I've seen Idiocracy 2 or 3 times and I think it's okay, but it's not some great social mirror. I have a nagging feeling that Darwinism doesn't want humanity to be intelligent, it just wants us to survive. Also since the movie assumes that we are getting less intelligent, past generations must have been MORE intelligent that what we are today. I don't believe that (though we'll never really know).

I've decided to teach a local community college class about spyware/adware prevention and removal. Some would think that I'm giving away my business secrets on how to clean out computers, but I've found that even though I teach my clients how to be safe, they invariably end up with the same problems 2 months later and want me to help them again. I figure that by teaching this one-time class I will spread the word about how to prevent these infections. If anyone else has taught others in a group setting like this, I would like to hear how it went!

but it's in our (Americans) blood to NOT know anything about the rest of the world.

Our ancestors were trying to get the f*** out of Europe and come to a new land were they could start a new life and forget about all the crap they had to put up with in the old world. This mentality has permeated throughout our culture, and I don't see it ending anytime soon.

It sucks that we had to bring slaves with us, and that we had to decimate the Native population. It sucks that Americans are low-ranking in many other school subjects.

But dammit, don't deny us our right to be geographically ignorant!!!

  24. 30fps or 24fps? on Which Digital Video Camera for Amateur Video? · · Score: 4, Informative
Nowadays the main question (if you want to shoot with prosumer cameras) is if you want to shoot at 30 fps interlaced or progressive, or 24fps. For 30fps, I would recommend the Sony PD170 (this is the camera I have). It has 2 XLR inputs, a nice little lcd flip-out screen, and all the manual controls that you would really need. The other 30fps option is the Canon XL1s, which has interchangeable lenses along with a sleek look (hey, it matters!). But, Canon just announced the specs for the XL2 camera, which will record at 24fps and have more of the film-style controls that really helps take the edge out of the "video look". By the time this camera comes out, most NLE will probably support editing on 24fps with a variety of pull-down options (this is the camera I'm waiting on).

The other major 24fps camera is the Panasonic AG-DVX100A, but I've seen a lot of so-so reviews about it.

No matter what you buy, you'll have to buy a underwater casing for it.
