"The Dual 1.8GHz G5 configuration was rumored back in July to shift demand away from the popular 2.0GHz PowerPC G5s."
Aside from a dual 3 Ghz G5, How could you possibly hope to divert attention away from a dual 2.0 Ghz G5? It's like diverting a lava flow!
"The stereotype that virus writers are all young teenage boys with no social life, hiding in their basement is not accurate"
It is quite normal for teenage boys with no social life(something they have no control over) to hide in their basement. I believe it was Linus Torvalds who said that we could alll breathe easier if all these poor people could just get some dates. (someone will probably redirect this to the NYT magazine interview)
It's amazing how modern technology can make shopping carts talk but can't fix the one screwed up or non-functional wheel. Can they at least make them not run into cars first?
To me, $299 US is a huge chunk of change for something that small that only plays music.
Yes, USD 300 to 500 does seem a lot to pay for that. But you said "something that small". That's really the point. You certainly wouldn't want to have a huge iPod that just plays music. You're paying so much because you don't have to lug around Compact Disks with you. It's because it's small that it's so expensive.
"The real one has survived a lot more than Mach 5"
What "real" one? Are you referring to the orbiter named enterprise? Considering they never actually launched that into space (they just use it for atmospheric tests), I don't think even that ever got up to mach 5.
The other solution to all this is even simpler- just don't use internet explorer! There are several great browsers out there for MacOSX, and most of them are pretty good. If you can't get safari, get camino.
So do I, but there is always a possibility that someone has written spyware for it. Just because Linux and MacOS have a low market share doesn't mean nobody's interested in knowing what mac and linux users are doing and sell stuff to them.

Tablet PCs? been there, done that. http://www.theapplemuseum.com/index.php?id=tam&pag e=pda
although its functions were more similar to a PDA, the Newton's goals were much the same as today's tablet PCs. But look what happened to them: they failed in the long run. Maybe the tablet PC will carry the legacy of the ahead-of-its-time newton. It will fail, but will eventually lead to a significant product that will become mainstream tech culture.
I'd use the HTML link, but.....
I think you're right, mandatory RFID tags should not be the case. But the article said that this is a charter school (in the US they call them private schools, I think). So the parents did kind of make the decision. What really worries me is the strong possibility that the state-funded schools will start using this technology.
It's not keeping track of them in school that's bad, it's the possibility that the children will be tracked outside of school (and they are, reference the bus transmitters) that worries people. Stalkers, drug dealers, or even worse people (RIAA/MPAA?) could potentially track them.
"Lastly, if you use Apple's music store along with iTunes, you don't have the ability of using the over 40 different Windows Media-compatible portable music devices."
Sure you do. using apple's iTunes does not automatically bar you from using other devices. People use Windows media because their player supports it, not the other way around.
While we're on the subject of grocery shopping, what effects will this have on the use of RFID tags? These carts already have built-in barcode scanners; would it be easier to have embedded radio devices in the food?
How is this Peer to Peer if students can't send data to each other? Because only profs can post data on the network, it is more like a master-to-serf transaction.
I *really* don't think one per year is a reasonable upgrade rate. I upgrade my mac every 2 years or so and it works fine for me. Of course, Microsoft's idea that OSes "die" after a few years isn't a particularly good one either. So if you want to get support for your win98 box, too bad. Just about every time you see a patch or something microsoft "urges" you to get their new spiffy OS. Check it out:

The Hunt for Red October is on! Now it uses a caterpillar drive to cool its computers, too. Prepare to be Ownzed in HarpoonIII, Connery!
Nice pillows, but do they provide proper neck and upper back support?

Unfortunately, Apple's advertising campaign for this really depends on the price being under $1 US, so it may be unavalible in Canada for a while.
"Natalie Portman pics can it download in a second?" Never enough. I don't care how fast it is.
Yessss! Never again will I be fragged or kicked off the BF1942 servers because of high ping!
