I could listen to local sports broadcasts when out of town.

    I bought a USB Radioshark, set it up under Linux, and used Icecast with Liveice to setup realtime streaming.

    I then setup a cgi to change stations. Works like a charm.

    That's actually true...remember the movie "Heat" they starred in together? All done with mirrors, I swear.

    You're close. They actually shot the scenes of the two actors separately. In no shot did they have them both together.

    I do. Photoshop works better with a wacom tablet.

    The mac mini doesn't come with a lcd monitor either, nor does it come with a keyboard or mouse. You should deduct $185 from the price.

    I don't have one of the swiss memorys, but I have it's predecessor (everything except the memory). The tools are crappy (I have a leatherman for that), but having an emergency pen in it is the most useful thing for me.

    The contract stated that sequels didn't count towards the five picture total. Pixar was upset about that, and was one of the factors in wanting to break away.

    Bluetooth is much less power hungry than wifi. Using wifi for a simple link from my laptop to my cellphone (if it was possible), would totally kill the battery life of the phone.

    I'd also add to your statement that you are an idiot if you buy a camera that doesn't take standard AA (or AAA) batteries. We also have several sets of NI-MH batts and chargers -- I refuse to buy a digicam with propriety batteries. I can't count how much money and aggravation the standard formats of CF and AA NI-MH batts have saved me -- both on a business and personal level.

    None of the high end digital SLR cameras use NiMH batteries. Regular NiMH batteries run out of juice way too quickly. Using the Canon lithium ion packs you can get hundreds of shots with 1 battery. Also, unlike NiMH, lithiums don't lose like 10% of their charge daily.

    I use an external firewire chassis and put an IDE hard drive pullout tray in it. That way, whenever I need to swap in a new drive, I just power down the firewire enclosure, swap drives, and power it back up.

    Cut and paste between 2 computers is easy...I do it all day long.

    Use x2x (2 unix), x2vnc (1 unix, 1 win), or synergy.
