If you read the article he mentions the Black and White thing and admits to having been part of the problem himself in the past, he is proposing a way to fix it though.
In the future it would be sufficient for you to summarize this article, then have the link to it. If I was going to read this I would read it on the link you have provided, there is no reason why you should post the entire text here.
This came close to getting me too. The only problem was that the only floppy drive I still owned was eating the disks. I wound up having to slipstream the drivers into my windows install disk to make it work. This solution of course winds up being much better anyways, as all I have to do now to install Windows XP is put in the cd, choose which drive I want to install on, and then come back 8 minutes later to my installed windows desktop.
I have been in a couple situations where IT could take complete control of the computer, once at a University and at a fairly large company. In both cases IT never once cared if you took some time to read slashdot, play a game demo or anything else anyone wanted to do, as long as it wasn't porn. The people who weren't allowed to do that had stupid bosses who wouldn't let them, IT doesn't really care (except occasionally in the case of playing LAN games that used up too much bandwidth). Fortunately I have had bosses who realized that a happy worker is a more productive worker.
How did you get modded to a 5 for saying that you are an idiot who assumes everyone uses the the same setup as you? Especially when the summary says that they work in a large University in Belgium! Sure it would be nice if everyone in the University were using linux, but there is a better chance that like most schools and large businesses that the majority of the machines are using Windows 2000 / XP and that there are few if any linux machines that IT actually administrates.
When I did work at a University the only linux boxes that were on the network in my building were the IT admin machines, a couple servers and one that a researcher used for running MATLab simulations (the researcher had a deal with the IT team and they never touched his linux box). In any large setting you need to assume that there is going to be a mix of machines and if you can find that a solution that is cross compatible that is the best choice you could possibly go with.
As far as I am concerned slackwares mascot is a slacker, while they may be able to beat up a cow, they would never do it as it is entirely too much effort.
All this idea will do is put more power into the hands of the rich, small inventors will not have the money to risk on a patent in case they are required to pay lawyers huge sums of money in order to defend it. I see one of two things happening, 1. Small guys will find backers to pay for the patent and any lawyers that may turn out to be necessary in exchange for a portion of the profits that are made from the patent. 2. Small guys will just not apply for patents.
While your idea sounds really good on the surface I think there is a good chance if it were implemented it could really stifle innovation.

One more reason to never leave the home without your towel.
You may be missing something depending on your take of betamax, if I remember correctly it is still used for television and the like but I know of no one who actually still has any beta tapes or a beta player.
They will fix it in the same way that they "fixed" the iPod nanos scratchable screen. Tell people not to use it in the manner that they used it before.
I agree completely, the thing I did was not going in to the movie expecting everything to be exactly the same. I did bring a couple friends to see it with me, who had never read the books, they said they liked it after seeing it. A few days later they were telling me that they loved it after it had sunk in. Now they have my copy of the DVD and won't give it back.
If I could get a discount on my next server just by sending an email that says lets use linux, I would be slightly more ok with them reading parts of my emails.
With the very low cost to store a copy of a game on a hard drive, have a backup and even if you wanted have a backup of the backup. This is going to cost you very little money to store. However, take a look at brick-and-mortar stores where the boxes for the game actually does contain space and you actually have either sell it or get rid of it to make way for new games. The cheapest option for the brick-and-mortar is mostly likely to move the game to the bargain bin and hope it sells.
From what I understand it is no longer illegal for Americans to surveil Americans, at least for email. What the Americans and the Birtish arrangement is I don't care, because Canadians are not British and their laws do not apply to us.
I am wondering if the people doing the surveilance will care about stopping at their own borders. Sure it is probably ok if they read an email that I send to one of my friends or co-workers in the states, well aside from the co-workers as that sometimes contains confidential information, but are they going to stop at reading the email that I send here in Canada. With what I have seen so far there does not seem to be anything stopping them and with the technical knowledge that most of the people making decisions seem to have they could easily argue something that would enable them to get away with reading the email that everyone in the world sends. If the American laws state that it is ok for them to read emails, sure it is just read sender and recipient right now, I have no problem with them doing it as long as they are only reading emails send to or received by Americans, in America.
If you silly Americans allow this to become a law, you will have to find someway to fight it. Unfortunately those of us in other countries may suffer at first, until either companies like google leave the states or we just start providing our own services. If this becomes law and you Americans do not fight it you will just be hurting your own country as either business leave or other countries stop relying on you entirely.
I have taken apart many a dead hard drive, and the platter is definately lighter than the magnets, which I would for sure rate as the heaviest part of the drive.
What do you mean, maybe they pressed the gas pedal and liked it. Of course they pressed the gas pedal and liked it. The only person I know who doesn't like it when he goes fast is my 91 year old Grandpa. Now this isn't to say we all race, but it is to say that most people like to drive fast because it gives them a thrill.
Apparently all you needed to do to make a article, is choose the biggest things that happened in the industry, pick a couple flaws, post the article and watch the site hits climb.

You seemed to have forgotten about most online games, its almost a sure thing that you will meet an asshole on any game server.

If anyone was wondering why Jack Thompson has reason to do what he does, read the parent again.
