Do yourself a favour; find a template you like, make sure its got the appropriate license and use that. It will save you a lot of time and effort. You sound like you have enough on already!
You know, when you say "$499 for an iPod Touch" it sounds like a lot, but then you realize: manufacturers are charging twice that for 32GB flash hard drives.
Rubbish. Even in "Rip-Off Britain" I can get a 32Gb flash drive for £75 (approx. $150).
If Microsoft are so stupid as to think they can beat Google by offering up LESS search results than their main competitor, that's GOOD news for Google/Linux/Apache et al.
I don't own a XBox Hard Drive you insensitive clod!
But seriously... I can only assume (yes I know what that makes me) it will be a download, so anyone without a hard drive won't get anything. Except a little more leverage to buy a vastly overpriced hard drive. £130 for 120Gb? Puh-leez...
If the Open Handset Alliance is giving it all away for free, how will the platform be differentiated?
Because the Apache license does not have a copyleft clause, industry players can add proprietary functionality to their products based on Android without needing to contribute anything back to the platform. As the entire platform is open, companies can remove functionality if they choose. Applications are not set in stone, and differentiation is always possible. For example, if you want to include Hotmail instead of Gmail, it will not be an issue.
I saw the news about this a while back before it was released. However I was recently bought a laptop by my sister for £300 from Tescos here in the UK. Its a Gateway ML3108b and runs Linux just fine (although the soundcard doesn't seem to work). When you look at the price of fully fledged laptops now, this doesn't seem much of a deal.
(Of course there are many assumptions and guesses here - I don't think this is a serious economic prediction. But it does show the general idea.)
You got that right. From TFA;
Then Microsoft got serious about competing on price by offering the Chinese government its Windows and Office software for an estimated $7-$10 per seat (in comparison to $100-$200 per seat in the U.S., Europe, and other countries).
and
Plus, Microsoft has made it easy for Chinese users to purchase legal copies by offering a $3 Windows/Office bundle to Chinese students.
Furthermore, being rated non-critical can often mean that it requires significant user action (like turning off multiple security features) in order to make a user vulnerable.
Like turning the security features off because they are invasive and annoying? Not heard of anyone doing that in Vista.
It amazes me that people are claiming Vista is secure. No one is even using it yet! Wait till its got 50% market share, and its worthwhile attacking. Then we'll see how secure it is. Talk about security through obscurity...
Is it just me or does Feisty seem noticeably quicker than Edgy? OK, my Edgy was getting a little bloated which is one of the reasons I updated to Feisty, but is seems to boot a lot quicker and my Desktop seems to be up in seconds after logging in from GDM.
This is the fundamental flaw[2] with open source software. It is very easy to go off in a different direction.
This is the fundamental flaw in his thinking. That "fundamental flaw" is the very reason Open Source flourishes. No wonder this idiot was laid off. Its much easier writing FUD articles than working a proper job...
That's the whole point of MythTV. Why would you record garbage? Even with only the *four* channels of TV I have available there is enough good content because I am not tied to a schedule.

Try living in "Rip Off" Britain!

Maybe we should coin a new phrase. Rather than "Ambulance Chasers" we could have "YouTube Trawlers"?
Why James Randi of course; because if you really believe in ghosts, you really believe you have a shot at that one million dollars.

Dude, as a Sopranos/Seinfeld fan that is one priceless comment =]

Because they called Linux a "cancer". I think that says all you need to know about Microsoft's attitude.
Maybe the /. crowd thought you assuming everyone had 3Ghz machines was funny?

Seriously, how the hell did this get modded "Insightful"??? Obviously a low
