I went to a Canadian Post-secondary institute where we where taught how to design and build a micro-controller (we used the HC6811). Since that point in time seen any jobs advertised where I could get a job doing micro-controller design, to be fair I haven't looked specifically for that though. I got my current job through word of mouth and we may be doing some micro work coming up for a project. The one reason I really liked our micro courses where that instead of being told that all pieces are accessed through addresses we actually figured out the entire memory space then wired everything. Another great thing that at least I took away from the course is that code bloat is not good no matter what you are working on, whether it be a device with a total RAM of 1K, 32MB (which I currently am working the most with) or 4GB it is better to have code that is a small as it can be. What I am trying to say is that if you are looking at the possibility of removing the course try to replace it with a course that can still teach at least the principles that I mentioned as I have found them to be extremely useful.
That is the solution for certain applications, in other applications another methodology, recommended by Palm, is to have the handheld take input from the user and pass that data off to a server where it will be processed and can be used later by the user or their supervisor. In lieu of a server you can sync the data with a PC later and have the PC do most of the grunt work, these are good ways to keep the handheld doing what it is meant to do.
If you're a bad VB programmer, switching to C# isn't going to make you a better one.
I don't think he meant to say that he is a bad VB programmer, I'm pretty sure that he meant to say that he isn't as good at programming in VB and would like to switch to a language that he knows a lot better. Although you should be able to move good programming techniques from languages that you are good at to other languages, I've found that whenever I go find the code that I've written while being new to a language its messy and nowhere near as good as the stuff after I've been using that language for awhile.
Comparing a handheld device to a computer with a X2 4400+ and 2GB of RAM is like comparing a Tractor rig capabale of pulling two or even three trailers to a Ford Festiva. Sure they both can do similar things, move something from one place to another, but the tractor trailer rig can move a hell of a lot more than a Swift can. Both things have their purpose but you need to identify the purpose of each one and develop the application for each with that in mind.
Do you think we should all still be writing C++ to-the-metal in Visual Studio 6.0 on Windows 98?
To answer your exact question NO. However, I do think we should all be writing C++ to-the-metal in the editor of your choice to run on Windows XP / Server 2003 / Vista. Sure the overhead your talking about isn't much but why waste the hardware on overhead when you can take full advantage of it.
At least it isn't another article about the Wii / PS3 although I like occasional news on the systems it seems that almost every thread on every news section has something about either one in it and that is starting to get old.
I would guess that Microsoft implements the same thing they did on the last XBOX, if a mod is detected that XBOX is no longer allowed on Live. Then you get alternatives to live and people have to decide if they want to use live or something else. There wouldn't be something that requires a check everytime you change a disc just everytime you connect to live, I would guess you would need to block the connection to live for a mod to work for the 360.
are you actually serious with that question? Of course it will be Palm OS running on it, the w on 700w is indicative of windows and the p is indicative of 700 palm. The only dissappointment is that it will not be Palm OS 6 which to all rumors will never come out now, as the next OS released for Palm devices is going to be Palm ACCESS Linux.
With the new online consoles they should release the next line of Sports games updates with the ability to have the rosters for new years downloaded. I bet they could even sell them for less than $10 and make way more profit this way than through developing a whole new game and all the costs associated with that. Will they do this, probably not, but it would I hope they do as it would free up some of their developers to create better games.
I had to undo my moderation for this topic because I need to find out if you have been under a rock for the past few months or just don't pay attention to anything that has the word Nintendo in it. They have this product that is now called the Wii which is their planned "Revolution" with which they plan on make a massive change to the way that games are being played, this is the next generation plan from Nintendo. It would make sense that they wouldn't change their current business model too much, as it has worked for them for years. They have consistently made profits and if I remember correctly they haven't sold consoles at a loss (I could be wrong on that though).
I've spent years trying to convince my Mom and a couple of her friends that the tower is not the CPU, I've mostly given up but I still cringe when I hear it. To them it doesn't matter that the CPU is a piece inside of the tower, what does matter is that it is the central processing unit. It even makes sense why they think that, all of the wires go to it, you plug in the input devices and the output devices, your inputs are sent to the central processing unit where they are processed and the outputs are sent to the output devices.
However, if done properly a college degree == networking which as the OP pointed out is a very nice way of getting a job. Both of the jobs I have worked at since leaving college came out of networking I did during college, plus I had a shitload of fun and made a few friends in the process.
The part of the story that makes it interesting isn't the main points, you can take any great story and sum it up in a couple of paragraphs that contain the more intricate plot points. What makes a story great is how it happens and unfolds, this includes the little details. Would you call the original Half Life a good game if all you did was find out that aliens showed up, you went to their world then you fought the boss of the soldiers attacking you and finished up with killing the large Alien at the end? No that would be at the most 30 minutes of game play it takes these points, which I've probably messed up a bit, and everything in between to make the game and story great.
Telus, a large Canadian ISP, does this too. I got a message from my Mom one day saying that her internet had been turned off and she needed me to come fix her computer as soon as possible. I was glad that Telus was responsible enough to turn off the connection yet mad because my Mom hadn't been using the virus and spyware scanners that I had put on her computer. Now they are all set to autorun on a regular basis, and she hasn't had a problem since.
Sounds to me like you might need to upgrade to quality shielded audio equipment, just that the speakers are really expensive does not mean that they are right for the stage. It is too much to ask for everyone at your shows to be turning off all pagers, cell phones and electronic devices, most people use these for convienence but some people are required to be reachable, whether they be building managers, doctors or anyone else who is on call but still wants to come watch the show and enjoy the music.
Out of curiosity exactly how bad is it during a show if you do not make an announcement, and have you done tests with the equipment on and walking around with a cellphone or two to find out if it is just some cabling that might need to be replaced with a better shielded cable.
My Treo 650 only causes problems with the speakers but never my monitors. Of course if you are using a program for automatic email delivery or the sort of always on data connection type stuff then you get this buzz everytime the phone decides to check for new mail. Depending on which network you are with you will receive push data from your always connect programs at least every 15 minutes, as most of the time your phone isn't connected directly to the internet and is not accessible by straight IP and a few packets must be transmitted to keep your connection alive.
Any politician using them must immediately resign and pay me an amount of money equal to all of the money they will ever earn (and have earned) in their entire lifetime, plus one Mexican peso.
The Mexican peso would be included in all of the money they will ever earn in their lifetime. This is an interesting plan as the politician will forever be stuck in a loop getting you one more Mexican peso. Everytime the bring you what they think is the last peso you tell them now you have earned one more peso and that to fill their obligation they must bring you one Mexican peso.
You don't notice a larger screen when you are playing games? Are you still playing MUDs and text adventures, hell even there you would probably notice the larger screen. But I notice the difference in size while playing games, I play on a 17" at work for maybe 30 minutes a day and a 19" at home, there is a huge difference. As for working, if you are writing code the more you can see at a time the better, whether you are doing research for something and have the research so that you can view it or if you are debugging and you can see both the code that is running and the program you are debugging at the same time the productivity is much improved over the constant alt-tabing or finding the programs in the task bar. This doesn't sound like it would save a lot of time but try it sometime and as soon as you actually have more screen real estate you will never go back.
So you are the one that I can sue about the trace amounts of Dihydrogen Monoxide in all of our streams, lakes, rivers and the dihydrogen monoxide that falls on my head. I have finally found you and you are going to pay.

really, cause I have always wanted to drop an anvil or piano on someones head.

You wanted to spare a possible Simpsons reference??? You need to tear up your geek card immediately.
The Darth Vader mask may have been your problem...

An edit could be implemented but they probably won't allow Anonymous Coward to edit anyways so your still screwed if they allow edit.
