True, RIAA/MPAA are after people who are sharing the music/movies. But if they are fine everyone who is downloading movies/music $5 per month, that leaves no reason to fine the people uploading music.

It would be interesting if there was a small tax per month charged by an ISP that would legalize all "illegal" music downloads. Ofcourse, this assumes you delete the music as soon as you stop paying this tax, and never give it to anyone else who isnt paying this tax.

Its not that simple. The problem is how do you define a "definite boundary"? And even if you do what you suggested, you are likely to get rather flat shaded images. What these folks do is really solve an optimization problem and try to make use of the fact that neighboring pixels of similar intensity would have similar color. It is kind of like a fancy flood-fill algorithm, but applied to a new area, and thats what makes this novel!

Yes, I am in the US, and I continue to stick with what I said. SIM cards are a requirement for GSM, and this is the reason why you can eaily switch between providers and phone morels on GSM. Not so on TDMA (the old AT&T system that still has many, many subscribers), or CDMS (sprint).

Dude, all GSM phones need a SIM card to identify themselves to the network. There is no way a GSM phone can work without one. As another poster posted, there are probably very few (maybe just one or two) phones that have SIM cards non-replacable by the user. But even these phones do infact have sim cards!

Your friends probably use phones that work on CDMA/TDMA.

Wrong. ALL GSM phones use SIM cards. And since this upgrade is only for GSM phones operating at 1900MHz, all affected phones use SIM cards.

Then it was slashdot, which again linked to thinksecret. Then it was macrumors again, which said that it had more sources (they did not disclose them). And then some London newspapers picked up the rumors, and posted them as such. This becomes news on macrumors.com again (see page 2). And now we are back on slasldot.

I am not denying Qt licensing issues. They are real. And since KDE is based on Qt, it goes against them.

The point I wanted to make was why the KDE team was so concerned about not being included in UserLinux. If Userlinux is ever to become as popular as they hope it would (and it does not include KDE), it would be a big loss for KDE.

Its probably because the Pentium 4 needs to be more generic. It needs to support a far greater number of instructions.

A GPU on the other hand can do only so much. But its strength lies in areas where the CPU lags. Fast memory interfacing, extreme parallelization etc.

Now there exist cmoputing problems that can be solved very efficiently on the GPU, even with its limited instruction set. This is what this project is all about - to provide a generic programming language that compiles to a vertex/pixel shader that runs on the GPU, but does non-graphics tasks. awesome!

UserLinux is targeted at the enterprise community. It probably (and hopefuly) be used by non-geeky types who simply use what is installed on their computers. You can see KDE go the same way as netscape if UserLinux ever becomes popular.

I am not sure what the right approach would be though. It makes sense for an OS to have a consistent "face" to a non-techie user. Though choice is great (and it is the reason why I use linux), it can be a hinderance for someone who is not inclined to try out 5 different window managers before she decides which one to use!!

Its interesting that you mention the "dog get run over by a car" analogy. No I am not someone who would like blood spewing everywhere. I am not a sadist.
The reason why I really liked Kill Bill was not because of the story (I agree there was none), or the "intense" violence. It was because of the great use of colors, the music, the amazing camera work, the editing, and a director why made use of almost every known technique in movie making!
The blood and gore that you mention was disturbing at first, but after a while it seemed almost funny and exagerated. One you can notice is that nowhere are intense emotions/facial expressions shown when someones arm/leg is cut off. That is what would have made the movie gross in my opinion.
Anyways, its one of those movies I cant really explain why I liked so much. But looking at imdb ratings for the movie, it is clear that I am not alone.

btw, if you really want an intense movie to watch, try Requiem for a Dream - I would say that is a more disturbing movie without a drop of blood.

Kill Bill was perhaps the first movie that made me want to see it again even before I had left the movie hall. Amazing direction, camera work, and the anime was icing on the cake.

21 grams was a nice first english movie by a non-english speaking director. It seemed to lose itself towards the end, but had a nice overal effect.

ROTK would have to come close, but read here why I would not call it the best.
