Of course, I'm not endorsing this product. Haven't used it myself since I stopped using Windows a year and a half ago (and I use iTunes now when I'm forced to).
I know I've been playing too much Puzzle Pirates (which, by the way, has both a subscription model and a 'free' way to play the game) when I automatically assume that's what you were talking about.
At Waterloo, where he's coming tomorrow, security is going to be very tight. They've even got metal detectors for the entrances. Only those with invites (they will be checking IDs) are permitted inside.
One of my friends had wanted to get in - I was going to lend him my Google shirt just to see what the reaction was. Unfortunately, invites were limited and he didn't get invited.
I do exaggerate when I say two years. But last term, just about all of the books I needed were new editions (one had yet to even arrive at the bookstore for the first week of class). Additionally, not everyone is willing to part with their books after taking a course (my dad for example still has ALL of his textbooks from university)
Waterloo actually has a far lower turnover than other universities.
You've probably never been to a university bookstore recently. I've had to spend more than $500 each term on textbooks. I could easily get some kind of handheld for that price.
I tried (unsuccessfully) to buy used textbooks, but the practice of publishers in recent years to issue a new edition every two years makes that impossible.
I'm in Toronto, and I can get the weather. What irks me though is the fact that the temperatures default to Fahrenheit. The current temperature also has a Celcius value (but it's secondary) and all the long term forecasts are in Fahrenheit. There is no option to change everything to Celcius. I was only taught Celcius in school, and was led to believe that Fahrenheit was left on the thermometers to appease the old-timers.
This is the 21st century, people! Let's start using those SI units that everybody* has agreed on.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly drowned out by the noise.
According to the latest EFF announcement, the campaign was in place to prevent the ammendment from being proposed - in other words, the EFF campaign is working.
I'm a co-op student. In less than three months, I will have moved out of this smog-hole of a city and be back at university, never to return to that particular address again. My email, hopefully, will persist.
No wonder I can't even get to my own website (on the same server) today. As I recall, the web hosting policies for the Engineering faculty recommend that if you're going to get a lot of page hits, to move your site elsewhere.
I knew someone who got into a kiddie pool with his iPod still on himself. He simply sent it back to Apple who fixed/replaced it and EXPRESS shipped it back to him for free. No questions asked, even though it was his own fault.
Now why couldn't our exploding friend do the same?
Not so... the site is from the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency, which is an organization of Canadian writers and publishers, not the government.

That kind of car would be perfect for the bumper sticker I have: "Lost your cat? Try looking under my tires"
I noticed that this and the following couple of stories have no comments. Is something broken, or am I the only one on /.?
It's not working on the Windows version Firefox either. I even tried IE *shudders* No luck.
The patent office is in fact asking if it's OK if they only support IE for the time being. All I can say is, I'm glad it's not my government doing this.
If the server were on the shuttle, the heat shield may require even more scrutiny before it could be allowed to withstand the /.ing

In America, only old people use e-mail.

Careful. You are treading on Goodwin's Law.
Cheap in price, or cheap in quality?
I guess I should have waited a month to buy my new iPod. Oh well. Color screens suck the life out of batteries anyways.
If they distribute this GPL'd software, that means that they won't be suing the developers for misappropriating their IP, right?
Oh dear
Microsoft is affirming that Linux and Unix are more secure than Windows and don't require anti-virus software!

First 1000? It said I was in the first 5000, and because of that, I got a T-shirt.
Nice guys too. All they asked for was my mailing address - NO EMAIL address required!
