No EA? I thought I heard something about them making lots of money and needing more game developers.

  3. Documentation on Take-Two to Publish Next Civilization Game · · Score: 4, Insightful

World of Warcraft allows users to make their own UI mods and addons using a combination of XML and LUA. The only problem (not blaming Blizz because they don't "offically support" it) is good and complete documentation is pretty much impossible to find.

There are plently of places with fragmented documentation but it's still a lot of trial and error/guessing. It also seems mod developers who started in the begining of the beta do not want to share their knowledge.

My advice to Take-Two is this: If you are going to talk it up make sure you document the damn thing.

" if that stops, we get stuck with nothing but incremental sequels to racing games, sports franchises, and the army men series."

I thought we already were. New creative games are becoming far and few between. It's sad but soon enough the "mainstream" game industry will be the same as Hollywood cranking out the same crap over and over again. Once and awhile there will be something new, but for the most part anything genuinely new will be from (or at least I hope) small independent game companies showing their thing at indie-game festivals.

"I also think Blizzard should be applauded for not shipping new copies of the game until the servers are stabilized."

No they shouldn't. Not only have they not been shipping new copies they have been forcing retailers to sit on the copies they have. Also it's not their concern for their current customers - it's PR damage control.

Not surprising Blizzard has "stopped production" and told retailers to hold the games. It's damage control. They have already pissed off 500k people and want to make sure they have noobs to replace all the players who will jump ship as soon as the next game comes out.
